Jamaica's recovery from hurricane ###

We lift up the nation of Jamaica and its people in this time of recovery after the devastation brought by the hurricane. The Scriptures remind us that our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth, and He is the one who sustains and restores. As it is written in Psalm 46:1-3, *"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling."* Though the winds have raged and the waters have risen, we know that God is sovereign over all creation, and He is able to bring healing, provision, and restoration to this land and its people.

Yet we must also remember that our prayers are only heard and answered when we come before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, and it is only through faith in Him that we have access to the throne of grace. As Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* If there are those in Jamaica—or anywhere—who do not yet know the hope found in Christ, we pray that this trial would turn their hearts toward Him, for He alone is the anchor in every storm.

We pray for the leaders of Jamaica, that God would grant them wisdom, discernment, and integrity as they make decisions for the recovery efforts. May they seek the Lord’s guidance and not lean on their own understanding, but acknowledge Him in all their ways, that He may direct their paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). We ask for protection over the relief workers and volunteers who are laboring to restore homes, infrastructure, and hope to those affected. May the Lord strengthen their hands and guard their steps as they serve with compassion and selflessness.

For those who have lost loved ones, homes, or livelihoods, we pray for comfort that only the Holy Spirit can provide. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). May they find peace in the promise that Jesus Himself has overcome the world (John 16:33), and that even in suffering, His purposes are good. We ask for provision—food, clean water, shelter, and medical care—to reach every person in need. May the body of Christ in Jamaica and around the world rise up to meet these needs with generosity and love, reflecting the heart of our Father who cares for His children.

We also pray for the churches in Jamaica, that they would be beacons of light and hope in this dark time. May pastors and believers be filled with the Holy Spirit, speaking the truth of God’s Word with boldness and demonstrating His love through action. Let them proclaim the Gospel fearlessly, that many would turn to Christ and find eternal hope amid temporal trials. As it is written in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, *"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God."*

Finally, we rebuke the spirit of despair, fear, and hopelessness that may seek to take hold of the people of Jamaica. In the name of Jesus, we declare that this nation will rise again, not by might nor by power, but by the Spirit of the Lord (Zechariah 4:6). We speak life, restoration, and resilience over every community, trusting that God will turn this tragedy into a testimony of His faithfulness.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, interceding for Jamaica. You are the God who parts the seas, calms the storms, and rebuilds what has been broken. We ask that You would pour out Your mercy and grace upon this nation. Provide for every need, heal every wound, and restore what the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25). Raise up Your church to be Your hands and feet, and let Your name be glorified through this recovery. May Jamaica not only be physically restored but spiritually revived, with hearts turned toward You in repentance and faith. We ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
