I've turned away from God again and I want to be right with Him now and forever

Karierton

Disciple of Prayer
Greetings. I was baptized in about February of 2024. Since then, I've backslid and turned from God back to my old habits many times and just the same returned to God but have not kept my path with Him. I'm tired of the relentless sin, in tired of knowing He's watching, waiting for me to take that first step all the while He pushes me. I started being riddled with lustful thoughts, actions and imagery since the age of nine up until now where I'm an adult. I thank God truly for keeping me alive and I'm grateful for the strength of His right hand that willfully write me in His book of life to wake up daily but I truly am lost in this world of sin and I need proper guidance. I fear I've gone in too deep and seeing the revelations unfolding before my eyes, I want to be right with the Lord and have Him know me as His faithful servant to say well done ok that day of judgement. I want to love God like I did when I woke up daily at 3am to offer Him my time. When I fasted at work daily to rid my gluttonous self. I cry out unto the Lord now to hear me and help me before it is too late. I give thanks until my savior and I pray He shapes me before His throne of grace. Please pray for me saints. Any prayer that is not from the heart of cleanliness and pureness I rebuke in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, May the enemy flee from this place and until a place of desolation where he may find no rest.

We hear your honest cry and we join with you before the throne of grace in Jesus' name, thanking God that you are still alive and that His mercy has kept you, because while there is breath there is hope and His hand is still extended to you.

We rejoice that you were baptized and that you have known seasons of seeking Him early in the morning and denying the flesh through fasting, and we understand your weariness with the cycle of returning and then turning away again. What you describe is the struggle between the flesh and the Spirit that every believer must face, but we want to assure you that you have not gone too deep for His grace to reach you. His mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness is great. Lamentations 3:22-23 says it is because of Yahweh's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn't fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness. And 1 John 1:9 promises if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We want to gently correct the thought that God is standing over you watching to condemn you or pushing you from a distance. He is drawing you with loving kindness and calling you to come near, and when you draw near to Him He will draw near to you. James 4:7-8 tells us be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. Your weariness with sin is actually a sign that the Holy Spirit is working in you and convicting you, and that is grace.

We must also speak plainly about the lustful thoughts, imagery and actions that have followed you since childhood. Jesus taught in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. And 1 Corinthians 6:18 commands flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. This is not something to manage but to flee from completely. That means making a covenant with your eyes as Job did in Job 31:1, cutting off every source of provision for the flesh, whether it is images, videos, websites, or fantasies, and refusing to entertain the thought even for a moment. Galatians 5:16 says walk by the Spirit, and you won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. You cannot overcome this in your own willpower, you must walk daily by the Spirit through the Word, prayer, and fellowship.

Do not believe the lie that because you have fallen many times you are no longer His or that your baptism has lost its power. Proverbs 24:16 says for a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again. And 1 John 2:1 says we write these things to you so that you don't sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. What God desires is not perfect performance but a broken and repentant heart that turns from sin and trusts Christ. Psalm 51:10 cries create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. And Proverbs 28:13 says he who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. To forsake means to turn away and not return to it, and that requires daily choices.

We encourage you to return to those disciplines you knew, not as a way to earn His favor but as a way to abide in Him. Rise to pray and meet with Him in the Word every day, even if it is not at 3am, let it be consistent. Fast as the Lord leads you to crucify the flesh. Renew your mind daily in Scripture, for 2 Corinthians 5:17 says if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. Put on the new man and starve the old habits. We also urge you to walk in the light with other mature believers, confess your struggle to a godly pastor or faithful brother in Christ who can hold you accountable, and be planted in a Bible believing church where you can be taught and encouraged. Isolation is where the enemy wins.

We thank God that you have called on the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved and by which we have access to the Father. Acts 4:12 and John 14:6 make this clear. Keep calling on Him, not only as Savior but as Lord who has authority to command your life and to set you free.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear soul who is weary of sin and longs to be right with You forever. Lord, we thank You for his life, for his baptism, for every time he has sought You, and for the conviction that has brought him back again. Forgive him for every turning away, for every lustful thought, image and act, and for every time he has grieved Your Spirit. Wash him clean by the blood of Jesus and cleanse him from all unrighteousness. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Break the chains of lust that have bound him since childhood and set him free indeed, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and teach him to walk by the Spirit so he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Give him strength to flee every temptation, to make a covenant with his eyes, and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Restore to him the joy of his salvation and the hunger to seek You daily in prayer and in Your Word. Let him know that Your mercies are new every morning and that Your grace is sufficient to keep him. Establish his feet on solid ground, plant him in fellowship with faithful believers, and shape him before Your throne of grace into a faithful servant who will one day hear well done, good and faithful servant. We rebuke the enemy and every unclean spirit that has tormented him and we command it to flee in Jesus' name and find no place to return. Keep him, Lord, now and forever, and let him live to glorify You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep coming to Him boldly, for Hebrews 4:16 says let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need. Do not give up. God is not finished with you. Rise, confess, forsake, and walk forward. He who began a good work in you will complete it.

We hear the weariness in your words, and also the real hunger underneath it to be close to God again and to stay there. Thank you for sharing so honestly about the cycle of returning and falling back, and about carrying lustful thoughts since childhood. Wanting to wake up loving God the way you did before is a good and sincere desire, and we have prayed for you.

One thing that may help as you walk this out is to think of growth with God as training, not just trying harder. Like training for a long race, it happens through small, steady practices over time rather than one intense effort to fix everything at once. That can take some pressure off when you feel you have gone too far or failed too often. True turning toward God is less about feeling sorry enough and more about a change of direction that He helps you live out day by day, and He sees you as a work in progress He is still shaping.

If it would help, consider two simple next steps. Choose one small, sustainable rhythm to return to, maybe a brief morning prayer or reading, rather than trying to recreate all at once the 3am prayers and daily fasting you described. And invite one trusted pastor or mature believer to walk with you regularly for prayer and honest accountability, so you are not carrying this alone.

We pray for you now. Father, thank You for this brother's life and for his desire to be Yours fully. Draw him close, give him wisdom and strength for each next step, guard his mind and heart, and renew his joy in walking with You. Lead him to faithful community and guide him as he learns to live in Your grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest confession has been weighed with sorrow and with hope, for it carries in it both the grief of sin and the drawing of grace. You say you have turned away and would now be right with Him forever, that you are tired of relentless sin and fear you have gone too deep. Hear then the word of the Lord which is your only comfort, I will heal their backsliding. Hosea 14:4.

Backsliding is spoken of in Scripture as a disease, and so it is. It brings its own temporal chastisement and the loss of comfort, so that the soul that once woke at three in the morning to seek the Lord now finds itself cold and wandering. Yet the promise is not that you shall heal yourself, but that He Himself shall heal you. This healing is His work upon His own elect, to take away the chastisement and to restore lost comfort, that you may again walk in a settled way of grace.

But take heed how you judge your own repentance, for there are two sorts. Judgment may produce a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh and after the manner of the sinful nature, a repentance after a fashion which is not of that holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. You must weigh your repentance in scales and balances before God. True repentance, the repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God and which God accepts, gives God glory. It makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work. It does not merely make you weep because you fear punishment, but makes you weep and abhor your past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and makes you avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for you.

Therefore your repentance and your faith must go together and never be put asunder. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant, and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart, the repentance which pulls down and the faith which builds up, these are inseparable. What is your repentance. Have you a repentance that leads you to look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only. It is necessary that a man to be forgiven should repent, but then the Lord Jesus is exalted on high to give repentance and remission of sins. You cannot work this in yourself. You must look to Him to give it.

You fear you have gone too deep, that after baptism you have returned many times to old habits, especially to lustful thoughts and acts which have beset you since childhood. Know this, perseverance without presumption is the way of the saints. They shall never perish, not because they never stumble, for a saint may stumble through weakness or through lack of watchfulness, but he will be led back again into repentance, he shall not be allowed to perish. The gifts and calling of God are without repentance. What He begins He will perform until the day of Christ. Could His work fail, it were impossible again to renew to repentance, but because His redemption is effectual, He keeps His own in holiness. It is written, they shall not depart from me. If the grace of God has really changed you, you are radically and lastingly changed, and that change secures a life of holiness, not a continuance in the rooted habit of evil.

Do not think that repentance was a thing done once at your baptism and then ended. Repentance lives as long as faith. It is greatly mistaken to suppose it is an operation to be gotten through and then done. Sweet sister repentance is charming company and should walk with you even to the gates of pearl. True repentance unto life will yield works meet for repentance and it will last. Does it last or does it not. That is the test. Not the fervor of rising early for a season, nor fasting at work to subdue gluttony, though those disciplines have their place, but a practical, abiding hatred of sin because it is committed against so holy, so good, so glorious a Being as the infinitely blessed God.

Your way therefore is not to trust in your own resolutions, nor to despair because your resolutions have failed, but to flee anew to Christ. Confess plainly that your lust is sin, that it corrupts and defiles, and that only partaking of the divine nature in Christ causes a man to escape the corruption which is in the world through lust. Ask Him to create in you a clean heart and to renew a right spirit within you. Turn from every provision for the flesh, make no place for imagery or indulgence, bring your body under as you sought to do in fasting, but do it now not to earn favor but because you love Him who has pardoned you.

Let us pray for you now.

O Lord God, who healest backsliding, look upon this soul weary of sin and fearful of Thy judgment. Work in him that true repentance which gives Thee glory, which weeps for sin and looks only to Christ and His finished work. Give repentance and remission according to Thy exaltation. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Keep him by Thy purpose and Thy power that he shall not depart from Thee, but shall persevere in holiness until Thou sayest well done. Restore unto him the joy of Thy salvation and make him to hate sin because it offends Thy goodness. For Jesus sake, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We have read your request with care and we thank you for speaking so openly before the Lord and before his people. Your desire to be right with Him now and forever, to hear His well done on the day of judgment, and to return to that early love when you rose to pray and sought Him with fasting, is itself a sign that God is still at work in you and has not left you.

Know this, God is longsuffering and patient toward you not because He overlooks sin but because He is leading you to repentance. His delay in judgment is not a cause for fear alone but a space given for amendment. Scripture shows that even those who had fallen into innumerable and great sins were washed clean when they turned with a genuine purpose of heart. Manasseh had filled the city with evils and polluted the temple, yet by repentance and serious consideration he was restored. In the same way, no depth you fear you have gone into puts you beyond His mercy when you turn to Him truly. What He asks is not grievous or impossible, but a sincere heart that is willing to consider its ways and turn.

You speak of relentless sin and of lustful thoughts and actions that have followed you since childhood. This struggle is real and it is serious, and God calls you to turn from it completely toward purity and self control. At the same time do not let the enemy use your repeated falls to push you into despair. To sin wounds the soul, but to despair keeps the wound from being healed. The one who has fallen, if he is watchful, can quickly amend what was done through repentance, but the one who gives himself over to hopelessness fails to apply the very remedy God has provided. Godly sorrow is different from hopeless sorrow. Godly sorrow works repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret, because no one will condemn himself for having mourned over sin and turned from it. Let your sorrow lead you back to Christ, not away from Him.

Your baptism in ### was a beginning of new life in Christ, and when we fall after baptism we are not renewed again by being baptized anew, but by returning to the Lord in repentance and faith. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, and it is His blood and His Spirit that cleanses and strengthens you. Like the woman who persisted even when she felt unworthy and still received the children's bread because she did not stop asking, so you are called to persevere in prayer even when you feel unworthy. Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.

For proper guidance, return to simple and steady steps rather than trying to do all at once. Divide virtue as you would learn letters, practicing one thing faithfully and then adding another. Begin again with regular prayer, with the early morning time you once loved, with fasting done humbly before God and not to punish yourself, with guarding your eyes and thoughts, with turning from every image and action that feeds lust, and with walking in the light with other believers who can help you stay accountable. If you have not already, bring this struggle into the care of a trusted pastor or mature believer in your local church so you are not fighting alone. The Spirit helps us not only by showing what to do but by strengthening us through prayer and fellowship to do it.

We are praying for you, that the Lord would grant you a deep and lasting repentance, that He would cleanse you through Christ, fill you with His Holy Spirit, give you strength to put off old habits and to walk in purity, and that He would keep you in His grace until the end. We pray that He would lift despair from you, restore to you joy in His presence, and shape you daily before His throne of grace so that you may live as His faithful servant.
