It's crunch time

We agree with you and we share this urgent burden with you, for we sense the same crunch time in our spirit. Judgment is real and it is coming, and now is the time to humble ourselves and cry out for mercy while there is still time. We are reminded of the promise given to us, if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land 2 Chronicles 7:14. That is not a suggestion, it is a call to repentance for us individually, for the church, and for our nation.

We must be honest that wicked ways are not just out there in the world, they are any sin we tolerate in our own hearts, pride, immorality, dishonesty, idolatry, unforgiveness, and turning away from God's truth. God commands all people everywhere to repent Acts 17:30 and He warns us it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment Hebrews 9:27. Yet in His great mercy He is long suffering, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Peter 3:9. Behold, now is the accepted time. Behold, now is the day of salvation 2 Corinthians 6:2.

We notice your request speaks of seeking God's face, and we want to gently remind us all that there is only one way to seek Him and be heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ, His death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection, that we have access to God, forgiveness, and escape from the judgment to come. Without Jesus, our prayers cannot reach the Father and our turning is incomplete. We rebuke any idea that we can seek God apart from Christ or earn His favor by our own efforts, and we urge anyone who has not yet truly believed on the Lord Jesus to do so today.

So we join together and we pray.

Father in heaven, we humble ourselves before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We confess that we have sinned and fallen short of Your glory, and we repent of our wicked ways. Forgive us, cleanse us by the blood of Jesus, and turn our hearts fully to You. We seek Your face with desperation, not just Your hand. Pour out a spirit of prayer and repentance upon us, upon Your church, and upon this land. Open eyes that are blind, soften hearts that are hard, and draw many to salvation before the day of judgment. Help us to walk in holiness, to hate what You hate and love what You love, and to watch and pray with urgency. Heal our land as You have promised, and keep us ready for the return of Christ. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage us all to stay on our faces before Him daily, to turn from every sin the Holy Spirit reveals, to share the gospel of Jesus while there is time, and to live as those who know judgment is coming but mercy is still available.

We hear the urgency and the burden you are carrying for our community. It is a heavy thing to feel the weight of what is wrong around us and to long for people to turn toward God. Thank you for bringing that burden to prayer instead of carrying it alone.

That desire to seek God's face is itself something God honors. We do not have to fix everything at once, but we can be faithful in the small, steady steps right in front of us. One simple way to live out what you wrote is to set aside a consistent time this week to pray with one or two others who share this concern. Even ten minutes together, honestly bringing confession and asking for mercy for our own lives and for our neighbors, can keep that urgency from turning into anxiety and turn it into hopeful action. If you do not already have that, ask someone you trust to join you.

We also want you to know you are not alone in this. We are joining you in prayer for awakening and for hearts, including our own, to stay soft toward the Lord.

Father, we come to You through Jesus and ask for Your mercy on us and on our communities. Search our hearts, draw us closer to You, and help us walk in Your ways day by day. Give us courage to pray faithfully and to love our neighbors well while we wait on You. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a true and weighty word you have uttered, for judgment is surely coming and the need of the hour is to seek the Lord while He may be found. We join our hearts with yours in this burden and bring your cry before the throne of grace.

This seeking of His face is not a light thing. As Daniel did, we must set our face unto the Lord God to seek by prayer and supplication. It means dependence upon God alone, for no man can get up a revival by his own power. None can revive us but the Lord Himself. Therefore we breathe this petition into His ear, Will You not revive us again that Your people may rejoice in You. The crown of such a revival is not merely that men are converted, though that is precious fruit, but that God is glorified and His people rejoice in Him. Even as we mourn over sin, we are to rejoice in God.

Your call to turn from wicked ways touches the very soul of true repentance. There is a carnal repentance that is of the flesh, wrought by fear of judgment alone, which does not give God glory. But the repentance which is the work of the Holy Spirit is a repentance unto life. It gives God glory, for it confesses the justice of His law and the sentence against us, and then looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only. It is a repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant and admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart, a repentance that weeps and abhors past sin because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and which avoids present sin because of the love of God who died for us. You may know it by this, that it yields works meet for repentance and it lasts. It is practical and abiding, not a transient tear.

Remember also that it is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance. All His mercies, the open Bible, the seasons of prayer, the very breath we draw, are tokens of His goodness meant to lead us tenderly to turn to Him. And if our will is stubborn, Christ is exalted on high to give repentance. He who died on Calvary is the only bridge across the gulf, the only door to peace with God. Through Him alone we have salvation, and through Him alone we can approach our covenant God with childlike hope.

Therefore let us not take delays in prayer for denial. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much, but if prayer is not fervent we cannot expect it to be effectual. Let us continue much in prayer even when we have not liberty, setting our face fully to win the promised mercy, praying with resignation after our Savior's model, Nevertheless not as I will, but as You will, and following up prayer with effort. When the family and the church together become fervent and the cry becomes passionate, O God, remember the land and send a blessing, then there will be a sound of abundance of rain.

We pray for you now that the Lord would search your heart and work in you that holy, healthy repentance which needs not to be repented of, that He would turn you fully to Christ and keep you there, and that He would revive His people again for His own glory, that we may rejoice in Him.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your urgency is right and it agrees with Scripture. God has warned that a day of judgment is coming and He calls us now to seek His face and turn from our wicked ways while there is time.

The Lord is longsuffering and patient and He bears with us not because He overlooks sin but because He is drawing us to repentance. If we harden our hearts and remain unrepentant we store up wrath for ourselves against the day when His righteous judgment will be revealed. To whom much has been given much is required, and those who have heard the mighty works of God and the preaching of His word will be held to a stricter account. That is why now is the time for confession and repentance.

We join you in prayer and we urge you to keep praying with perseverance. Prayer is a great weapon for the daily fight. The affairs of each day are like a storm with many rocks, and we need to make God favorable to us by prayer early in the morning and again at night, so that we may go through the day without shipwreck. It is good to have the prayers of others for you, but we must also be alert ourselves and not sleep spiritually.

The apostle says the night is far spent and the day is at hand, and judgment is at the doors. In that sense the end of each person's life is his own judgment day, and we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ to give an account. This should lead us not to fear without hope but to humble ourselves, to confess our sins, to turn from them, and to seek the mercy of God through Jesus Christ alone. Even after we have believed, the Lord has taught His people to pray for forgiveness, and He promises that when we forgive others and give ourselves to Him with almsgiving and faithfulness and a changed life, He cleanses us.

So let us pray together that God will grant true repentance, that He will turn our hearts from every wicked way, that He will help us to live soberly and righteously, and that many more will seek His face before that great day. We are praying for you to have strength to continue in prayer and to walk in obedience, trusting not in your own goodness but in the mercy of Christ who alone saves.

Your prayer touches the very heart of what Scripture warns and promises. You are right to feel the weight of the moment, for the Bible is clear that the judgment of God is according to truth. We often judge by appearances and our perceptions are faulty, but God knows every thought and every heart, and His judgment will be true and righteous.

That judgment is also inescapable. No one will escape it by comparing themselves to others or by condemning others while doing the same things themselves. The only question is whether we will be sheltered when it comes.

This is why Scripture urges us not to despise the riches of His goodness, His forbearance and longsuffering. We can easily mistake His patience for indifference, thinking He has withdrawn or does not care because judgment has not fallen immediately. But His goodness has a purpose, to lead us to repentance. He is patient because He is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. He lives outside of time as we know it, and what seems like delay is mercy giving space to turn.

If that mercy is refused, a hard and unrepentant heart only stores up wrath for the day when His righteous judgment will be revealed. It is like a dam holding back water that grows higher and higher. For God will render to every person according to his deeds. To those who patiently continue in seeking to do His will and to seek His glory and honor, He will give eternal life, but to those who persist in evil there is indignation and wrath.

God has shown in the past that He does judge, with the flood in the days of Noah and with Sodom and Gomorrah, and He has shown that He knows how to deliver the godly while reserving the unjust for the day of judgment. He marks those who are His. Through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross there is a basis for peace with God, forgiveness of sins, and shelter from the judgment to come. Judgment begins with the house of God, and those who are covered by Christ are distinguished and protected, not because they are better but because they have been cleansed and belong to Him.

What God seeks now is not a shallow turning to Him with words while the heart remains far away. He is not looking for outward religion or for lips that draw near while seeking only comfort, pleasure, or peace of mind. He seeks truth in the inward parts, a circumcision of the heart by the Spirit, not merely an outward form. True repentance is more than tears of regret over lost blessing or fear of consequences. It is a sincere turning from our wicked ways, a turning from rebelling against His law to submitting to it, and a seeking of His face and His counsel rather than the counsel of the ungodly.

Many in times of crisis offer false comfort and say peace is coming when God is calling for deep and complete repentance and for crying out for His mercy. Do not be among those who are oblivious while living under the shadow of coming judgment, busy with pleasure and trying not to think about it. The promise you quoted remains true, if we humble ourselves and pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways, He hears and forgives and heals.

So let this urgency lead you to that true inward seeking. Bring your heart honestly before Him, confessing sin without excuse, asking for His mercy through Jesus Christ alone, and asking Him to change your heart to love what He loves. Pray not only for yourself but for others, that they would not treasure up wrath but would respond to His goodness while there is still time. He is faithful to deliver those who truly commit themselves to Him.

I am praying with you now that God will give you a tender and repentant heart, that you will know the peace of being reconciled to Him through Christ, and that your life will seek His honor above all else as you wait for His righteous deliverance.
