The Unsearchable Riches of Christ
We rejoice with you that you are having a good day and we commend you for your desire to honor God by turning away from both video games and from lust when temptation and boredom press in. We understand how idleness can leave an open door for the enemy, and we want to stand with you in this battle for purity.

The struggle you describe is common to man, but Scripture calls us to flee sexual immorality and to pursue holiness. We are told in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, and in 2 Timothy 2:22 to flee youthful lusts, but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Lust begins in the heart and mind before it becomes action, as James 1:14-15 says, but each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death. We must lovingly rebuke lust itself, because God designed sexual intimacy to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any sexual thought or act outside of that marriage is sin before God. Ephesians 5:3 tells us that sexual immorality should not even be mentioned among us as is proper among saints. Boredom is not a sin, but how we redeem our time matters, and we are called in Ephesians 5:15-16 to walk circumspectly, redeeming the time, and in Philippians 4:8 to set our minds on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. God promises in 1 Corinthians 10:13 that no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 promises that you will be saved. It is in His name and by His blood that we can approach God boldly for help in time of need and find victory over sin.

We pray together for you now. Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for this dear one who desires purity. We ask You to fill the boredom and emptiness left by video games with Your presence, Your Word, and Your purpose. Help us to hide Your word in our hearts that we might not sin against You as Psalm 119:11 teaches. Give us strength to flee temptation, to walk by the Spirit so we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh as Galatians 5:16 promises, and to take the way of escape You faithfully provide. Renew our minds, guard our eyes and thoughts, and lead us to wholesome fellowship, meaningful work, prayer, and service that redeem the time for Your glory. Strengthen us to pursue righteousness and to live in a way that honors You, and fill us with Your peace and joy today. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to remain vigilant and practical in this season. When boredom comes, we can choose to immediately turn to prayer, to open the Bible, to take a walk, to serve someone, to fellowship with other believers, or to work diligently with our hands. We find great help in memorizing Scripture, keeping our devices and eyes guarded, and inviting a trusted Christian brother or sister to hold us accountable. God sees your effort to quit what was distracting you and your choice not to give in to lust, and He is faithful to honor that obedience. Keep seeking Him moment by moment, and He will give you grace to stand.

Thank you for being honest with us today. We hear how much you want to stay on a good path, and it takes real strength to name the boredom and the temptation while also calling this a good day. Stepping away from video games is a big decision, and it makes sense that the hours feel empty now.

That restless, bored feeling is common when a major time filler is gone. The mind looks for something to grab onto, so it helps to have a plan ready before the boredom hits instead of deciding in the moment.

One simple step that helps many is to make a short list of two or three go-to options you can turn to right away. It could be getting outside for a walk, calling or texting a trusted friend, helping with a task at home or at church, or learning something hands on that keeps your focus engaged. And because trying to stand alone makes it harder, consider inviting one faithful person, a friend, mentor or pastor, to know what you are working through so you can check in honestly when those dull stretches come. Isolation tends to make temptation stronger, steady connection helps keep you grounded.

We are grateful for you and we are praying for you.

Father, we lift our brother up to You today and thank You for his desire to walk faithfully. Give him strength in quiet and boring moments, fill his time with what is good and life giving, and surround him with people who care for him and will encourage him. Lead him step by step and keep him close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Thank you Heavenly Father for blessing us with another day, and for all you do for all of us. All glory and honor belongs to you Father. Please Heavenly Father guide and protect this requestor. I lift this prayer up on your glory Father God and ask that you grant your perfect will. In Jesus name I pray. Amen

““But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.”

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Your open and honest confession is itself a mercy from God, for you have brought your struggle into the light where grace can deal with it. To feel boredom after putting away a former habit, and to feel at the same time the pull of lust, is a common experience of the Christian soldier, and you do well to ask for prayer rather than to fight alone.

You must know that the same trial may be both a trial from God and a temptation from Satan. Your quitting of games is in itself good if it was time ill spent, but the emptiness that follows is a trial of your patience and faith, and the enemy will seek to make it a temptation to sin. Remember the pedigree of sin which the apostle James gives us, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. Any sin that we cling to and love will bring forth death, rest assured of that. Therefore lust must not be entertained for a moment, but hated and fled from.

Our Lord taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation. That prayer confesses that temptation in itself is perilous, though God can bring great benefit out of it. It is right to pray, spare me from too great trials, lest I fall by their overcoming my patience, my faith, or my steadfastness. Pray it daily and pray it honestly, and then take care never to go into temptation wilfully. The man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into it is a liar before God. If you know where the snare lies, in idle hours, in the screen, in secret places, in thoughts allowed to wander, turn your feet another way.

Boredom is not a small thing, for idleness gives opportunity to the tempter. Charity and purity are the two great garments of Christianity, and neither can be neglected. Purity without charity withers, and charity without purity will be of no use, for without holiness no man shall see the Lord. When you have laid aside one way of spending your hours, you must fill those hours with better things, lest the house being empty the enemy return. Visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction if you can, give yourself to honest labor with your hands, open the Scriptures, pray, walk, serve your family and your church, and keep close company with Christ who is not a memory of eighteen hundred years ago but a living and familiar Friend.

Know also this for your comfort, a man may be tempted and yet not have sinned. To be tempted to run away from the service of God, or to cast yourself down, is not sin if you hate the temptation and look to Christ to overcome it. Saints first learn to overcome evil, and then they learn also to overcome Him who is goodness itself by looking to Him for all things. Look to the Lord Jesus Christ at once with a glance of faith. Tell Him you are weak and He is strong. Ask Him to keep your garments unstained and to keep you standing fast at the end of the day.

My prayer for you is that God would keep you from the mischief of this temptation, that He would not withdraw His grace but strengthen you by His Spirit, that He would fill your time with profitable and holy employment, and that He would make you pure in heart and fruitful in love toward others. May He give you grace to hate the sin and to love the Saviour, and to find in Him better joy than any lust or idle amusement can offer. Keep watching and keep praying, and the Lord who has begun a good work in you will keep you till the end.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
