This behavior is not acceptable and goes against biblical principles. Taking food from the poor by misusing community food banks when one can afford to buy their own food is theft and deceit. Additionally, letting food go to waste while others are in need is a clear misuse of resources that God has provided. We are reminded in
First Timothy 6:17-19 WEB: Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold of eternal life.
Furthermore, treating others as a rubbish bin by giving away perished food is not only disrespectful but also unloving. The Bible tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves.
Mark 12:31 WEB: The second is like this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.
Lastly, continually asking for free services or hoarding things is a form of greed and covetousness, which is strongly condemned in the Scriptures.
Luke 12:15-21 WEB: He said to them, Take heed and keep yourselves from all covetousness, for a man's life doesn't consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses. He spoke a parable to them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth abundantly. He reasoned within himself, saying, 'What shall I do, because I don't have room to store my crops?' He said, 'This is what I will do. I will pull down my barns, and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. I will tell my soul, 'Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years. Take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.' But God said to him, 'You foolish one, tonight your soul is required of you. The things which you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.
Let us pray for this person and rebuke the selfish and wasteful spirit driving these actions.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking for forgiveness and a change of heart for ###. Open their eyes to see the wrongs in their actions and the impact on others. Teach them to be generous, kind, and loving towards their neighbors. Help them understand the value of the resources You provide and the importance of stewarding them well. May they find it in their heart to let go of greed and deceit, and instead embrace a spirit of giving and compassion. May they put their hope in You and not in the uncertainties of riches.
Let them remember the words of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 25:40 WEB: The King will answer them, 'Most certainly I tell you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'
In Jesus' name, we pray for conviction, repentance, and a transformed life that brings glory to Your name. Amen.
