Issues regarding conversion

Disciple of Prayer
Hello, my name is ###. I am a teenager who is about to become an adult soon that has recently converted from Sunni, Islam to non-denominational Christianity. This has caused many problems however. My relatives who are still Muslim keep attempting to convince me to revert back but it had become intimidation by this point. Methods as far as isolation have also been used. Please pray that these issues quickly end and that my relatives are able to find their path through Jesus Christ.

We stand with you in this critical moment of your walk with Christ, and we rejoice that the Lord has drawn you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Your conversion is a testament to God’s sovereign power, and we praise Him for opening your eyes to the truth of the gospel. The path you’ve chosen is not easy, but it is the narrow way that leads to eternal life, and Jesus Himself has promised to be with you always, even to the end of the age.

The opposition you face from your relatives is not unexpected. Jesus warned us in John 15:18-20, *"If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you."* Your family’s attempts to intimidate or isolate you are spiritual battles, not merely personal conflicts. Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, *"For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places."*

Yet, even in this struggle, you are called to respond with love, wisdom, and unwavering faith. In 1 Peter 3:14-16, we are told, *"But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. ‘Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled.’ But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear: having a good conscience; that, while you are spoken against as evildoers, they may be disappointed who curse your good way of life in Christ."* Your life—your gentleness, your patience, and your steadfastness in Christ—can be a powerful witness to them.

We also urge you to remember that your primary allegiance is now to Christ, not to the expectations of your family. In Luke 14:26-27, Jesus says, *"If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple. Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple."* This does not mean you should be disrespectful or unkind, but it does mean that your faith in Christ must take precedence over all else, even if it costs you relationships. Your obedience to Him is what matters most.

As for your relatives, we pray earnestly that the Holy Spirit would soften their hearts and open their eyes to the truth. Remember, salvation belongs to the Lord, and He is the one who draws people to Himself. Your role is to pray for them, love them, and live in a way that honors Christ, trusting that God is at work even when you cannot see it. In 1 Timothy 2:1-4, we are instructed to pray for all people, *"that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth."*

Now, let us pray together for you and your family:

Heavenly Father, we lift up our brother in Christ before Your throne of grace, asking that You would surround him with Your protection, peace, and presence. Lord, You know the trials he faces— the pressure, the isolation, and the spiritual attacks from those who oppose his faith. We ask that You would be his shield and his strong tower, a very present help in trouble. Strengthen him, Lord, in his inner being by the power of Your Holy Spirit, that he may stand firm in the faith, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.

Father, we pray for his relatives who are still bound by the lies of Islam. Soften their hearts, Lord, and remove the veil that keeps them from seeing the truth of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Draw them to Yourself, Father, by Your irresistible grace. Open their eyes to the deception they are under and lead them to repentance and faith in Jesus alone for their salvation. Let them encounter You in dreams, in visions, in the words of Scripture, and through the testimony of Your people. Break the chains of tradition and fear that bind them, and set them free to worship You in spirit and in truth.

Lord, we ask that You would provide our brother with a community of believers who can encourage him, disciple him, and stand with him in this season. Connect him with a Bible-believing church where he can grow in his faith, be equipped for the battles ahead, and find godly mentors who will walk alongside him. Give him wisdom, Lord, to know how to respond to his family—when to speak, when to remain silent, and how to do so with grace and truth.

We rebuke the spirit of fear, intimidation, and isolation that the enemy seeks to use against him. Satan, we command you in the name of Jesus Christ to flee from him, for greater is He who is in him than he who is in the world. Lord, fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and let him rest in the assurance that nothing can separate him from Your love.

Finally, Father, we ask that You would use his life as a light in the darkness, that his family would see Christ in him and be drawn to the Savior. May his faith be a testimony to Your power and goodness, and may You be glorified through his life.

We pray all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who alone is the way, the truth, and the life. Amen.

Stay strong in the Lord, and do not waver in your faith. The battles you face now are temporary, but the reward that awaits you is eternal. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith. Read His Word daily, pray without ceasing, and trust that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. If you have not yet been baptized, we strongly encourage you to take this step of obedience as a public declaration of your faith in Christ. And if you have not yet found a solid church family, seek one out urgently—you were not meant to walk this path alone.

We are standing with you in prayer, and we believe that God will bring victory in this situation. Hold fast to Him, for He is faithful.

We're here with you, dear friend, as you navigate this challenging path. We're so glad that you've found the truth in Jesus Christ and have chosen to follow Him. It's not easy, we know, but remember, Jesus promised to be with you always, even to the end of the age.

We want you to know that the opposition you're facing is not unusual. In fact, Jesus warned us in John 15:18-20 that the world would hate us, just as it hated Him. This is a spiritual battle, not just a personal one, and it's important to remember that our struggle is against spiritual forces, not flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12).

But even in this struggle, we're called to respond with love, wisdom, and unwavering faith. In 1 Peter 3:14-16, we're told to live with humility and respect, always being ready to give a reason for the hope that is within us. Your life, your gentleness, your patience, and your steadfastness in Christ can be a powerful witness to your relatives.

We also want to remind you that your primary allegiance is now to Christ, not to the expectations of your family. Jesus said in Luke 14:26-27 that if anyone comes to Him and does not disregard his own family, he cannot be His disciple. This doesn't mean you should be disrespectful or unkind, but it does mean that your faith in Christ must take precedence over all else, even if it costs you relationships.
