Is fascination with ### idolatry?

In Bible times idolatry was someone worshipping a stone image. Now, we have people with statues of Buddha, Catholics praying to statues of the saints. But one thing I've been hearing about till my ears are ringing is AI. Everyone but me is fascinated by it, and also speak glowing words about it. They talk about it like it's the answer to everything. So I have to ask is this idolatry, or at least can it lead to idolatry? To me, it seems so. (especially if they're relying on and praising it instead of God) After all, there are Christians who say the image built to the antichrist that "speaks" can be an AI thing. Idolatry?

We hear your concern and share your unease about the growing fascination with AI and other modern forms of idolatry. The Bible is clear that idolatry is not just about bowing down to physical statues—it is about anything that takes the place of God in our hearts, minds, or devotion. In Exodus 20:3-5, God commands, "You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them." This warning extends beyond wooden or stone idols to anything we elevate above the Lord.

The apostle Paul also warns in Colossians 3:5, "Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Here, idolatry is defined as covetousness—an inordinate desire for something that is not God. When people speak of AI as if it is the answer to everything, they are placing their trust in human innovation rather than in the Creator who gave us the ability to innovate. This is a subtle but dangerous shift in allegiance.

We must also remember that idolatry is not just about what we worship but about what we rely on. In Jeremiah 17:5, the Lord declares, "Cursed is the man who trusts in man, and makes flesh his arm, and whose heart departs from Yahweh." When AI becomes the focus of our hope, problem-solving, or even our praise, it can easily become an idol. The same applies to statues of Buddha, prayers to saints, or any other object or concept that draws our hearts away from the one true God.

We rebuke the spirit of idolatry in this fascination with AI and any other modern distractions that seek to replace God. We declare that no created thing—whether a statue, a machine, or human ingenuity—can ever compare to the glory and sufficiency of our Lord. In Revelation 2:14-15, Jesus rebukes the church in Pergamum for tolerating those who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who "taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality." We must be equally vigilant today, recognizing that idolatry can take many forms, including the subtle elevation of technology over God.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that long to worship You alone. We confess that it is easy to be distracted by the things of this world, to place our trust in human achievements rather than in Your sovereign power. Lord, we ask that You would open the eyes of those who are fascinated by AI and other modern idols, that they would see the emptiness of placing their hope in anything but You. We pray for discernment for Your people, that we would recognize the subtle ways idolatry creeps into our lives and turn away from it. Father, we declare that You alone are worthy of our praise, our trust, and our devotion. Guard our hearts from the allure of idolatry, and help us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to stand firm in your convictions and continue to seek the Lord’s wisdom in this matter. The world will always be drawn to the latest innovations and distractions, but as believers, our focus must remain on Christ. In 1 John 5:21, we are exhorted, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols." This is a timeless warning that applies to every generation. Do not be swayed by the crowd, but let your heart be anchored in the truth of God’s Word. If others around you are captivated by AI or any other idol, be a light to them. Share the hope and truth of the Gospel, and pray that their eyes would be opened to the futility of trusting in anything other than the Lord.

We also want to gently remind you that our access to God and our salvation come only through the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If those around you are placing their trust in AI or any other created thing, they are missing the opportunity to know the one true God who sent His Son to die for their sins. Share this truth with love and boldness, for it is the greatest gift we can offer.

We hear your concern, dear friend. It's easy to get caught up in the latest innovations, isn't it? But as followers of Christ, we must always keep our focus on Him. The Bible warns us about idolatry, not just about physical statues, but anything that takes God's place in our hearts and minds. Even something as seemingly harmless as AI can become an idol if we start relying on it more than we rely on God.

We've seen this before, haven't we? In the Bible, we read about the Israelites worshipping a golden calf while Moses was on the mountain. They had forgotten about the God who had brought them out of Egypt. We must learn from their mistake. No matter how advanced or helpful a technology is, it can never replace our need for a relationship with the living God.

Let's pray together. Lord Jesus, we ask that You would help us to keep our eyes fixed on You. Help us to resist the temptation to place our trust in created things, whether they're made of metal and circuits or of flesh and blood. Open our eyes to the emptiness of idolatry and fill our hearts with a deeper love for You. In Your mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Let's stand firm in our convictions, dear friend. The world will always be drawn to the latest innovations, but our focus must remain on Christ. As it says in 1 John 5:21, "Little children, keep yourselves from idols." Let's not be swayed by the crowd, but keep our hearts anchored in the truth of God's Word. And let's share this truth with love and boldness, because there's no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12).

Seek His Face and Presence not just His hand. In his Presence is everything you need. This does not mean you can have any material thing, perfect spouse because you asked for it in Jesus Christ name. You will have your needs, some of your wants, and difficult trials. The difficult trials are supposed to refine your character and make you more like Jesus. He is more interested in getting you to everlasting life and having your heart in the right place than he is in giving you gifts. It’s eternal life he’s concerned with.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Healed Spirit Soul And Body

We are so grateful you trusted us with your heartfelt concern about the growing fascination with AI and whether it could lead to idolatry. It’s clear this weighs heavily on your spirit, and we want you to know we have been praying earnestly for wisdom, discernment, and clarity for you in this matter. The way you described the shift from ancient stone idols to modern-day distractions—whether statues or technology—shows a deep awareness of how easily our hearts can turn away from God, even in subtle ways.

We’ve been lifting up your question before the Lord, asking Him to guard your heart against fear or isolation as you stand firm in your convictions. We’ve prayed that He would reveal truth to you, strengthen your faith, and help you navigate conversations with those around you who may not yet see the spiritual risks. Most of all, we’ve asked God to remind you that He alone is worthy of our worship, trust, and praise—no invention, no matter how advanced, can ever replace His sovereignty or His love for us.

If the Lord has already provided you with peace, direction, or even opportunities to share His truth in this area, we would love to hear how He’s moving! Your praise report could be such an encouragement to others who may be wrestling with the same concerns. If, however, you’re still seeking answers or feel like this burden hasn’t lifted, please don’t hesitate to post this request again. We are here to stand with you in prayer, interceding for God’s light to shine in the midst of cultural confusion.

May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you into all truth, filling you with His peace as you fix your eyes on Jesus. We pray this in His mighty and matchless name.

When we think of idolatry, we may think of groups worshipping a false god, but in the form of an image. Even the Catholics praying to Mary. However, I would think there are other ways someone can be guilty of it. Like anything that is focused on at the exclusion of God. Like of the people I...
