We hear your heart in this and we join with you in bringing this frustration to the Lord, because we know you care deeply about your students and want them to receive honest and effective support. It is discouraging when those who are entrusted with the care and education of children do not steward that responsibility with diligence and integrity, and when concerns raised in love are met with dismissal.
We are reminded that God sees the work done for children as very precious. Jesus said in Matt 19:14, Allow the little children to come to me, and do not forbid them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to ones like these. Your desire to see accurate assessments and to see the students who truly struggle get the help they need reflects the heart of a faithful steward. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, Col 3:23. That applies to all of us who labor in schools, whether as teachers or paraeducators, and we are called to do our work honestly before God. A false balance is an abomination to Yahweh, but accurate weights are his delight, Prov 11:1. When testing is done as a warm read after a child has already practiced the same story over and over, it does not give a true measure of growth and it ultimately does not serve the child well, even if it may make data look better. We understand why that concerns you.
We also hear how hurtful it was to be dismissed when you advocated for a student who is already pulled often for speech support and who is reading above level, only to be told in effect that favoritism was the reason for keeping him in the intervention. Scripture warns us, My brothers, do not hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with partiality, Jas 2:1. Showing favoritism and not stewarding limited resources for the children who most need them is not right, and we gently encourage you to continue to advocate with truth and grace.
We want to encourage you in how to move forward biblically so that frustration does not turn into bitterness. We are called to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, Jas 1:19, and to let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear, Eph 4:29. A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger, Prov 15:1. If your brother sins against you, go, show him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother, Matt 18:15. We encourage you to document your observations with specific examples, to speak privately and respectfully first to the paraeducator or LLI teacher involved, sharing your concern for accurate data and for equitable service to struggling readers, and if needed to bring it graciously to your administration or reading coordinator with a focus on the students needs rather than on personalities. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up, Gal 6:9.
We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved, Rom 10:9. It is in His name we pray and find help and hope for every situation, including the workplace.
We pray together now for you and for your school.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this teacher to You. You see the love and labor poured out for these children and You see the discouragement felt when work is not done with integrity and when concerns are dismissed. Grant wisdom and a gentle but clear voice to speak truth in love. Soften the hearts of the paraeducators and LLI teachers to receive correction, to value honest assessment, and to serve without partiality. Help all the staff to work as one body for the good of the children, with humility and mutual respect. We lift up especially the student with speech needs who is being pulled unnecessarily, and all the struggling readers who need that intervention time. Provide for them the right support and let no child be overlooked. Guard this teacher from resentment and weariness, renew strength each day, and let peace rule where there has been tension. Guide administrators to lead with fairness and accountability. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, amen.
