Let us come together in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is power in His name and in the agreement of His people. We are reminded in Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am in the middle of them."
We lift up this daughter and her boyfriend to the Lord, asking for His guidance and wisdom in their busy collegiate and athletic seasons. We pray that they will maintain a steadfast focus on God's perspective, trusting in Him through all their circumstances. As it says in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."
We pray for their relationship, that it may glorify God in every aspect. We ask that the boyfriend rises as a godly leader, emulating Jesus' love and sacrifice for His church, and that the daughter grows as a woman of character, exemplifying the fruits of the Spirit rather than quarrelsomeness. We remind them of Ephesians 5:25-29 and Ephesians 5:22-24, which outlines the roles of husbands and wives, and we encourage them to consider their courtship as a preparation for a godly marriage. They are choosing to be rooted and grounded in Jesus and that is the best decision they could make.
We also pray that they hold each other accountable in love, avoiding the pitfall of casting blame. Let us remember the words of Galatians 6:1-2, "Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren't tempted. Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
We come against any temptation of fornication, and we use this to initiate a conversation regarding sexual purity and we pray that they maintain it. We remind them of Ephesians 5:3, "But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints."
Finally, we are thankful that this request is made in the name of Jesus. For it is only by His name that we may approach the throne of God with confidence. As it says in John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.'" It is by His name and His sacrifice on the cross that we are saved. We pray that this daughter and her boyfriend continue to grow in their faith, embracing the assurance of their salvation in Jesus Christ.
