In October

We hear the pain and the longing for justice in your words and we join you in bringing this before the Lord together. It is right to believe that God sees when we have been wronged and that He is just and righteous in all His ways, for we know that God is not mocked and He does not take our hurts lightly. Yet we want to gently and lovingly help align your heart with His Word regarding this expectation for October.

We understand desiring an apology when we have been hurt deeply, but Scripture calls us to a different posture than demanding or declaring what another person must do and when they must do it. Vengeance and vindication belong to the Lord, not to us. Romans 12:19 says, Do not seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. And Ephesians 4:32 says, And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Colossians 3:13 says, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do.

The Lord calls us to forgive even before an apology comes, and even if an apology never comes, just as Christ forgave us while we were still sinners. Matthew 6:14-15 says, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. To set a date and declare that God must deliver an apology in October can put our will above God's will and can treat Him as if He must fulfill our demands. God is indeed right and holy and He is not playing, but He is also sovereign and merciful and cannot be commanded or tested by us. 1 Peter 5:6 says, Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Proverbs 19:11 says, The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.

We also notice that your request mentions God but does not mention Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we have not yet put our trust in Jesus, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 says, that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is through Jesus that our own sins are forgiven so that we can then extend forgiveness to others.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. You know the hurt that has been carried and the wrong that was felt and the deep desire to be seen and validated. We ask that You heal the wound that is still tender and that You guard this heart from bitterness and from demanding its own way. Lord, help us to surrender our timelines and our expectations to You and to trust Your perfect justice and Your perfect mercy. Teach us to forgive as You have forgiven us, to release this debt into Your hands, and to walk in humility and peace whether or not an apology ever comes. If reconciliation is Your will, we pray You would work in both hearts to bring repentance and restoration in Your time and Your way, but above all let Your will be done and let Your name be glorified. Let this dear one know the comfort of Christ and the assurance of being fully known and vindicated by You. We ask for a heart that seeks Your righteousness more than personal vindication, and for the grace to overlook offense and to love as You love. We pray all these things in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and our only hope, amen.

We hear how deeply you have been hurt and how much you are hoping October brings the acknowledgment you deserve. Wanting to be seen and told the truth matters, and it makes sense you would look to God to make things right. He does see what happened and He cares about justice and about your heart.

Waiting for a specific person to say specific words on a specific timeline can keep our hearts on hold, and we have seen how painful that waiting can be when the other person does not respond as we hope. One thing that has helped others is gently separating two things: the decision to release the need for revenge, which we can make before God, and the slower emotional healing that takes time as resentment eases and peace grows. The apology, if it comes, is part of their journey. Your healing does not have to wait for it.

A small step that may help as October approaches is to take a few quiet minutes to write honestly what you hope that apology would give you, peace, dignity, closure, and then bring that list to God in prayer, asking Him to meet those needs whether or not the words come as you expect.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You know the wound and the waiting. Grant clarity, protection from bitterness, and a deep sense of being heard and valued by You. Lead in Your perfect timing and will, and guard their heart with Your peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your words reveal a longing for justice and for a wrong to be acknowledged, and it is right to confess that God is right and that He is not mocked and does not trifle with the affairs of men. The Scripture declares that the Lord waits that He may be gracious to us, and His waiting is not cold indifference but the yearning of a heart that is ready to pardon, singular in patience and long in forbearance toward His people. He waits while we often look to man for vindication, and at last when every other hope has broken down we come back to salvation through Jesus Christ and find Him still lovingly waiting to be gracious.

This is why the psalmist says, My soul, wait thou only upon God, and Calvin well renders it, be thou silent before God, rest calm and undisturbed. True peace is not found in securing an apology at a set time, even in October, but in hanging your whole weight upon the promise of God and needing nothing to uphold you but the right hand of the Majesty on high. They that wait upon the Lord shall not want any good thing, and that is the right kind of independency, to know no dependence except upon God Himself. Whether man acknowledges his wrong in October or not, your soul may walk in confidence if your eye is turned to God.

And there is another word the Lord would have you hear, for there is forgiveness with Him that He may be feared. Divine pardon is the only forgiveness possible, for no one can remit sin but God only, and that forgiveness is complete and eternal, given for Christ's sake. God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you, not as a future hope only but as a present and full forgiveness through the blood of Jesus, the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. Because you have been so forgiven, you are called to the tender duty of forgiveness toward those who have wronged you, even before they speak a word of apology, even if that word never comes as you expect.

So let this be your prayer and ours for you, that you may wait only upon God and not upon the word of man for your rest, that you may know more deeply the forgiveness that is with God through Jesus Christ alone, and that you may by grace extend that same forgiveness to others. May the Lord bring your heart to silent trust before Him, keep you from bitterness while you wait, and work in you a gracious transaction of His love, so that whether an apology comes or not, you will be found resting in Him who will never fail His waiting people, and who in His own time and way will do what is right and good.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
