In fear of loosing my Job

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I did not respond to a colleagues email who is a lead, so she told the manager. I didn't think I had to respond because it did not apply to me. Every since that happened, she no longer responds to my emailsI. I think she feels that maybe I'm bullying her.

We understand the anxiety and frustration you're experiencing in this workplace situation. First, let’s bring this before the Lord with humility and seek His wisdom and peace.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, asking for Your guidance and grace in this matter. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, asking that You would grant wisdom, clarity, and peace to this individual. Help them to see this circumstance through Your eyes and to respond in a way that honors You. We pray for reconciliation and understanding between them and their colleague. Soften hearts, Lord, and remove any misunderstandings or bitterness. Give them the courage to address this situation with humility and grace, and help them to trust in Your provision for their job and their future. We ask that You would work all things together for good, according to Your purpose. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

This situation calls for reflection on a few biblical principles. First, Scripture encourages us to live at peace with everyone as much as it depends on us (Romans 12:18). It’s important to consider whether there was a misunderstanding that could have been avoided with clearer communication. Even if the email did not directly apply to you, a simple acknowledgment or clarification might have prevented this tension. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." Responding with gentleness, even in small matters, can go a long way in maintaining peace.

Second, we are called to work as unto the Lord, not for human approval (Colossians 3:23). If you feel unjustly treated, remember that God sees your heart and your efforts. Trust in Him to defend you and provide for your needs. Psalm 37:5-6 says, "Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun."

We also want to gently address the fear you mentioned. Fear can often cloud our judgment and lead us to act in ways that are not aligned with God’s peace. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." Instead of allowing fear to dictate your actions, lean on God’s strength and trust that He is in control. If you feel led, consider reaching out to your colleague to clarify the situation. Approach her with humility and a willingness to listen, even if you believe you did nothing wrong. Proverbs 19:11 says, "The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense."

If this situation continues to weigh on you, it may also be helpful to seek counsel from a trusted mentor or pastor who can provide godly wisdom. Above all, continue to commit this matter to the Lord, trusting that He will guide your steps and work all things for your good.

We hear the knot in your stomach, when a small misstep leaves you afraid for your job, it’s easy to panic. That fear is real, and we’re not going to minimize it. Many of us have been in that anxious space where an unreturned email or a sudden chill from a coworker makes the ground feel shaky.

What we’ve seen help is clearing the air with humility, not defensiveness. A brief, face-to-face conversation (or even a phone call) can go a long way. You might simply say, “I’ve noticed things have felt off since I didn’t reply to your email, and I’m genuinely sorry if that came across as dismissive or bullying. I never meant to ignore you, I just didn’t think it applied to me. But I should have let you know.” A quiet, honest admission often dissolves silent grudges and resets trust. It also shows your manager, if the matter comes up again, that you took initiative to make things right.

If approaching her directly feels too heavy, talk it through first with a trusted friend or someone at church who understands workplace dynamics. Getting another perspective can steady your nerves and help you find the right words. Job insecurity stirs real grief and anxiety, but it doesn’t cancel your worth or your future. We’re praying for peace as you wait, and for a breakthrough that restores a good working relationship.

Lord Jesus, calm our friend’s racing heart and give clear thinking. Soften the colleague’s heart and open a door for honest, healing conversation. Please protect this job if it pleases You, and provide wisdom for each step. In Your name, amen.

Lord, soften this colleagues heart and bring her to you. I pray that this person doesn't lose their job. Fill this person with peace and joy and your unconditional love, Amen.

How the fear of man does ensnare us! You held back from a simple courtesy, a word of acknowledgment, because you trembled for your livelihood, and now the silence has bred a wound that festers. The enemy ever magnifies our dreads and dwarfs our God. Did you not see that the Almighty is the guardian of your days, and not this ### nor the ###? "Will he plead against me with his great power?" That is the cry of unbelief. But no; He would put strength in you to act uprightly even when the path is narrow. Now the breach is made, and a broken bone brings pain to the whole body. A neglected fence between brethren invites the wild beasts of misunderstanding. She thinks you a bully; you see her as cold and unresponsive. Who shall mend this but He whose own heart was broken?

Go to her swiftly while it is yet called today. Humble yourself, not with a groveling spirit, but as one who knows that his own righteousness is a chain snapped in every link. Say, "I erred in not responding, and I beg your forgiveness for what appeared as neglect or contempt." Whether you meant harm or no, the offence is real to her, and love must stoop to bind it up. Do not let this column be broken short with a "but" of stubborn pride. The Lord has given us the ministry of reconciliation, and He calls us to be peacemakers. And as for your employment, cast that burden upon Him who feeds the ravens. Fear of losing your place led you into the snare; faith in your God will lift you out of it. Seek first His kingdom of peace and righteousness, and leave the rest to Him who speaks peace to His saints, but let them not turn again to folly.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Why do you let the waves of anxiety toss you about? What tempest is so grievous as a heart that fears man more than God? You say you are in fear of losing your job, but I ask you: what have you truly lost if your conscience is clear? Examine your own heart before the eyes of Him who discerns the thoughts and intents of every soul. If you neglected that email not out of malice but because it did not pertain to you, then you have done no wrong. Yet do not be puffed up by your own innocence; the evil one often sows division through small misunderstandings. Your ### now withholds reply, and you imagine she thinks you a bully. This is a snare of the enemy: you are both caught in a net of suspicion, each feeding the other's fear.

Do not set your peace upon her reply or upon the favor of your ###. Earthly honor is a fleeting beauty; it withers in a day, destroyed by a single rumor or a sideways glance. Why do you hunger for the good opinion of others? That craving itself brings deeper anxiety than the loss you dread. The woman who dresses in gold and costly array enjoys not her own adornment but the gaze of onlookers, and her pleasure is swallowed by the care of keeping it. So too with your reputation: the more tightly you clutch it, the more it crumbles through your fingers.

Search instead for the beauty that never fades: a meek and quiet spirit, a heart that does not retaliate, a conscience that is unafraid. Even now, if you are conscious of no evil, you have good reason to rejoice. The wicked man lives in perpetual terror, pale and trembling, looking on the sun itself with suspicion. But the one who walks in uprightness, committing all to God, stands firm. Do not be enslaved to the fear of losing your daily bread. Is God not present everywhere, hearing, seeing, knowing even the depths of your soul? When you stand before His face, what is the wrath of a ### or a ###? Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, yes, but remember it is God who works in you both to will and to do. He wills that you pursue peace with all men, and so you must go to your ### with humility, not grovelling for your job's sake, but to heal a wound in the body of Christ. Perhaps she has misjudged you; perhaps you were thoughtless in your silence. Seek reconciliation, not a victory. In doing so, you become a partaker of the crown of the peacemakers, even if you never enter the conflict of open accusation.

If the storm rises and you do lose your job, will you then curse God? Recall that those who assist the afflicted, who stand by them in trials, share in their reward. But first, be the one who endures affliction with patience, committing your cause to the One who judges righteously. No earthly loss can take from you the inheritance kept in heaven. Why then are you so fearful? Because you have set your love on things below. Lift your eyes higher. The true riches are never stolen, never fade. Lay hold of them, and this little tempest will seem but a ripple. Serve the Lord with fear, but rejoice with trembling, for He is faithful. Go now, and let your prayer be not "Save my job," but "Unite my heart to fear Thy name, and grant me to love my sister as myself."

You are caught in a misunderstanding right now that has stirred up fear, confusion, and the sting of being misjudged. That is a lonely place to stand, but you are not the first to stand there. The book of Job tells us about a man who suffered loss, pain, and the sharp accusations of people who thought they understood his situation when they really did not. They looked at his circumstances and invented a narrative: he must have been a hypocrite, someone harboring secret sin, or a man who deserved what he got. None of it was true God himself had called Job upright and blameless yet Job’s friends were absolutely convinced otherwise. And their words only added to his grief.

Something similar has happened to you on a much smaller scale, but the dynamic is familiar. You did not respond to an email because the content did not apply to you, and now a colleague has drawn a conclusion about your character that you never intended. The silence that you meant as simple irrelevance has been retold as bullying. That accusation hurts because it is false, and it unsettles you because it threatens your livelihood. Fear rushes in, and suddenly we find ourselves scanning every future interaction, wondering how to prove our innocence to someone who already seems to believe the worst.

Job’s friends heard his cries and instead of comforting him, they rebuked him. They insisted that suffering always points to hidden guilt. Job knew he had not done what they charged him with, yet he could not force them to see his heart. In the same way, you cannot control how your colleague interprets your actions. But you can quiet your own heart and refuse to let fear of losing a job become the loudest voice in your life. The fear of man is a snare; the fear of the Lord leads to wisdom and a settled hatred of evil. That kind of fear does not simply mean being afraid it means living in reverent trust, confident that God sees what others misunderstand.

Job longed for a daysman, a mediator who could lay his hand on both parties and bring true justice. We have been given that mediator in Jesus Christ. He sees your genuine intentions. He knows the parts of this conflict you cannot explain to anyone else. Bring it to him. Ask him to examine your heart, to surface any actual wrong you may have overlooked not so you can grovel before a colleague’s false narrative, but so that you can walk in the open before God. If your conscience is clear, rest there. Job’s integrity did not prevent his suffering, but it anchored him when everything else was stripped away.

Do not let the bullying label immediately shape your identity or dictate your next move out of panic. It may be wise to gently clarify with your colleague or with your manager not defensively, but simply and truthfully, trusting that the Lord can give you words that defuse rather than escalate. But even if a peaceful resolution does not come quickly, your worth and your ultimate security are not tied to that job. God’s hedge around you is not measured by an unblemished reputation at work. Job lost everything outward and yet did not curse God. He cried, he questioned, he despaired of life itself at times, but he did not let fear drive him into lashing out or abandoning his trust. And in the end, God himself spoke, and Job’s latter days were better than his beginning.

The colleague may still feel hurt, and you can extend grace for that hurt even while recognizing the narrative is misplaced. Pray for her. Depart from whatever temptation to repay silence with silence or coldness with coldness. That is the understanding that comes from fearing the Lord: to turn away from evil, even subtle evils like resentment. Your confidence in this moment does not have to be in proving your innocence to a manager or a lead; it can be in the God who sees, who knows, and who will make things right in his time.
