In Desperate Need

Disciple of Prayer
I just broke up with my partner after living at his house for being abused physically and verbally. Last year I lost my job and now I am back at my family house. I have not eaten properly in days. Lord I understand lessons in my struggle, I am praying for open doors, new opportunities, a job and forgiveness.

We hear your cry for help, and our hearts ache with yours as we come before the Lord together in Jesus’ name. What you have endured is not just difficult—it is a violation of God’s design for love, respect, and safety. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:18-19, *"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all."* You are not forgotten. You are seen, and you are deeply loved by the One who created you.

First, we must address the sin that has been committed against you. Abuse—whether physical or verbal—is never justified, and it is never God’s will for anyone to endure such treatment. In Ephesians 5:28-29, husbands are commanded to love their wives as their own bodies, *"for no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the church."* This principle extends to all relationships, as we are called to treat one another with kindness, patience, and respect (Ephesians 4:2-3). What you experienced was a grievous sin, and we stand with you in rebuking the spirit of abuse in the mighty name of Jesus. We declare that no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we pray for justice, healing, and restoration of all that has been stolen from you.

We also want to gently but firmly address the nature of the relationship you described. Living with someone outside of marriage is not God’s design. The Bible is clear in Hebrews 13:4, *"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers."* Fornication—sexual intimacy outside of marriage—opens doors to spiritual attack and emotional bondage. We do not say this to shame you, but to encourage you to break any ungodly soul ties and to invite the Lord to cleanse and restore you fully. In 1 Corinthians 6:18-20, we are told, *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s."* We pray that you would surrender this area of your life to the Lord, asking Him to wash you clean and set you free from any guilt or shame.

Your physical needs are also before the Lord. You have not eaten properly in days, and this grieves us. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:31-33, *"Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, ‘What will we eat?’, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘With what will we be clothed?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well."* We pray that the Lord would open doors for provision—whether through a job, the kindness of others, or supernatural intervention. We declare that you will not lack any good thing (Psalm 34:10) and that the Lord will satisfy your hunger, both physically and spiritually.

You mentioned praying for open doors, new opportunities, and a job. We believe God hears this prayer. In Jeremiah 29:11, He says, *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."* We pray that the Lord would direct your steps (Proverbs 16:9) and lead you to a workplace where you are valued, respected, and provided for. We also pray for favor—favor with employers, favor with coworkers, and favor in every area of your life. Let the words of Philippians 4:19 be your reality: *"My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."*

Forgiveness is a powerful act of obedience, but we want to clarify what forgiveness is—and what it is not. Forgiving your abuser does not mean excusing their sin, pretending it didn’t happen, or placing yourself back in harm’s way. Forgiveness is releasing the offender to God and trusting Him to bring justice (Romans 12:19). It is also about freeing yourself from the poison of bitterness. In Ephesians 4:31-32, we are told, *"Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you."* We pray that the Lord would give you the strength to forgive, not for their sake, but for your healing and freedom.

Lastly, we must address the foundation of your prayer. You mentioned praying to the "Lord," but we want to gently remind you that it is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* Salvation is found in no other name (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus, we invite you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Jesus is not just a distant figure—He is the Good Shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one (Luke 15:4). He sees you, He knows your pain, and He is reaching out to you even now.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this precious sister who has endured so much. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who heals, and the God who restores. We ask that You would wrap Your arms around her and remind her that she is not alone. Heal her heart, Lord, from the wounds of abuse and betrayal. Break every chain of fear, shame, and guilt, and replace them with Your perfect love and peace.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of abuse in Jesus’ name. We declare that no weapon formed against her shall prosper, and we pray for justice to be served. Protect her from further harm, and surround her with godly people who will speak life and truth into her.

Lord, we ask for provision—open doors for a job, financial stability, and favor in every area of her life. Meet her physical needs, and satisfy her hunger with good things. Lead her to a workplace where she is valued and respected, and where she can thrive.

We pray for her emotional and spiritual healing. Help her to forgive, not as a burden, but as a pathway to freedom. Break any ungodly soul ties, and cleanse her from all unrighteousness. Draw her closer to You, and let her experience Your presence in a tangible way.

If she has not yet surrendered her life to Jesus, we pray that she would do so today. Let her know that salvation is found in no other name, and that You are waiting with open arms to welcome her into Your family.

We declare that this is a season of new beginnings. You are making all things new (Revelation 21:5), and we trust that You will turn her mourning into dancing (Psalm 30:11). Strengthen her, Lord, and fill her with hope for the future.

In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

You are not defined by what you have endured. You are defined by the One who created you, who loves you, and who is restoring you. Take one day at a time, and lean on Him. He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). If you are able, seek out a biblical, Christ-centered church where you can find community, support, and discipleship. You do not have to walk this road alone. The Lord is with you, and so are we.
