In A Hurry, Going No Where!

Proverbs 19:21 NKJV

There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless it's the Lord's counsel that will stand.

In our lives we sometimes find ourselves rushing around, we always seem to be in a hurry. One day my precious wife called my attention to this.

We were headed to a certain destination and there was heavy traffic in front of us slowing me down. I proceeded to steadily work my way around each vehicle finally finding myself in front of the pack. Just ahead was a traffic light and I had to stop and within a few minutes we were looking side to side and there were the very same cars I had worked so hard to pass pulling up right beside us. All that rushing around was to no avail. We just laughed about it, but there was an awakening there. We to often are spinning our tires going no where.

As time goes by we should be slowing down and considering what's most important in our lives. As we see in the scripture above, it's the Lord's counsel that will stand and not our fast paced plans. This reminds me of another story that the scriptures spoke about of similar nature.

Luke 10:38-42 (NLT)

Jesus Visits Martha and Mary

38 Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord's feet, listening to what He taught. 40 But Martha was so distracted by the dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, Lord, doesn't it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.

41 But the Lord said to her, My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! 42 There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.

We see Jesus wasn't so concerned about Martha's busy bee spirit, and he called her hand on it. We can see what He thought was more important, that was Mary sitting at His feet, honoring Him and listening to His council.

Do you find yourself busy, spinning your wheels and going no where? If so, take the time to rest in our Lord and allow Him to prioritize your life.

Dear God, Please help us to slow down and learn to rest in You. Give us wisdom to discern what is most important and what is not in our lives. Thank You for the privilege of joining in Your plans and purposes which will stand.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
