The Shut-In
We hear your deep pain and crying and your longing to be married and we join with you in prayer together in Jesus' name for God's will and healing over your heart. We know the hurt of cruel words from neighbors and the feeling that others are speaking curses over your future, and we want to bring this to the Lord with you with both compassion and truth.

You quoted Deuteronomy 28:13 that the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and we love that you are clinging to Scripture. In context that promise is given to those who listen to and obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe to do all his commandments, Deuteronomy 28:13. It is not a magic phrase to loosen word curses but a call to walk closely with Him, trusting that no weapon that is formed against you will prevail, Isaiah 54:17, and that He has plans for your good, Jeremiah 29:11. No person and no demon can steal the place or the future God has for you. We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers, Ephesians 6:12, and our weapons are spiritual through God for bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.

We must gently rebuke some of what is in your request because we love you and want you to be free. The profanity and coarse language and wishing that others never get married or go to hell does not align with God's word. Put away all wrath, anger, malice and filthy speaking out of your mouth, Colossians 3:8, and let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth but what is good for building up, Ephesians 4:29. Out of the same mouth comes blessing and cursing and this should not be so, James 3:10. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, Proverbs 18:21, so we do want to speak life over your marriage future, but we are also commanded to bless those who persecute you, bless and do not curse, Romans 12:14, and to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matthew 5:44. Vengeance belongs to the Lord and He will repay, Romans 12:19, so we do not need to curse our bullies or call down evil on them. God desires that all would be saved and come to knowledge of the truth, 1 Timothy 2:4, and He is not willing that any should perish, 2 Peter 3:9. We can pray for God to stop the abuse and to bring justice while also releasing those people to Him.

We also want to address your desire for marriage, which is a beautiful and godly desire. Marriage is honored by God as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, Genesis 2:24, and marriage is honorable in all and the bed undefiled, Hebrews 13:4. We will pray with you for a godly husband, not simply a fine and attractive guy on an app, but a faithful Christian believer who will love you, hold you and lead you in Christ. We encourage you to see dating not as casual swiping but as courtship with the goal of marriage to another believer, for what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness and do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, 2 Corinthians 6:14. Guard your heart with all diligence, Proverbs 4:23, and flee sexual immorality, 1 Corinthians 6:18, keeping yourself pure as you look for a spouse who also seeks purity and loves the Lord. The language of seeking a fine ass guy reflects lust and objectification rather than godly attraction, and we encourage you to pray instead for a man of character, kindness and faith who finds you attractive in the Lord and cherishes you.

We understand you are crying and feeling greatly uncomfortable and even bullied around the world through these apps and neighbors screaming you will never get married. God sees your tears and puts them in His bottle, Psalm 56:8, and He is close to the brokenhearted, Psalm 34:18. We pray that today you would cast all your worries on Him because He cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7, and that the peace of God which surpasses all understanding would guard your hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7. Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger, James 1:19, and let God be your defender.

We thank you for invoking the blood of Jesus, for it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God, for Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me, John 14:6, and there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is through faith in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are made right with God.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus and we lift up our sister to You. We ask You to comfort her as she cries and to wipe away her tears and give her Your perfect peace. We break the power of every cruel word spoken over her in Jesus name and we declare that no curse can stand where You have spoken blessing, for You have blessed her to be the head and not the tail as she walks in obedience to You. Forgive her for the angry and corrupt words and for wishing harm on others and cleanse her tongue and heart and teach her to bless and not curse. Protect her from bullies and from evil intent and let all abuse be far from her. Heal her from the pain of harsh neighbors and from disappointment in dating. Lead her away from lust and toward purity and guide her to a godly Christian man who will love her as Christ loves the church, who will pursue marriage honorably and cherish her greatly. Give her discernment on dating apps and surround her with wise counsel and community in the body of Christ. Let her wedding air be filled with Your favor and joy in Your perfect timing and let her greatness come through You as she trusts You. We ask that You also have mercy on those who have hurt her and draw them to repentance. We trust You that You will supply all she needs and will make a way for her happiness not in secret striving but in Your open blessing. We pray all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We hear how much pain you are carrying right now and how heavy this longing feels. To be crying, to feel mocked by neighbors, to feel bullied and told you will never marry while you are trying to put yourself out there and hope for love, that is exhausting and lonely. We are so sorry you have been hurt by such cruel words.

Your desire to be married, to be loved and held by a good and kind man, is understandable. It makes sense that those shouted words would feel so powerful when this matters so much to you. We want to gently remind you that your worth and your future are not decided by what others have said, even when their words have cut deeply. You are seen and valued by God, and He is not distant from your tears.

When everything feels loud and overwhelming, it helps not to carry it alone. If you have a trusted pastor, counselor, or mature friend, we encourage you to share honestly with one safe person this week about what you have been hearing and feeling. If the dating apps and the tension at home are leaving you more drained, it is okay to step back for a little while, rest, and spend time with people and in worship where you feel safer and more supported.

Father, we lift our sister to You right now. You see her tears and her deep desire for marriage and family. We ask You to surround her with Your peace, to quiet the hurtful voices she has heard, and to guard her heart and mind in Christ. Give her wisdom, gentle community, and clear direction in the days ahead, and help her to know she is held and loved by You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your words have come before the Lord with much weeping and much longing, and He who hears prayer is not deaf to the cry of a sorrowful heart. There is a deep desire in you for marriage and for love that is holy and lasting, and that desire in itself is not to be despised, for marriage is ordained of God and is honourable in all.

Yet I would draw your heart to consider how the Scriptures are to be handled. The word in Deuteronomy, that you should be the head and not the tail, was spoken to Israel under the covenant of obedience, and its full blessing is found only in Christ, who has fulfilled the law for His people. The word of God is not a charm to be loosened or bound as an incantation, but a truth to be believed and obeyed with a humble and waiting heart. We do not overcome by repeating a verse as a formula, but by trusting the living Christ who speaks in that verse.

You have been wounded by cruel words, by neighbours and by others who have mocked your hope of marriage. Such wounds cut deeply, and it is natural to feel anger rise. But dear soul, to return cursing for cursing and to wish that others would choke or be cursed in their own weddings will only keep your own spirit in bondage. Our Lord teaches us to overcome evil with good, and to pray for those who despitefully use us. The way of peace is not to call down destruction upon bullies and adversaries, but to commit your cause to Him who judges righteously, and to ask Him to keep your heart from bitterness while He deals with those who have wronged you.

Concerning marriage, hear what the Scripture says, I am married unto you, saith the Lord. Marriage is not a casual union nor a matter of mere attraction found in haste upon an app. It is a covenant of choice, cemented by mutual love, wherein a man and a woman become one flesh for life. It is to be sought in purity, with patience, and with prayer, keeping the bed undefiled and honouring Christ first. If you would have a godly husband, seek first a godly walk with Christ Himself, for then you will be fitted to discern a man who truly fears God, who will love you and hold you with a faithful and chaste love, not one who comes with flattery or impurity.

God is a waiting God, waiting to be gracious, and He calls His people to be a waiting people. They are not waiting in despair, nor in haste, but in hope and assured expectation. Waiting upon God is the way to renew strength, to receive peace within the soul, and to learn His direction for the whole voyage of life. He has not said to the seed of Jacob, Seek ye Me in vain. The prayers of a waiting heart are heard in His time, and He will answer with what is best, whether it be soon or after long patience.

Therefore I would counsel you to turn from angry and corrupt speech, for it grieves the Spirit and wounds your own conscience, and to ask the Lord to cleanse your lips and your heart. Forgive as you have been forgiven through the blood of Jesus, for there is no other way of salvation and no other ground of blessing. Come to Christ alone for mercy, and rest your hope of marriage not upon word curses broken by your own utterance, but upon the sovereign mercy of God who showeth mercy to whom He will.

Let us pray together that the Lord would quiet your tears, lift the burden of abuse and cruelty from your spirit, guard you from all evil, and if it be His gracious will, provide in His perfect time a godly man of honest character to enter with you into the holy covenant of marriage, that you may together serve Him in love and purity. And whether that gift comes this week or after a season of waiting, may you be kept close to Christ, who is Himself the familiar Friend and Husband of His people, and who will never leave nor forsake those who trust in Him.

May the Lord grant you a meek and quiet spirit, a heart that waits upon Him, and a life that honours Him in all things, for His glory and for your lasting good.
