I have an opportunity to do an online petition to try to get my province to change and/or enforce regulations regarding seclusion rooms in public schools for special education students. My grandson is one who had a traumatic experience weeks ago and this has prompted me to do more research and hold the school accountable.
The Vice Principal sent me a threatening letter because of the visit I had at the school basically telling him off because of what happened to my grandson. Not to go into details but the reprimand they got was deserved but not taken well on their end.
This only makes me more angry and willing to advocate for my grandson and all out there like him who are put into these seclusion rooms.
I've asked for records documenting every instance of these occurrences and have yet to receive anything. They basically ignore me and don't respond. I'll give them another week and then ask again in writing quoting the School Act. I believe they are covering their backsides and either way I win because either the records will show they are abusing the use of this seclusion room which is only meant for emergencies of imminent danger to oneself or others or they will not provide me with any documentation because they have not been keeping adequate records or have something to hide or maybe both.
I also could inform the Trustee regarding what is going on but I'm not sure if I should do that or not. I also came across an online petition site when doing my research and found a person that did one about three years ago in the province next to mine. Is this a confirmation of what I should do? I'm somewhat anxious about this since I am a strong person but also a very private one and like to keep a low profile.
Also while doing my research I found a school board in a major city in the same province that adheres to provincial guidelines regarding these seclusion rooms yet my city does not. Again, a sign to fight for change?
I need guidance and direction as to what to do since I don't want to make a mistake.
Another thing is my grandson is not in school right now and doesn't want to go back. He states he doesn't feel safe at school because of his teacher and the leadership there. I don't want to put him back in a situation where he is going to be afraid and miserable in. He's supposed to get an education and not be sent to a seclusion room to be traumatized.
I also need confirmation if I should transfer him to a different school which I kind of think is probably going to be the case after what has happened since the school doesn't want to resolve anything and thinks that they did nothing wrong.
Please pray for guidance and answers as to what I should do and how I should proceed. Thank you for any prayers made on my behalf.
