PSALMS 139
1 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
19 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
20 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
PSALMS 140
1 Deliver me, O LORD, from evil men: preserve me from violent men;
2 Which imagine mischiefs in their hearts; continually are they gathered together for war.
3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent: adder's poison is under their lips.
4 Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; preserve me from violent men, which have imagined to overthrow my goings.
5 The proud have hid a snare for me, they have spread a net by the way side; they have set gins for me: say unto me, O LORD, thou art my God.
6 Behold, I have declared thy judgments unto this people, I have shown them that they are wise, and have observed thy statutes.
7 Lo, the wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after thee: thy judgments are far from his sight.
8 Thou hast set my feet in a large room.
9 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
10 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
11 They shall be cast upon the teeth of the dragons: the young lions shall tear them in pieces, with the lions, and the wild beasts of the field shall be at their portion, and dogs shall devour them.
12 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
13 Because thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling,
14 I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living.
15 I believed, therefore have I spoken: I was greatly afflicted:
16 I said in my haste, All men are liars.
17 What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?
18 I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD.
19 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people.
20 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.
21 O LORD, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds.
22 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.
23 I will pay my vows unto the LORD now in the presence of all his people,
24 In the courts of the LORD's house, in the midst of thee, O Jerusalem. Praise ye the LORD.
