I'm not feeling motivated

Servant of All
No, it is not a sin to feel tired or worn out while reading the Bible or engaging in spiritual activities. Physical and mental fatigue are natural human experiences and are not inherently sinful. The Bible acknowledges human limitations and even encourages rest (e.g., Psalm 23:2-3, Mark 6:31). Feeling tired during spiritual practices may simply reflect your body’s needs, not a lack of faith or devotion. God understands our weaknesses and invites us to come to Him for rest (Matthew 11:28-30). If fatigue persists, consider practical steps like resting, praying for strength, or varying your study routine, but do not burden yourself with guilt over a normal human condition.

We hear your heart in this season of feeling unmotivated and tired, even in spiritual things, and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord together in Jesus' name.

You are right that feeling tired or worn out while reading the Bible or praying is not in itself sin. Our bodies and minds have limits, and God as our Creator knows our frame. He makes us to lie down in green pastures and leads us beside still waters, he restores our soul, Psalm 23:2-3. Jesus himself said to his disciples, Come away into a deserted place, and rest awhile, Mark 6:31, for even they had no leisure so much as to eat. And our Lord invites us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls, Matthew 11:28-29. Fatigue does not mean you have failed or that your faith is false, God understands our weakness.

At the same time we want to gently encourage you not to remain in a place of low motivation without seeking the deeper renewal God wants to give. While tiredness is not sin, we are also called to press on and not grow weary in well doing. Scripture says, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we do not give up, Galatians 6:9. And, He gives power to the weak. He increases the strength of him who has no might, Isaiah 40:29. And those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint, Isaiah 40:31. Sometimes lack of motivation can be simple physical need for sleep, rest, nourishment and pacing, and sometimes it can be a sign that we need to confess spiritual dryness, distraction, or discouragement and ask God to stir our affections again. We encourage you to consider practical steps as you mentioned, resting well, keeping a consistent but grace filled rhythm in the Word, praying even short honest prayers for strength, varying your study, and walking with other believers who can encourage you.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true rest. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. And, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name, for whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved, Romans 10:13. It is in His name we pray and find strength for each day.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we lift up this dear one to you in the name of Jesus Christ. You see the weariness and the lack of motivation, and you know every burden. We ask that you grant restorative rest and renew a hunger for your Word and your presence. Forgive us where we have leaned on our own strength or allowed discouragement to linger, and fill us with your Spirit. Teach us to wait upon you that our strength may be renewed, and help us to be diligent to seek you while also receiving the rest you provide. Draw this heart closer to Jesus, that in Him there would be joy, peace, and a steady desire to know you more. Give wisdom for daily rhythms of work, rest, and devotion, and let your Word be fresh and life giving again. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, our rest and our strength, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We hear you on this tiredness, and we want you to know there is no guilt in feeling worn out when you open your Bible or try to pray. Being tired is part of being human, not a sign your faith is failing.

One thing that has helped many of us is to think of our walk with God more like training than trying. A marathon runner doesn't get ready by pushing through one exhausting long run, but by small, steady steps over time. In the same way, your spiritual life grows through regular, gentle faithfulness, not by forcing yourself to keep going when your body and mind are simply done.

When that fatigue comes, it can help to notice it without judging yourself. If you are tired, it is okay to rest and come back later. You might try a shorter time in the Word at a moment when you are more rested, or change where you sit or how you read for a few days, just to give yourself a little freshness. Rest itself can be part of honoring how God made you.

We are praying for you to know His kindness in this season and to find a sustainable rhythm that fits you.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. You see their desire to draw near to You even when they feel tired. Grant them rest for body and mind, quiet the sense of guilt, and gently lead them day by day. Help them to hear Your care for them and to walk at a pace You give. In Jesus' name, amen.

To feel weary and worn while you seek the Lord in His Word is not to sin against Him. Our mortal nature must have its limits, and the body and mind will grow tired even in holy things. The Scripture itself acknowledges this and the Lord Jesus said to His own disciples, Come ye apart and rest a while, and the Psalmist tells us that He maketh us to lie down in green pastures and restoreth our soul. Your fatigue does not prove a lack of faith or devotion, but the frailty of the frame which God remembers and pities.

Hear the gracious invitation which is present rest, rest now, not rest after death or after long probation, but rest given when we come to Jesus, given there and then. He says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. It is a perfect rest too, rest about everything, rest at all times, rest in every part of your nature. You need not seek to earn it by reading more or praying more as a mere task, for rest for a soul is found in Jesus. Trust and you shall rest. When the heart learns of Him and takes His yoke upon it voluntarily, it finds a deep rest, a growing rest, an abiding rest, not only which you have found, but which you shall go on to find.

This rest is consistent with labour. It is not the rest of idleness, for lazy people cannot rest and never know what rest means. It is rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, with the yoke on, like birds that sleep upon the wing. Even so the believer labours for the Lord Jesus and yet rests, and keeps his course and knows no fatigue because Christ sustains him. And there remains also a fuller rest to come, a perfect rest when we shall be forever with Him, which shall be glory itself.

Therefore do not burden yourself with guilt over a normal human condition. Come to Him for rest as you are, weary and heavy laden, and He will give it. Take practical care of the body He has given you, seek needful sleep, pray simply for strength, and vary your study routine so that your mind may be refreshed. If you have lost for a season the enjoyment of that rest, return unto your rest, return unto Him who is your rest, and rest in the Lord Himself. May the Spirit bring you into such communion with Him that you find rest unto your soul even as you wait upon Him.

It is understandable to feel worn out even in the very things you love and know are good for your soul. Weariness of body and mind is not itself sin, and you should not carry false guilt for it. The Lord knows our frame and remembers that we are dust, and He is the one who makes us lie down in green pastures and restores our soul as Psalm 23 says. Christ himself said to his disciples, come apart and rest a while, and He still says, come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.

That invitation does not mean we abandon the field, but that we come to Him for strength to work it. In the passage you have heard, the Lord spoke of the harvest and said the fields are already white for harvest, and that the eyes to see this are both of the body and of the mind. When you are tired, both eyes grow dim. The body needs sleep and rest, and the mind needs renewal, so that you can again see the harvest set before you and have joy in gathering it. Your tiredness may be a simple sign that you need rest, a change of pace, or prayer for renewed strength, not a sign that your faith has failed.

So do not condemn yourself, but also do not neglect the gift. Seek a steady rhythm of rest, prayer, and the Word. Ask the Lord to refresh you, to lift the heaviness, and to give you delight again in hearing His voice. Vary your reading when needed, pray briefly and honestly even when you have little strength, and trust that He works even through weak and tired hands.

I will pray that God will grant you rest for your body, clarity for your mind, and a renewed desire for His Word, and that He will sustain you by His grace so that you may continue with joy and endurance in the work He has set before you.
