The Upper Forces
The Smoke of Their Torments
Mighty Power Which Creates and Sustains Faith
We hear the anguish in your words and we stand with you in this deep pit, taking your burden before the Lord together and seeking His will in Jesus name. We know that sin does bring us into darkness and bondage, and your honesty about the cause of your pit is the beginning of the path out of it. The scripture tells us the truth about our condition, for all have sinned, and fall short of the glory of God in Romans 3:23 and the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord in Romans 6:23.

Yet we want you to know there is hope and there is a way out, not by our own strength but by the mercy and forgiveness of God. He is the One who lifts us from the pit when we turn to Him with a repentant heart. Psalm 40:2 says He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. And 1 John 1:9 promises If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Psalm 103:12 also assures us As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently and lovingly want to share that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and can be forgiven and saved. There is no other way out of the pit of sin except through Him. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To be saved we must turn from our sins and turn to Him, believing that He died for our sins and that God raised Him from the dead. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

So we encourage you not to remain in hiding or in shame, but to confess fully to God what you have done, to repent which means to turn away from those sins and forsake them, and to place your complete faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. If you have not done so, cry out to Him today for forgiveness and for new life.

We pray together for you now. Father, we lift up this dear one who feels trapped in a deep pit because of sin. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would have mercy and pour out Your grace upon them. Lord, we confess that sin separates us from You and brings darkness, but we thank You that You are faithful to forgive when we confess. We ask that You forgive every sin, cleanse this heart from all unrighteousness, and lift them out of the miry clay and set their feet upon the rock which is Christ. Give them a godly sorrow that leads to true repentance and a new desire to walk in holiness and obedience to Your Word. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, with peace and assurance that their sins are removed, and restore to them the joy of Your salvation. Help them to walk in the light from this day forward and to seek fellowship and accountability among believers who can encourage them in the faith. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our deliverer, amen.

We encourage you to continue to call upon the Lord daily, to read His Word, and to walk in repentance. If you are caught in ongoing sin, we urge you to turn from it completely and to seek help from a faithful pastor or mature Christian believers who can walk with you. God does not desire for you to stay in the pit, He desires to forgive, to restore, and to give you life abundantly in Christ. Take hold of His promise in Isaiah 1:18 Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Thank you for being honest about being in a deep pit because of your sins. That is a heavy place to be, and we are glad you reached out instead of staying alone with it.

What you are feeling makes sense. When guilt has been sitting for a while it can start to feel like punishment itself is the only way forward, and that the heaviness you feel means you are still outside of mercy. In our experience, the decision to turn away from sin and turn back toward God and the slow easing of the feelings that come with it often happen on different timelines. You can honestly bring what you have done to God and ask for His mercy, and still need time for your heart to catch up and find rest again. Feeling low does not mean you are forgotten or beyond help.

You do not have to try to climb out by yourself. Isolation makes a pit feel deeper. If you have a pastor or another mature believer you trust, would you consider reaching out to one person in the next few days and simply telling them what you told us? Letting someone know where you are, face to face, can break that aloneness and give you support as you take next steps.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. You see this pit and the weight they are carrying. Have mercy, draw near, and help them turn fully toward You. Give them courage to reach out for help and to walk step by step in Your grace and truth. Bring healing and hope in the days ahead. Amen.

Me too! You're not alone👍

I am praying for this in Jesus name, amen.

It's a process but you will get there, have faith that he can free you

To be in a deep pit because of your sins is a sorrowful place, yet it is not a hopeless place. That very sense of sin, that depression of spirit because sin has outlawed you from your God, is often the way the Lord brings a soul to consider the ransom He has provided. Sin is indeed a great thing, and it needed a great sacrifice to put it away, even the pangs and death of a Substitute.

Take comfort that the forgiveness of sin is also a great thing, and it is according to the riches of His grace. God who delights in mercy has laid out a mint of grace to pardon sin. He takes all the bonds of our sin throughout our whole lifetime and puts them into the blaze of His infinite mercy, so that if they are searched for they cannot be found. There would never have been any repentance if there had never been any sin, and the love of the Great Shepherd toward wandering sheep would never have been so clearly revealed.

Hear the word which God has spoken concerning such a pit as yours, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance through a ransom if God had not thought of it Himself, and He has not only invented the way but He has found the ransom in His own Son. That is what looking to Christ means, to trust in His one great sacrifice, to believe that sin was punished upon the great Substitute and put away forever from all those who will only trust Him. If by faith you can believe in the sin forgiving God and accept the matchless atonement which covers all your guilt, then you are even now among the blessed.

Do not rest in a superficial repentance which only fears the consequences of sin. True repentance hates sin as sin and turns from it with purpose of heart. When the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile, and He makes you willing for all sin to go. Why should you hide your sin when the precious blood of Christ is ready to put it all away. Come with unfeigned repentance, confessing that you have no claim upon Him, and ask Him to cut from your heart the very love of sin and to create truth in the inward parts. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and you must look to your heavenly Father altogether and alone for both.

Your affliction in the pit may be the chastening of a Father's hand, not the punishment of a Judge. Chastisement is profitable and comes from love, while punishment is for the condemnation of sin which Christ has borne for His people. Look and live, even now, by trusting Christ. You shall be saved from yourself and from all the attacks of your old sins, for God has given commandment to save you. Then you shall not die but live and declare the works of the Lord.
