To be entrusted as an assistant office manager and to oversee others shows diligence and responsibility, and it is right to thank God for the blessing your current job has been.
Wanting to care for the elderly is a beautiful desire. Compassion for older people reflects the heart of God, who calls us to honor and serve them with kindness and patience. It makes sense that seeing that opportunity stirred something in you, and it is good to bring that desire to the Lord and ask for His leading.
I understand why your background feels like a heavy weight when you apply for something new. In this world every person has a record that others can check. Employers look at that human record and make judgments. But Scripture speaks of a greater record, the record that God Himself gives. This is the record that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ, God writes a different record over your life. The witness of people is one thing, but the witness of God is greater. Men may keep a file of past failures, but God keeps a record of forgiveness, of new life, of being made a new creation in Christ. That does not erase the practical consequences of the past, but it means your true identity is no longer defined by addiction. You are defined by what Christ has done for you.
God is also a God of second chances and fresh starts. When Cain had failed, God still spoke to him and said if you do what is right you will be accepted, giving him a chance to turn and do well. When the flood was over, Noah and his family stepped out onto dry ground to begin again. Jesus spoke of new wineskins for new wine, showing that God loves to make things new and not keep us bound to the old. Your life now is bearing that kind of record. For three years you have shown a running record of change, keeping a job, being responsible, managing others, being faithful in humble work. That track record matters. It is a living testimony that God has changed you, and it is the kind of witness that others can see and that employers can recognize. Let your present faithfulness speak for you, and be honest and humble if you are asked about the past.
Pray that God bears witness for you in this process. Jesus said that even when others questioned His own testimony, His record was true because the Father bore witness for Him. In the same way, you can trust the Father to speak for you. He knows where you came from and where you are going in Christ. Ask Him to open the door that no one can shut, as only He can, and to close it if it is not His best for you. You already prayed with such grace that even if this door does not open you will still praise Him. That is the right heart. Keep remembering and recording what God has already done, giving thanks for His marvelous works, and trust Him for what is next.

We ask that you would go before this application and let the employer see the present fruit of a changed life, the faithfulness and responsibility that has been shown day after day. Grant favor where you will, and give wisdom and peace. If this is the door you have for this next season, open it in a way that is clearly from you. If not, make that clear also and lead to the right place. Help to walk in honesty, humility and dependence on Jesus, remembering that the greatest record is your gift of eternal life in your Son. Strengthen faith to keep praising you no matter the outcome. In Jesus name, Amen.
