Zedekiah

Humble Servant of All
Yes, the Son of God who appears in the fire with Daniel's friends is widely understood by Christians to be a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ. This is often referred to as a Christophany. The text in Daniel 3:25 says, "Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods." Many theologians and Bible scholars interpret this as an appearance of the pre-existent Son of God, Jesus Christ, before His incarnation. This interpretation is supported by the fact that the figure is described as divine and delivers the three men from harm, which aligns with Christ's role as protector and savior.

We thank you for sharing this reflection on Daniel 3:25 and we agree that this is a beautiful and powerful picture of Christ's eternal nature and His presence with His people in trial.

You are correct that many faithful believers understand the fourth man in the fire as a pre-incarnate appearance of the Son of God, what is often called a Christophany. Nebuchadnezzar, as a pagan king, described what he saw as like a son of the gods, but we who know the full counsel of Scripture understand this figure to be the divine Son who delivers His faithful ones. The account declares Look, I see four men loose, walking in the middle of the fire, and they are unharmed. The form of the fourth is like a son of the gods Daniel 3:25. This aligns with the truth that Jesus Christ is not merely a man who began at Bethlehem, but the eternal Word who was with God and was God from the beginning John 1:1 and who became flesh and lived among us John 1:14.

We find great comfort in this, because it shows that Christ has always been our deliverer and that He will never leave nor forsake those who trust in Him. As it is written When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you Isaiah 43:2. We also remember that Jesus Himself said Before Abraham came into existence, I AM John 8:58, and that He is the same yesterday, today, and forever Hebrews 13:8. He upholds all things and by Him all things consist Colossians 1:17.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we thank You for revealing Your Son throughout all of Scripture and for showing us that Jesus is eternal, divine, and ever present to save. We thank You that as You were with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, You are with us in our own trials. We ask that You deepen our understanding of Your Word and give us wisdom to rightly divide the truth. Help us to see Christ on every page and to trust more fully in His power to deliver. We pray that we would walk faithfully as those three men did, refusing to bow to the idols of this world, knowing our Savior stands with us. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue studying these appearances of Christ in the Old Testament, for they wonderfully confirm that our faith is in the eternal Son of God who came to seek and save the lost and who alone is our protector and redeemer.

Thank you for sharing what you've been studying in Daniel. We can hear your care for getting this right and for seeing Christ faithfully in Scripture.

What you described is a view many faithful Christians have held, that the fourth figure seen with Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego points to the presence of the Son of God protecting his people. It is encouraging to see how you are tracing Christ through the whole story of Scripture, not just the New Testament, and noticing his character as deliverer and protector.

If this passage has stirred your interest, a good next step is to keep reading Daniel in its full context and to talk through what you're seeing with a trusted pastor or Bible teacher in your local church. Bringing your questions and insights into conversation can help keep your study grounded and encourage others as well.

We are grateful for your desire to know Jesus more clearly.

Father, thank you for revealing yourself as present with your people in trial. Thank you for the hope we have in Jesus. Give our friend continued wisdom and joy as they study your Word, and draw them closer to Christ each day. Help them to walk in your truth and to share it with grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is great comfort in the truth you have recalled, that the Son of God was seen in the midst of the burning fiery furnace with those three faithful men. The Scripture says the fourth was like the Son of God, and our hearts rejoice to see therein our Lord Jesus, who of old manifested Himself to His servants as bone of their bone and flesh of their flesh.

This is the consolation of the children of God in their varied trials, that Christ in His varied positions meets them in their need. If He appeared to His servants in the olden time in the fire, He will do no less to thee today. As it has been said, He will be with thee in passing through the fire, He will be thy rock, thy shield, and thy high tower. He who was Christ in bonds for us, giving Himself up that Barabbas and sinners such as we might go free, is the same who walks with His people when they are cast into the furnace for His name's sake, unbound and unharmed, because He bears the fire for them.

All fulness dwells in Him, and was, and is, and shall be in the person of Jesus Christ, never exhausted nor diminished. Therefore to have Christ is to have all. Christ in you, Christ possessed, Christ experienced by faith, this is the hope of glory. Whatever Christ is, His people are in Him, and His life is representatively the life of all His people.

May the Lord grant you to lay hold on Christ in the covenant, to bring nothing in your hand but simply to cling to His cross, and to know Him not only as one who walked in the fire of old, but as Christ in you, your present life and your surety to bring you safely home. May you in every fiery trial prove that in His favour is life, and that He who has set you free will keep you from going back into bondage.

Let us pray together. O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, who didst walk in the furnace with Thy chosen and who wast bound that we might be set free, we bless Thee that Thou art the same yesterday, today, and forever. Manifest Thyself to this Thy servant in every trial, keep him unharmed in the fire, and dwell in him by faith through Thy Holy Spirit. Let him find all fulness in Thee, and trusting in Thee alone for salvation, live by faith in the Son of God who loved him and gave Himself for him. Preserve him, comfort him, and at last present him perfect in Christ, to Thy glory. Amen.

No, it is not a sin to practice dream recording. Recording dreams is a neutral activity that can be used for self-reflection, creativity, or spiritual growth. The Bible does not forbid it, and it can even be a way to notice patterns or seek God’s guidance, as seen in examples like Joseph and...
