I have heard standers say that if God does not restore, they will kill themselves. Or in cases where the stander feels it has gone on too long and they just want to kill themselves. Or if God does not restore it was all for nothing. All of these kinds of feelings are actually making the spouse and the restoration more important than God, our walk and growth with God. People who are totally God-centered and balanced, do not say things like this because no matter what the outcome they feel grateful for their relationship with God, what they have gained in God, and God is the most important to them in this. They have much to go on for despite losing the spouse, like serving God and knowing that God is good and will reward them in some way that is best for them. If everything is based on the restoration and only that, how we are going to feel about going on, how we feel about God, etc., then we are making the spouse and the restoration greater than God and actually idol worshiping it.
God needs us to get to the place where it is all about Him and Him only. God can do absolutely anything in the blink of an eye. If it was just about restoring a marriage and that was all, God could just snap His finger and your spouse would be back and your marriage restored. We come into the trial by fire because He needs to get us in a place where there is nothing but Him to lean on. Where we are totally dependent on Him and no one or nothing else, to give us our greatest heart's desire. It only comes via Him. In that place His purpose is to make Himself our only. To bring us into such a close bond with Him, that nothing else matters but Him.
That we would give up anything and anyone for God, that is where He wants you to be. That is why some are such strong standers and do not waiver in the battle. When you wonder how a stander can seem to be so strong regardless of anything that happens, it is because they have reached that place in God. It makes sense, because if you reach a place where your relationship with God is the most important thing of all things, then everything else pales in comparison to God. It is no longer so important and imperative that it happen. You are content no matter how it goes, because you have God and that is all you need and you know that no matter what you will be very blessed with God. The blessing no longer has to be your marriage, the blessing is actually being that close with God.
It is hard to explain, but I think about it being like you are standing there with God, and your spouse is standing over in the distance, and while God is trying to get you to focus just on Him, you just keep looking over at your spouse. You are more focused on your spouse than God. So you may want to examine if this is going on with yourself, because it will hinder and delay things.
