I would like to be married and to have children

We hear your deep longing for marriage and family, and we understand the ache in your heart for reconciliation with your former boyfriend. The desire for companionship and children is a God-given one, placed within us to reflect His love and the beauty of covenant relationships. However, we must approach this matter with wisdom, discernment, and a heart aligned with Scripture.

First, we must address the foundation of any relationship seeking God’s blessing. Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s relationship with His Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). It is meant to be a lifelong commitment, entered into with purity, wisdom, and godly intention. If your past relationship with this man involved sexual intimacy outside of marriage, we must call that what Scripture calls it: fornication. The Word of God is clear that sexual immorality is sin and separates us from the holiness God desires for His children (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). If this was the case, we urge you to repent before the Lord, seek His forgiveness, and allow Him to cleanse your heart and mind. True healing and restoration can only come when we align our lives with God’s standards.

We also must ask: Does this man share your faith in Jesus Christ? The Bible is explicit that believers are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers (2 Corinthians 6:14). Marriage is not merely about emotional connection or shared history; it is about walking together in faith, encouraging one another in godliness, and raising children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). If he does not know Christ as his Savior, your first prayer should not be for reconciliation, but for his salvation. Only then can a relationship be built on the solid rock of shared faith.

If he is a believer, we must still seek the Lord’s will with humility. Two years is a significant time of separation, and much can change in a person’s heart, walk with God, and circumstances. Have you both grown in your relationship with the Lord during this time? Have you sought godly counsel to understand why the relationship ended and whether reconciliation is truly God’s will? Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding. We must surrender our desires to Him and ask for His guidance, even if it means letting go of what we once held dear.

We also encourage you to examine your motives. Are you seeking this man because you genuinely believe God is leading you back together, or are you longing for the comfort and familiarity of the past? Are you willing to accept that God’s plan for your life may look different than what you envisioned? The Lord often closes doors to protect us, guide us, or prepare us for something greater. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us that God’s plans for us are for good, not for harm, to give us a future and a hope. We must trust that His timing and His ways are perfect, even when they don’t align with our own.

If you have not already, we urge you to bring this matter before the Lord in prayer, fasting, and seeking wise, biblical counsel. Surround yourself with godly men and women who can speak truth into your life and help you discern God’s will. Psalm 37:4 tells us to delight ourselves in the Lord, and He will give us the desires of our hearts. When our hearts are aligned with His, our desires begin to reflect His will.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this dear sister who longs for marriage and family. Lord, You know the desires of her heart, and we ask that You would align them with Your perfect will. Father, if it is Your plan for her to be reconciled with this man, we pray that You would pave the way with wisdom, purity, and godly intention. If there has been any sin in their past, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing, that they may start anew on a foundation of holiness and truth.

Lord, we pray for this man, that if he does not know You, he would come to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. If he is a believer, we ask that You would draw him closer to You and prepare his heart for the responsibilities of marriage and fatherhood. Father, we also ask that You would guard this sister’s heart from idolatry, from placing her desire for marriage above her love for You. Help her to trust in Your timing and Your plans, knowing that You are good and faithful.

If it is not Your will for them to be together, Lord, we ask that You would give her peace and contentment in You. Help her to see that her worth and identity are found in Christ alone, not in her marital status. Prepare her heart for the spouse You have for her, a man who loves You above all else and who will lead their family in godliness. Until that time, fill her with Your joy, Your purpose, and Your presence.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who holds all things together. May Your will be done in this sister’s life, and may she find her ultimate satisfaction in You. Amen.

In the meantime, we encourage you to focus on growing in your relationship with the Lord. Seek His face daily through prayer and the study of His Word. Serve in your local church and surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and encourage you. As you draw near to God, He will draw near to you (James 4:8), and in His presence, you will find the fulfillment that no earthly relationship can provide.

Remember, the Lord is your heavenly Bridegroom, and He loves you with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3). He knows the plans He has for you, and they are plans for good. Trust in Him, and He will direct your paths.

We're right there with you, sister, longing for the same things you do - a loving marriage and a family to call our own. It's beautiful to see God's desire for companionship reflected in your heart. Let's approach this together, seeking His will above all else.

First, let's lay a solid foundation. Marriage is a sacred covenant, designed by God to reflect Christ's love for His Church. It's meant to be a lifelong commitment, entered into with purity, wisdom, and godly intention. If your past relationship involved intimacy outside of marriage, it's important to acknowledge that as sin and seek God's forgiveness. He's faithful to cleanse and heal, and true restoration comes from aligning our lives with His standards.

Next, we need to ask if this man shares your faith in Jesus Christ. A marriage isn't just about emotional connection or shared history; it's about walking together in faith, encouraging each other in godliness, and raising children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. If he doesn't know Christ, your first prayer should be for his salvation.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
