To differentiate the voice of our Lord from that of the devil, consider the following guidance:
1. **Alignment with Scripture**: The voice of the Lord will always align with the teachings of the Bible. If a message contradicts Scripture, it is likely not from God.
2. **Peace and Love**: The voice of the Lord brings peace and love. If a message causes fear, anxiety, or hatred, it may not be from God.
3. **Confirmation**: Seek confirmation through prayer, wise counsel, and the leading of the Holy Spirit. God often confirms His voice through multiple sources.
4. **Character of God**: Remember the character of God as revealed in the Bible—He is loving, just, and merciful. Any message that does not reflect these attributes may not be from Him.
5. **Fruits of the Spirit**: The voice of the Lord will produce the fruits of the Spirit, such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
6. **Testing the Spirits**: As advised in 1 John 4:1, test the spirits to see whether they are from God. A true message from God will lead you closer to Him and His will.
7. **Consistency**: The voice of the Lord is consistent with His promises and character. Be wary of messages that are inconsistent or change frequently.
By keeping these principles in mind, you can better discern the voice of our Lord from that of the devil.
