I want the ability to care to be removed from me permanently

I just want the ability to care for others to be removed from me and this has to be something that should be permanent cause I'm just done

We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your words, and our hearts ache with you. The desire to stop caring, to shut off the well of compassion within you, is not a sign of weakness but of profound weariness. Yet we must gently but firmly rebuke this request, for it runs contrary to the very nature of God, who is love (1 John 4:8), and who calls us to reflect His heart in this world.

Caring for others is not a burden to be discarded but a sacred calling. Jesus Himself said, "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12). The ability to care is not a curse, it is a gift, even when it feels heavy. To ask for it to be removed is to ask for a part of your humanity, your Christlikeness, to be stripped away. That is not God’s will for you.

We must also address the root of this cry. What has led you to this place of despair? Have you been wounded by those you’ve cared for? Have you poured yourself out without receiving care in return? Have you taken on burdens that were never yours to carry? The enemy would love for you to believe that caring is futile, that love is weakness, and that isolation is the only refuge. But Scripture declares, "Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up" (Galatians 6:9). Your labor in love is not in vain.

We also must ask: Have you surrendered your weariness to the Lord? Jesus invites you, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). He does not call you to carry this alone. Have you brought your exhaustion to Him in prayer? Have you allowed others to care for you? The body of Christ is meant to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and you are not meant to be a lone soldier in this battle.

And so, with great compassion, we pray for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is weary and heavy-laden. Lord, we ask that You would meet them in this place of pain and exhaustion. You see the weight they carry, the love they have poured out, and the wounds they have endured. We ask that You would heal their heart, renew their strength, and remind them that their care for others is a reflection of Your love.

Father, we rebuke the lie that caring is a burden to be discarded. We declare that Your love is perfect, and it casts out fear (1 John 4:18). We ask that You would restore their hope and remind them that their labor in love is not in vain. Surround them with Your presence, Lord, and let them feel Your arms carrying them when they cannot carry themselves.

We pray that You would bring people into their life who will care for them as they have cared for others. Give them the wisdom to set boundaries, the courage to ask for help, and the faith to believe that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). Renew their mind, Lord, and let them see themselves and their calling through Your eyes.

And Lord, if there is unconfessed sin, bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness, we ask that You would bring it to light and grant them the grace to release it. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10).

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who carried the ultimate burden of love for us all. Amen.

Do not lose heart, dear one. The world needs your care, even if it doesn’t always deserve it. But more than that, you need the care of the One who loved you first. Turn to Him. Let Him hold you. And trust that He will not waste your pain but will use it to shape you into a vessel of His love in ways you cannot yet imagine. You are not alone.

We hear how tired you are in what you wrote, and how heavy caring for others has felt. Wanting that ability taken away permanently makes sense when you are just done and don't see another way to get relief. It is not that you are a cold person, it is that carrying so much for so long can leave anyone empty.

There are times when even the most compassionate people get overwhelmed by the constant demands of caring. It can build up until the only thing that sounds restful is to not feel at all. That feeling is often a sign of deep exhaustion, not a permanent flaw in you, and shutting down completely usually brings more pain, not the peace you are hoping for.

We would encourage you not to sit with this alone. Would you consider reaching out today to one safe person, a pastor, counselor, or your doctor, and letting them know exactly what you shared here, that you feel done and want the caring removed. If you have been feeling low most days or sleeping or appetite has changed, talking with a doctor or counselor alongside prayer can be an important next step.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift this dear one to You who sees how weary they are. You know the weight they have carried and how much they want relief. Please bring rest, surround them with caring support, and give them wisdom for next steps. Show them they are not alone and guide them toward healing. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is a deep weariness in your words, and it is heard with sorrow and with prayer. To be so pressed and disappointed that you would ask to feel no more, to wish that caring itself might be taken away permanently, is a sign not of a cold heart but of a heart that has cared much and is now exhausted.

Yet I cannot ask the Lord to do as you have asked, for it would not be for your good, nor for the good of souls around you. A Christian without compassion has missed a very vital part of the Christian character. A hard hearted Christian is a complete contradiction. The whole tenor and spirit of the gospel influences us to compassion. Ye are debtors, for what were ye if compassion had not come to your rescue. Divine compassion, all undeserved and free, has redeemed us, and shall heaven compassionate and shall not those who have received mercy send back the echo of compassion.

Our Lord Jesus is the pattern and the source of that compassion. It is said of Him again and again that He was moved with compassion. He was moved with compassion for the multitude, for the ignorant and for them that are out of the way, for those who were as sheep without a shepherd. He gave up all comfort, He gave His life itself, He gave His very Self to prove that He was moved with compassion. And that same High Priest now lives to have compassion upon you in your ignorance and weariness and in your sense of being out of the way. He can have compassion on the ignorant and on them that are out of the way, and He is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. If you feel odd, alone, and not in the common run of people, He can have compassion upon such, and deal with you individually and by Himself.

The temptation you feel, to shut up the sluices of the soul and to care no more, is one that compassion must fight against. It whispers, what can I do, of what use can I be, the burden is too great. But the answer is not to become hard. The answer is to bring the matter which distresses you before the living, powerful, interposing Saviour, and He will deal with it according to His compassion. He does not despise your weakness with indignation, He is moved with compassion toward it.

To have compassion does not mean to carry all the sorrow of the world in your own strength until you break. It means to let Christ carry you while you love others in His strength. Now is the time to have your compassion kept in exercise, not by your own resolve, but by His mercy renewed in you day by day. The more trouble it costs you to bring a soul to Christ, the greater will be your reward, but the power to do it must come from Him who first loved you when you were heir of wrath and without hope.

So my prayer for you is not that caring would be removed, but that you would be restored and refreshed. May the Lord give you rest, lift the crushing weight you feel, heal the disappointments that have made you say I am done, and fill you again with His tenderheartedness. May He show you His own compassion so plentifully and practically that you are able again to have compassion on others, not from a dry well within yourself, but from the river of His mercy flowing through you.

If this weariness remains heavy, do not bear it alone. Seek a faithful pastor, a trusted believer, or a counselor who can walk with you, pray with you, and help you find rest and wise bounds in your caring. You are not forgotten. Christ has compassion upon you even now, and He is able to keep you and to make your heart tender again without being torn apart.

May He grant you quietness, renewed strength, and a heart that, because it has been so compassionately dealt with, can still pity and love, to His glory.

Your words show how tired and heavy you feel, as if caring itself has become a burden you no longer want to carry and you wish it could be taken away permanently. I hear how done you feel, and I want to answer you with honesty and care rather than simply agreeing to pray for what you have asked.

The desire to stop caring often comes from being worn down by hurt, disappointment or exhaustion, not from a true wish to become hard hearted. Scripture does not teach us to ask God to remove compassion from us, but shows us that compassion is part of how He made us and how He restores us. We are called to put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience, and to bear with and forgive one another as Christ forgave us. To ask for that heart to be permanently removed would be to ask God to take away something He intends for good, even when it feels painful now.

Instead, the comfort held out to us is that we have a merciful and faithful High Priest in Jesus Christ. He took on our flesh not from distance but from love, because He saw us cast down and perishing and had compassion on us. He knows what it is to be weary and He does not despise that weariness. He offers reconciliation and mercy, not numbness. When caring feels like it will crush you, He invites you to bring that very exhaustion to Him for rest and renewal, not for the removal of your heart.

So my prayer for you will not be that God would take away your ability to care permanently, because that would not lead to life or healing. My prayer is that God would give you rest where you are exhausted, healing where you have been wounded, and wisdom to set healthy boundaries where you have been carrying more than you can bear. I pray that He would renew a right and tender heart within you, guard you from bitterness, and show you that you do not have to carry every burden alone.

God calls us to pray at all seasons and to keep praying without ceasing, not only in moments of strength but in weariness. Like the widow who kept coming and like the Syrophoenician woman who kept seeking the Lord's compassion, you are invited to keep bringing your honest weariness to Him, trusting that His mercy is not slow and His compassion does not fail. Please do not walk through this feeling of being done alone. Reach out to a trusted pastor, a mature believer, or a counselor who can walk with you, listen well, and help you find rest and support in the days ahead. If you feel unsafe with your thoughts, please reach out right away to someone near you or to a trusted help line in your area.

May the Lord, who is full of tender mercies and compassion, meet you in this tired place, lift the weight you were never meant to carry alone, and gently restore your heart to care again from a place of strength and hope in Christ.
