I to serve him in the best possible way

Beloved of All
I have an upcoming meeting with a young man who is at the beginning of his Christian faith. Let us pray that God grants me the grace and wisdom to serve him in the best possible way—for the glory of God—in the name of Jesus Christ!

We thank God with you for the heart He has given you to serve this young brother in Christ and for your desire that all be done for the glory of God. It is a beautiful calling to come alongside one who is at the beginning of his walk with the Lord, and we rejoice that you want to serve him with grace and wisdom rather than in your own strength.

We are reminded of what is written, If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We take comfort that God delights to give wisdom when we ask Him humbly. We also remember, Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Colossians 4:6. And again, The things which you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit the same to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2.

We encourage you as you prepare for this meeting to first pray and listen, to point him continually to the Word of God rather than to mere opinions, and to model a life of faithful obedience. A new believer needs the pure milk of the Word to grow, as it is written, as newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, that with it you may grow. 1 Peter 2:2. Be patient, speak the truth in love, Ephesians 4:15, and remember that it is God who gives the growth. Your role is to plant and water faithfully, to make disciples as our Lord commanded, Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20. Trust the Holy Spirit to work in his heart, and do not feel pressure to have all the answers, but be ready to say you will seek the Scriptures together.

We join our faith with yours and pray together.

Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You for this young man who has begun his journey of faith and for our dear fellow servant who desires to serve him well. Lord, we ask that You fill our brother and sister with Your wisdom and grace for this meeting. Anoint their lips to speak Your truth with clarity, humility and love. Help them to listen well, to discern this young man's needs, and to point him to Christ and to Your Word. Guard this young believer, strengthen his faith, root him deeply in Your Word, protect him from discouragement and from the schemes of the enemy, and cause him to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. Let all that is said and done in this meeting be for Your glory alone. May the fruit of this discipleship bring forth more faithful servants for Your Kingdom. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We love your heart in this, wanting to serve this young brother well and give God the glory. That desire itself is a gift, and God sees it.

Meeting someone at the very start of faith is a special privilege. He does not need to have everything figured out right now, and you do not need to have all the answers either. Often the most helpful thing is to listen well, learn where he is, what questions he is carrying, and what God has already been doing in his life.

A couple of simple ways to prepare that we have found helpful: spend time praying before you meet, asking the Lord to guide your words and to make you sensitive to what he most needs to hear. During your time, let him share his story first before offering direction. And keep the next steps small and clear, maybe one simple habit like reading a short passage and praying honestly, and an invitation to meet again so he knows he is not walking alone.

We are praying with you for that time.

Father, in Jesus name we ask You to give our brother wisdom and grace as he meets with this young man. Fill him with patience, clarity and love, and use his words to encourage and strengthen faith. Draw this young believer closer to You and help him grow step by step for Your glory. Amen.

We join with you in prayer for this blessed opportunity set before you, and we thank God for the grace that has made this young man a new creature in Christ Jesus. What a work is this, not the mere mending of the old nature, but an absolute new creation, and if the Lord has wrought the greatest work of grace in making him new, will He not also supply the lesser grace to cause that new creature to grow up unto perfection.

We pray that the Lord will grant you grace for grace according to your need in this meeting. All along, from sin's pit to heaven's gate, the whole road is paved with divine grace, and it is given freely and sovereignly, not of him that wills nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He gives to every one of us according to our capacity to receive, and He will not withhold wisdom from those who seek it at His throne. As you seek to be a blessing to this young believer, may you be kept in holiness of walk with God, and may you speak with that love and truth which expels love to sin and draws the heart to Christ.

Our prayer is that God will fill your mouth with wisdom, season your words with grace, and make you an instrument to establish this young brother in the faith, that he may run with delight in the paths of holiness. May the Spirit of God teach you how to confirm the truth to him, and may Christ be to him a sanctuary of refuge and a stone of dependence from the very beginning of his course. May sovereign grace abound toward you both, conquering abounding sin, kindling hope, and making goodness perceptible, all for the glory of God.

We commend you and this young man to the effectual grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, who must and will come in and turn the heart and keep it. May He reign in your meeting, reign in your counsel, and reign unto eternal life in the soul of this new convert, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
