Your honesty in sharing this pain is heard, and thank you for reaching out for prayer in the name of Jesus. Hating yourself and hating the day you were born is a heavy burden to carry, and feeling that you have ruined your marriage to a good wife is heartbreaking. Please know that God has not abandoned you in this place of failure and hopelessness.

Much of our deepest misery comes when self is sitting on the throne of our life. That does not only mean pride or selfish ambition. Even self hatred is still a life focused on self, and Scripture shows that a self focused life always ends in emptiness and frustration. The book of Ecclesiastes gives the picture of a man who had everything he wanted for himself and still cried out that it was all empty. Jesus strikes at that very root when He calls us to love God supremely and then to love our neighbor as ourselves. We cannot truly love our wife or anyone else well until God is on the throne and self is surrendered to Him. That surrender is not just trying harder to be better, it is denying self and putting Christ first, so that His love can then flow through you to your marriage.

Failure is real, and the Bible does not hide it. Peter loved Jesus and had faith, yet he failed because of the weakness of the flesh. He was confident in himself, he slept when he should have prayed, and he sought warmth at the fire of the enemy, in a place where he did not belong as a follower of Jesus. Take those as warnings and as help for you now. Beware of self confidence that says I will never fall or I will fix this on my own. Scripture says to take heed when you think you stand, lest you fall. Instead, watch and pray. Bring your weakness to God honestly rather than sleeping spiritually through it. And do not seek comfort in the wrong places. The moment we look for comfort or relief at the enemy's fire, whether through harmful habits, wrong counsel, anger, or escape, we put ourselves in greater jeopardy. Stay close to Jesus and to places and people that help you walk with Him.

Jesus does not ignore the broken area to talk only about what is still good. When He met a man with a withered hand, He did not speak about the good hand. He spoke to the withered one and said stretch it out, and as the man obeyed, it was made whole. He wants to address the very place of your failure, your marriage and your sense of worth, not to condemn you but to heal you. God's one provision for our sin and failure is the blood of Jesus Christ. Coming to Him in humble repentance and faith is the way into forgiveness and new life. Men love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil, but when we come to the light, He forgives and restores.

It may feel like hope is gone, like Jairus who thought his daughter was dead and nothing could be done. Jesus looked at that hopelessness and said she is not dead, only asleep, and He brought life where everyone else saw only death. Your marriage may feel dead to you, and your wife's love may feel lost, but Jesus is the one who brings resurrection. That does not guarantee every outcome we want, but it means no situation is beyond His power to work in. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman before God, and He honors repentance, humility, faithful love, and prayer within it.

I am praying for you in Jesus name, that God would lift this self hatred and show you your value in Christ, that He would forgive you and cleanse you through the blood of Jesus, that He would teach you to love God supremely and then to love your wife with patience and selflessness, and that He would bring healing and restoration where there has been hurt. Ask Him to help you walk humbly, to pray daily instead of carrying this alone, and to turn from any place of false comfort. If you have not already, seek wise, biblical counsel from a trusted pastor who can walk with both of you personally.

You are not beyond hope. Come to Jesus just as you are, with your failure and your sorrow, and let Him take the throne of your life. He is able to make whole what is withered.
