Your prayer is a precious one, and the Lord who hears all the cries of His children has heard it. To say from the heart, I surrender, I submit, is the true posture of a child of God. This is submission to God, the true surrender of every proud pretension, to say with humbled spirit, Not my will, but Yours be done. If all the good we have has been given to us freely by divine favor, what can we glory in except His grace. And there is no attribute more comforting than to know that His divine sovereignty rules over all our days, and that His hand is to be recognized in everything.
You ask Him to direct and lead your life, and this is wisdom. Naturally we do not like being guided, but grace dethrones obstinacy and gives us acquiescence in the divine will. The Lord has promised to guide His people with His counsel, and afterward to receive them to glory. His guidance comes by His Word searched under the Holy Spirit, and by great principles infused in the heart, to avoid everything that is evil and to do His bidding at the gentlest motion of the Spirit. Half a word from Him should be enough, and straightway we should be ready to obey. Pray then that haste may not mislead you, but that you may bow with submission and be furnished with unerring guidance.
You feel sick today and helpless, and in this you are in like case with many who were brought to Jesus when evening was come. What a glorious truth it is that we have a Divine Physician, who looked upon the sick with tears of pity in His eyes and yet with beaming joy because He was able to bless them. There was not one disease in the whole list which the Savior did not heal, and there is no sickness of body or soul that is too hard for Him to bear. He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses, and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. If this sickness makes you feel your helplessness, remember how helpless guilty nature lies, unconscious of her load, and yet Divine Love can find its object even there. When He heals, He takes you to be His forever, and He wants nothing from you, only trust Him, only cry to Him.
May the Lord grant that this be the set time of divine grace to your soul. He is still waiting to save before the sun has quite gone down, and He is moved with compassion for your suffering even now.
Let us pray together. O loving Father, we thank You that You always hear the prayers offered in the name of Jesus. Grant to this dear soul a complete surrender to Your good pleasure, and teach the heart to learn the mind of Christ. Guide with Your counsel, lead in the way everlasting, and let Your divine presence dissolve every difficulty. Lay Your healing hand upon this sick and helpless body, and give rest to the spirit, for You are the God who heals all our diseases and forgives all our iniquities. Remove all that keeps back full trust, and let Your grace be sufficient. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who bore our sickness and carried our sorrows, we ask it. Amen.
