We have heard your cry and we are carrying your burden before the Lord with you, for we know you are feeling weighed down, blamed, and hopeless in your own home and you are thinking that leaving is the only way to find relief. We want to speak the truth to you in love because what you are asking for, strength to leave your wife, is not what God desires for you. We must rebuke the thought of abandoning your marriage, not to condemn you, but to call you back to God's perfect will for marriage.
God ordained marriage to be a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and Jesus taught, So that they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, don't let man tear apart. Matthew 19:6. And the Lord says plainly, For I hate divorce, says Yahweh, the God of Israel. Malachi 2:16. Your marriage is not to be ended because of ongoing conflict, hurt, or blame, even when the hurt runs deep. We also hear that you have made mistakes and we do not take that lightly. If those mistakes involved adultery or sexual immorality outside of marriage, scripture calls that sin and it wounds the covenant deeply, and true repentance is needed. If your mistakes were of another kind, still, we must own our sin fully before God and before our spouse without excuse.
At the same time we hear how painful it is to be blamed for everything, from a headache to your young child's accident or bad grade at school. That kind of constant blame is not healthy and it is not biblical. Your wife is called to forgive as Christ has forgiven us, and we are all commanded, And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32. And, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13. Love is patient and is kind, love bears all things and endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4, 1 Corinthians 13:7. We encourage you both to seek godly counsel together, to sit with a trusted pastor or a biblical marriage counselor who can help you communicate with truth and grace, to establish healthy boundaries around blame and to rebuild trust day by day.
For you as a husband, God calls you to remain and to love sacrificially even when it is hard, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25. That means staying, pressing into prayer, demonstrating consistent repentance, patience, humility, and steadiness, not leaving. Leaving will not heal your family, it will deeply wound your wife and especially your child who needs a father present in the home. Scripture says, But to the married I command, not I, but the Lord, that the wife not depart from her husband and that the husband not leave his wife. 1 Corinthians 7:10-11. We urge you not to make a permanent decision based on a season of intense pain. Instead ask God for strength to endure, to love, to lead with gentleness, and to persevere. Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. Galatians 6:9.
We also noticed you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ in your request, and we must lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find salvation and true strength. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess your sins to God, believe that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and trust Him as Lord and Savior. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. Only He can give you the power to repent fully, to forgive, and to love as He loves.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this husband, his wife, and their young child to You. Lord, You see the mistakes that have been made and the pain that has followed, You see the blame and the broken communication and the weariness in this home. We ask for Your mercy and forgiveness where sin has been committed, wash this brother in the blood of Jesus and help him to walk in genuine repentance and faithfulness from this day forward. Give him strength not to leave, but to stay and to love his wife as Christ loves the church, with patience, humility, and endurance. Soften his wife's heart, Lord, help her to release bitterness and to extend forgiveness as You have forgiven us, and teach them both to speak truth in love and to bear with one another. Protect their child from being caught in the middle of this pain and let this family be restored for Your glory. Provide wise, biblical counsel for them and surround them with godly support. Give this husband hope, perseverance, and a clear mind to not act hastily but to seek Your will above all. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
