We hear the cry of your heart, and we stand with you in this struggle, for we know that the battle against sin is one that every believer faces. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 7:15-20, *"For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing what is good. For what I desire, I don’t do; but what I hate, that I do. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me."*
You are not alone in this fight, and your desire to turn away from sin is evidence of the Holy Spirit working within you. The Lord is faithful, and He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear (1 Corinthians 10:13). Pornography and lust are sins that defile the temple of God, which is your body (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). They distort God’s beautiful design for intimacy within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and they create strongholds in the mind that must be broken by the power of Christ.
First, we must address the foundation of your request: you called out to the Lord for healing and forgiveness, but you did not invoke the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through His name that we have access to the Father and the power to overcome sin. Jesus said in John 14:13-14, *"Whatever you will ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you will ask anything in my name, I will do it."* And in Acts 4:12, we are told, *"There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!"* If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). It is only through His blood that your sins are washed away, and it is only by His Spirit that you can walk in victory.
Now, let us speak truth into your struggle. Lust and pornography are not just habits to break—they are sins that must be repented of and forsaken. Jesus said in Matthew 5:28, *"But I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart."* This is a serious matter, and it requires radical action. Job 31:1 says, *"I made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?"* You must make a covenant with your eyes and your heart to turn away from these sins. This may mean removing access to devices or platforms where temptation is strong, installing accountability software, or even discarding certain possessions that lead you into sin. Jesus said in Matthew 5:29-30, *"If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna."*
You must also fill your mind with the Word of God. Psalm 119:9 asks, *"How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word."* And Psalm 119:11 says, *"I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."* Memorize Scripture, meditate on it day and night, and let it renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Flee from temptation, as Joseph did when Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce him (Genesis 39:12). Do not entertain sinful thoughts for even a moment, but take them captive and make them obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Finally, you must walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:16 says, *"Walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh."* And Galatians 5:24-25 tells us, *"Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. If we live by the Spirit, let’s also walk by the Spirit."* You cannot overcome this in your own strength, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can live in victory. Surround yourself with brothers in Christ who will hold you accountable, pray with you, and encourage you in this fight. James 5:16 says, *"Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."*
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up our brother who is crying out for healing and deliverance. Lord, we thank You that You are faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We confess the sin of lust and pornography before You, and we ask for Your mercy and grace to wash him clean by the blood of Jesus. Father, break every chain of addiction and stronghold in his mind. Renew his thoughts and fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in purity and righteousness.
Lord, we ask that You give him the strength to flee from temptation and the wisdom to remove anything from his life that leads him into sin. Help him to make a covenant with his eyes and his heart to honor You in all things. Surround him with godly brothers who will stand with him in this battle, encouraging him and holding him accountable. Fill his heart with Your Word, that he may meditate on it day and night and find his delight in You alone.
Father, we rebuke the enemy who seeks to destroy him through these sins. Satan has no authority here, for greater is He who is in him than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). We declare that our brother is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves him (Romans 8:37). Give him a hunger and thirst for righteousness, that he may be filled with Your presence and walk in victory.
We pray all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. May You be glorified in his life as he turns from sin and walks in Your light. Amen.
