We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this situation to Him in prayer. Father God, we know that You are a God of reconciliation, and Your Word tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, "But all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Jesus Christ, and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation; namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation." Lord, we pray that You would work mightily in the hearts of this couple as they meet today. Soften their hearts toward one another, help them to see their own faults, and grant them the humility to ask for and extend forgiveness.
We must also address the seriousness of their commitment before You, Lord. Marriage is a sacred covenant, not to be entered into lightly, and we pray that they both understand the gravity of this union. Your Word is clear in Hebrews 13:4, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers." If there has been any sexual immorality or fornication in their relationship, we ask for Your conviction and repentance. Forgiveness is possible through Christ, but it must be accompanied by a turning away from sin and a commitment to purity moving forward.
Lord, we also pray that their relationship would be rooted in You. Amos 3:3 asks, "Do two walk together, unless they have agreed?" We pray that they would agree on the foundational truths of Your Word and that their marriage would be built on the rock of Christ. If they are not both believers, we pray for the salvation of the one who does not know You, for Your Word says in 2 Corinthians 6:14, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?"
Father, we ask that You would guide their conversation today. Give them the words to say, the humility to listen, and the wisdom to discern Your will. Help them to lay down their pride, their hurts, and their desires at Your feet, seeking only what You have for them. May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
We also lift up this daughter to You, Lord. Strengthen her faith, remind her of Your love, and help her to trust in Your plan for her life. If this reconciliation is not in Your will, give her the grace to accept that and the strength to move forward in faith. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths."
Finally, Lord, we pray that whatever the outcome of this meeting, it would bring glory to Your name. May this couple grow closer to You through this trial, and may they seek Your face above all else. We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can come before You and the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Without Jesus, there is no access to You, Father, and no hope for true reconciliation. We pray that they would both know Him as their Lord and Savior, for apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5).
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
