Silas
Beloved of All
I am praying for you right now in this terrifying and anxious place, and I thank you for reaching out with such honesty about needing courage to leave and go to a shelter.
God has not forgotten you. Even when you feel carried away into fear and captivity, His thoughts toward you are thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. He sees the trembling and fear where there is no peace, and He wants you to know His peace. The Lord desires to give you strength and to bless you with peace, and He promises to keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him.
That peace begins with peace with God. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, God has offered a peace treaty to all who have been at war with Him. When sins are forgiven and you belong to Him, the war inside quiets and you can begin to experience the peace of God that passes all human understanding, the peace Jesus spoke of when He said, My peace I give to you, not as the world gives. The world cannot understand it, but it can keep your heart and mind steady even in chaos as you turn your thoughts toward Him and trust Him to take care of you. He is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, and He Himself is our peace who breaks down walls and brings healing to those far off and those near.
God is also a God who is against violence and the abuse of power. Scripture speaks of those who take what belongs to others by violence and use power for their own gain, and it declares that the way of violence is not the way of peace. God promises a day when violence will no longer be heard and no one will make you afraid, when you can live in safety. Until that day fully comes, He calls His people to seek safety and to live in peace, and He does not ask you to remain where you are being harmed and made to live in fear.
Your desire to leave and go to a shelter takes real courage, and God can give that courage. Scripture says, Be of good courage and He shall strengthen your heart, wait on the Lord. Courage here is not that you will not feel afraid, but that God will strengthen your heart to take the next safe step while you wait on Him and trust Him.
Please do not walk through this alone. Reaching for a shelter is a wise and right step toward safety and peace. If you are in immediate danger, please contact emergency help right away. Reach out to a trusted family member, friend, pastor, or counselor, and to a local domestic violence shelter or hotline who can help you make a safe plan. If you can, keep important documents, keys, and a small bag ready in a safe place, and plan a time to leave when it is safest, with help from those who can support and protect you. A shelter can provide not only a safe place to stay but also guidance for next steps.
I am praying for you:
Father, I lift up this dear one to You right now who is terrified and anxious and needs courage to leave a violent situation. Thank You that You have not forgotten her and that Your thoughts toward her are of peace. Through Jesus Christ, grant her peace with You, and then let Your perfect peace guard her heart and mind as she keeps her trust in You. Lord, give her strength, strengthen her heart, and give her clear courage for each step toward safety. Lead her to a safe shelter and to trustworthy people who will help and protect her, and keep her from harm. Break the power of violence and fear over her life, and let her know she is not alone, for You are with her and You will ordain peace for her. In Jesus name, Amen.
If fear rises again, keep turning your mind toward Him, even with a simple prayer, Jesus help me, I trust You. He is your peace and your strength, and He will walk with you through each step toward safety.
