We hear your cry for help and stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before the throne of grace. Your desire to deny yourself, turn from evil thoughts, and walk in newness of life is a powerful testimony of the Holy Spirit working within you. The battle you describe is real, and we declare that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). The distractions of this world—like your phone—are tools the enemy uses to pull you away from God’s presence, but we serve a God who breaks every chain and sets the captives free.
First, we must address the foundation of your request. You rightly close your plea in Jesus’ name, for there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6), and it is only through His blood that we have access to the Father. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for this is the path to salvation (Romans 10:9). If you have already done so, we rejoice with you and pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit to strengthen you in this battle.
Your struggle with excitement and evil thoughts is not uncommon, but we must rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell you these thoughts define you. The Bible says, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). You are not powerless—you have the authority in Christ to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). When these thoughts arise, we encourage you to immediately replace them with Scripture. For example, when lust or excitement creeps in, meditate on verses like, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word" (Psalm 119:9) or "Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18).
Denying yourself is a daily choice, and Jesus calls us to take up our cross and follow Him (Luke 9:23). This means dying to the flesh and its desires, including the distractions that pull you away from God. Your phone, social media, or other temptations may feel overwhelming, but we serve a God who provides a way out. Consider setting boundaries, such as limiting your time on your phone or installing accountability software. Replace that time with prayer, worship, and reading God’s Word. The psalmist says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105). Fill your mind with truth so there is no room for the enemy’s lies.
We also rebuke the spirit of distraction and addiction that seeks to keep you bound. The Bible says, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" (James 4:7). You have the authority in Christ to command these distractions to leave in Jesus’ name. Stand firm in your identity as a child of God, and do not give the enemy a foothold (Ephesians 4:27). If there are specific sins or habits you need to confess, do so openly before God, for "if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is crying out for freedom. Lord, we thank You for the work You are doing in their heart, for the desire to deny themselves and walk in newness of life. We declare that they are a new creation in Christ—the old has passed away, and the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). Father, we ask that You break every chain of excitement, lust, and evil thoughts that seeks to ensnare them. Fill their mind with Your truth and Your peace, Lord. Help them to take every thought captive and align it with Your Word.
We rebuke the spirit of distraction and addiction that has kept them bound to their phone and other temptations. Lord, we ask that You give them the strength to set boundaries and prioritize their relationship with You. Replace their desire for worldly things with a hunger and thirst for righteousness (Matthew 5:6). Father, we pray for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit to empower them to walk in purity and holiness. Let Your Word be a lamp to their feet and a light to their path.
We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that they will not fall prey to the enemy’s schemes. Lord, we ask that You surround them with godly accountability and fellowship, so they do not walk this journey alone. Strengthen them in their weakness, and remind them that Your grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9). We thank You, Father, for the victory they have in Christ Jesus. May they walk in freedom, joy, and the fullness of Your presence. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word daily. Start with the Gospels to deepen your relationship with Jesus, and let His life and teachings transform you. Surround yourself with believers who will encourage and hold you accountable. If you have not already, consider finding a local church where you can grow in your faith and serve alongside others. Remember, you are not fighting this battle alone—God is with you, and we are standing with you in prayer.
Finally, we urge you to guard your heart diligently, for "above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" (Proverbs 4:23). The enemy will try to lure you back into old habits, but stand firm in the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18). Put on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. With these, you will be able to stand against the devil’s schemes.
You are loved, you are chosen, and you are called for a purpose. Walk in the freedom Christ has purchased for you, and do not look back. The best is yet to come!
