Elisha Hoffman
###
His love of God and music were both learned from his parents. Following his service in the Union Army during the Civil War, he married ###. They would have three sons. He worked for the publishing house of the Evangelical Association. Several years later, ### followed in his father’s footsteps and was ordained into the Presbyterian Church in 1873. Two years later his wife died. In 1879, he married ### and they later had a son to add to the family.

He served for the next 42 years in pastoral ministry, serving churches in ###, ###, and ###. For thirty-three years he was pastor at ### Presbyterian Church in ###.

In addition to pastoring, he wrote over 2,000 hymns including “What a Wonderful Saviour!” “Enough for Me,” “Are You Washed in the Blood?” “No Other Friend Like Jesus,” “Leaning On the Everlasting Arms,” “Down at the Cross,” and “Is Your All on the Altar?” Many of his hymns were written for congregational worship for the church he was serving. He wrote both the melody and lyrics for the majority of his hymns.

He also edited and compiled over 50 different song books.

He is reported to have a ministerial heart for reaching out to the poor and suffering. While serving a church in ###, ### he visited a woman that has suffered greatly.

I Must Tell Jesus
I Must Tell Jesus
In his own words, “There was a woman to whom God had permitted many visitations of sorrow and affliction. Coming to her home one day, I found her much discouraged. She unburdened her heart, concluding with the question, “Brother ###, what shall I do?” I quoted from the word, then added, “You cannot do better than to take all of your sorrows to Jesus. You must tell Jesus.”

For a moment she seemed lost in meditation. Then her eyes lighted as she exclaimed, “Yes, I must tell Jesus.” As I left her home I had a vision of that joy-illuminated face…and I heard all along my pathway the echo, “I must tell Jesus. I must tell Jesus.”

As soon as he arrived home he penned the words for this hymn.

It happens to everyone of us, reading and searching for wonderful blessings that comes from God's word, blessed hymns of old and verses that touched our hearts. These hymns will not die or pass away with time. It tells the truth about Jesus. Heaven and earth shall pass away but My words will never pass away. We must tell Jesus, His love, His mercy and compassion. His prayer. Father forgive them for they do not know what they do. Wonderful examples of holy living. Loving the Father who is in heaven and praying daily, speaking from His heart what He felt and the effect on peoples lives. The best part is still ahead of us. We long to see Jesus face to face and tell Him how much we love Him and how much He did for us. Thanks for sharing. This is really a beautiful story. Those who went ahead of us to glory left us a legacy to remember and do what Jesus did. Love others just as He loved us.

Let us all tell about Jesus to those who are perishing without hope and will end up in hells burning fire. Tell Him all your troubles and pain and sorrow you may be going through. He will deliver you from the hand of satan who wants you to be full of depression, worry and fear. Jesus will take away all your burdens away from you and will give you a new start in life. Jesus alone can save us and protect us from temptations coming from the devil. Cheer your heart and see the sunshine coming from Jesus.

I am starting my day praising Jesus. He has waken me up to glorify His name and be a blessing to everyone I find at work. Hope everyone feels this way. Full of joy and happiness knowing that Jesus is leading your way. At the end of our road in life we shall find ourselves seeing Jesus face to face and rejoicing with Him forever. Amen
