I knew I was right

We hear the pain and the desire for vindication in your words, and we join with you in seeking God's truth and will together in Jesus' name. We understand how deeply it can hurt to feel misunderstood or dismissed, and how natural it is to long for others to acknowledge when we were right. At the same time, we want to lovingly speak truth to you because we care about your walk with the Lord.

We must gently rebuke the spirit of entitlement and pride that can take root when we focus on what others owe us. Scripture warns us, Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18. And God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. James 4:6. When we hold tightly to the thought that we deserve apologies and that God is affirming our need to be proven right, we risk letting bitterness and self-righteousness harden our hearts. We are called instead to do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself. Philippians 2:3.

God is indeed a God of truth who does not lie. Numbers 23:19. Yet Scripture also instructs us to test what we believe we have heard from Him, saying Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1. Feelings of vindication should always be tested against the Word of God and confirmed through prayer, Scripture, and godly counsel. God is far more concerned with forming Christlike character in us than with ensuring others apologize to us. He calls us to release the need for vindication into His hands, for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19.

The Lord Jesus teaches us to forgive even when no apology comes. He says, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15. And we are to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32. True freedom does not come when others finally say they were wrong, but when we choose to forgive as Christ forgave us and trust God to be our defender and judge in His perfect time. He humbled himself, and became obedient to death, even death on the cross. Philippians 2:8, and He calls us to walk in that same humility.

We also notice your request does not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and assurance that we are hearing from God. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, confessing Him as Lord, so that your prayers are heard and your heart is truly led by His Spirit.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and lift up this dear one to You. We thank You that You are the God of all truth and all comfort, and that You see every hurt and every moment of being misunderstood. We ask You to search this heart and gently reveal any pride, bitterness, or demand for vindication that does not please You. Grant humility and a forgiving spirit, and teach us to release every debt we feel others owe us into Your merciful hands. Help us to test every thought and impression against Your Word, and to walk in discernment and grace. Heal any wound that is driving this need to be proven right, and replace it with the peace that comes from knowing we are fully known and fully loved in Christ. Create a clean heart and renew a right spirit, that we may seek Your glory above our own vindication. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to stay rooted in Scripture daily, to bring these thoughts to a trusted pastor or mature believer for counsel, and to pray not for apologies owed to you, but for the grace to forgive as you have been forgiven, trusting God to vindicate in His way and time. He will honor a humble and contrite heart.

We appreciate you sharing what has been on your heart. Wanting to be heard and to know that God sees when you have felt dismissed or hurt is deeply human, and we hear how much being vindicated matters to you right now.

Sometimes the longing for others to acknowledge our pain can feel so strong it becomes the focus of what we believe God is saying. We have found it helps to hold those strong impressions gently before the Lord and alongside trusted, mature believers who know us well and can help us sort through what we are sensing with care and humility. It does not mean your pain is not real, it just gives space to seek God's direction without carrying the weight of waiting for others to respond in a certain way.

If you have a pastor, counselor, or a steady Christian friend you trust, we would encourage you to share openly with them about what you are experiencing and feeling, and keep staying rooted in God's love for you as it is, not as dependent on apologies from others. We are walking with you in prayer.

Father, we thank You for Your care for this person and that You see every hurt. We ask You to give peace, clarity and wisdom in the days ahead, to draw them close to Your presence and to surround them with wise and caring support. Lead them in Your gentle way and help them rest in being fully known and loved by You. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a searching word in Scripture which says that pride goes before destruction and humility before honor. When destruction walks through the land it casts its shadow before it, and that shadow is pride. When honor visits a man's house it casts its shadow before it, and that shadow is humility. There is nothing into which the heart of man so easily falls as pride, and yet there is no vice more frequently and more emphatically condemned in Scripture.

You write that God has told you that many owe you apologies and that you deserve them. Let me urge you with all tenderness to bring such thoughts to the light of the Word and to try them there. The throne of both pride and humility is the heart, and the heart is deceitful. True humility must be genuine, not a humility which lives only in the face, for the imitation of humility is the nearest thing to pride itself. Humble men are mostly conscious of great pride, while those who boast of their rightness have reason to fear they lack what they claim. It is not safe for any of us to speak confidently of our own humility, for we are poor judges in our own cause.

The Lord does not teach His children to stand upon their deserts or to keep a ledger of apologies owed to them. He teaches us to serve the Lord with all humility of mind, with humility before the act, humility during the service, and humility when all is done. Remember what we are, mortal and depraved creatures, who have nothing to boast of before God. If honor is to come, it will come through lowliness, not through the demand that others vindicate us.

And concerning forgiveness, hear what the gospel says. There is forgiveness with God, through Jesus Christ His Son, and it is a divine, surprising, complete and eternal forgiveness. He not only forgave us at the first, but continues daily to forgive, and that forgiveness is to be the pattern of our own. The Word says, even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. It is a joint work of mutual forgiveness among Christians, and for those who have received so much, to forgive should be as natural as to open our hands.

Whether others ever apologize or not is not in your power, nor is their apology necessary for you to enter heaven or to walk in peace. What is necessary is that you know your own need of forgiveness and that you have received it from Christ, and that you then extend that same forgiveness freely to others. To wait for apologies, to claim them as a debt, will only nourish pride and keep the heart in bondage. To forgive as Christ has forgiven will bring freedom.

Do you tremble for fear of your own sin and desire forgiveness from God. That is the safer and better place to stand. Confess pride where it has lifted its head, and ask the Lord for the gift of true humility. Believe in the forgiveness of sins through the blood of Christ, and then go and forgive those who you feel have wronged you, whether they ask it or not. Overcome evil with good, and seek no honor for yourself, but let the Lord give honor as He sees fit.

May the Lord show you the hardness of your own heart and the greatness of His mercy, and may He teach you to walk humbly with Him, forgiving as you have been forgiven, and finding your vindication not in the apologies of men but in the grace of God in Christ.

They apologized to me a lot for what they did to me. They knew that they owed me a lot. I knew that I was correct because God knew that I didn't play at all. That's why I always tell the truth and my eyes everything to prove them wrong to learn a lesson. That's why God didn't play about me.
