I helped people and it wasn’t good enough for them.

Beloved of All
I helped people recently and it was not good enough for them. In return I got some really bad and hurtful comments that gave me anxiety, broke my heart and made me cry. I ask for prayers for me and the ### people that hurt me.

We hear your heart and we grieve with you over the pain of giving help in love and receiving hurtful words in return. It is deeply painful when our efforts to do good are met with criticism, and we understand why this has brought anxiety, a broken heart, and tears. Please know that God sees what you did and He sees the hurt you now carry.

We want to gently remind you that our service is ultimately unto the Lord and not unto people. When we look for our worth and approval from people we will often be disappointed, but God is faithful to see and reward what is done in love. Colossians 3:23 says And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Galatians 6:9 encourages us, Let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. Your kindness was not wasted even if it was not appreciated as you had hoped. The Lord who sees in secret noticed every act of help you gave.

We also see your beautiful Christlike desire to ask for prayer not only for yourself but for the people who hurt you. This reflects the heart of Jesus. He calls us to a higher way when we are wounded. Matthew 5:44 says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. And Ephesians 4:32 says And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Forgiveness does not mean that hurtful words were acceptable or that you must ignore the pain, but it does mean releasing bitterness to God and asking Him to work in their hearts as well as yours. Romans 12:21 says Don't be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

For your anxiety and broken heart, we want to point you to the nearness of God. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. He invites you to bring every anxious thought, every tear, every replay of those hurtful comments to Him and to leave them in His caring hands.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus and we want to lovingly share why His name matters so much to us. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and peace with God. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name for salvation and for daily help. Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

We now join together and pray for you.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear one to You. You see the help that was offered in love and You see the hurtful words that followed. Lord, we ask You to heal this broken heart and calm this anxiety. Comfort every tear and replace the replay of hurtful comments with Your truth and Your peace that passes understanding. Help our friend to cast every worry on You and to find rest in Your care. Teach us all to serve for Your approval and not for the praise of people, and give strength to not grow weary in doing good. Father, we also lift up those who spoke those hurtful words. We ask You to work in their hearts, to convict where needed, to soften and to bring them to repentance and kindness. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us in Christ, and to overcome evil with good. Draw each one closer to Jesus and let Your love be made known through this painful situation. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to keep doing good as God leads you, to guard your heart by bringing your hurts quickly to the Lord in prayer, and to seek fellowship with other believers who can encourage you and speak truth over you. If hurtful words continue, it is wise to set healthy boundaries while still keeping a forgiving heart. We are praying that God will restore your joy, strengthen your heart, and use even this pain to draw you nearer to Him.

We were so sorry to read what happened. It is deeply painful to offer help in good faith and receive harsh, hurtful words in return. It makes sense that you felt anxious and heartbroken to the point of tears, and we appreciate your graciousness in asking prayer not only for yourself but for the people who hurt you.

One insight that has helped many of us is that choosing to release someone from what they owe you and actually feeling peace about it often happen on different timelines. You can make a quiet, steady decision not to hold onto revenge and still value them as people made by God, while your emotions still need time to catch up. That ache, resentment or fear does not mean you have failed to forgive. It just means your heart is still healing. And forgiving does not have to mean immediately going back to the same closeness as before.

In the next few days it may help to give yourself some space from replaying those comments, share what happened with one trusted and steady person who will listen and pray with you, and bring both your own hurt and those who hurt you before the Lord honestly, even in brief prayers when anxiety rises. If the anxiety stays heavy or makes daily life hard, please consider reaching out to a pastor, counselor or medical professional alongside prayer.

Father, we lift this friend to You now. Comfort their heart, quiet the anxious thoughts and heal the hurt they carry. Help them rest in Your care and release this pain to You day by day. We also lift those who spoke harshly, work in their hearts and draw them toward kindness and truth. Lead each one toward Your peace and direction. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your sorrow has been heard and we have carried your case before the throne of grace as you asked. To give help and then to receive hard and hurtful words in return is a sharp trial, and it is no wonder that your heart is broken and your eyes have been filled with tears, and that anxiety now presses upon your spirit. The Lord sees those tears and knows the weight you carry.

We have prayed for you, that the God of all comfort would quiet your anxious thoughts and heal your wounded heart. Our Savior bids us not to be so affected by outward things as to get into a state of worry and distress, for anxiety unfits us to meet our difficulty and brings no comfort and no grist to the mill. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you. There is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ, and even the leaves of that tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The least word from His lips bears healing in it, and it can change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. May He speak peace to you and cause you to know that you dwell in Him where iniquity is forgiven and the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick.

We have prayed also for those who have hurt you, as you in grace desired us to do. This is the mind of Christ. There is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared, and there is forgiveness with Him for you now, through the blood of Jesus shed at Gethsemane and Golgotha. Since you have received so great and so complete a forgiveness, freely and eternally for Christ's sake, you are called to extend forgiveness also to those who have offended you. If you find it hard to forgive, take up those three sweet words and say in your heart, for Christ's sake. As God for Christ's sake has forgiven you, so also do you forgive.

May the Lord grant you present forgiveness and present healing, and keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him. We commend you to His tender care, praying that He will turn your anxiety into quiet trust, your weeping into joy, and make you able by His grace to love and pray for those who have caused you pain.
