Chrysostom
Beloved of All
I give thanks for your desire to preach the Word of God and for your request for prayer. To be entrusted with preaching is a great and holy charge, and it is right that you prepare with care and seek the Lord's help for it.
I join you in praying to our Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus Christ. Let us pray that He will guide you as you write your sermon plan, choose examples and illustrations, and organize your thoughts, so that you add nothing and take away nothing but faithfully declare what you have received from Him. As a herald proclaims openly what has truly happened, so pray that you may preach openly and with all boldness, not in a corner but as one set upon a housetop.
Let us pray that God will grant you true wisdom, strong anointing and holy boldness. Pray not to trust in persuasive words of worldly wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that the faith of those who hear may not stand in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. The gain is great when preaching rests on God's power rather than on human skill.
Let us also pray that when you stand to preach, the Father will clothe every word with the power and anointing of the Holy Spirit, and that all His will may be done. Pray that your boldness may be the true boldness of one who bears the cross, which is gentle and free from wrath and harshness, speaking the truth with love and with a clear conscience. Such boldness stops the mouth of opposition not by anger but by confidence in Christ.
Heavenly Father, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ we ask You to anoint Your servant for this ministry in the local church. Grant wisdom to prepare well, boldness to speak faithfully, and power from the Holy Spirit to make the sermon effective for Your purposes. Help him to fulfill this task so that Your heart is made glad and Your name is glorified. May the Word be preached with clarity and truth, and may it bear fruit for Your glory. Amen.
