Disciple of Prayer
I have been sinning, and I feel a lot of guilt, remorse, and selfishness. I want to become a better person. I want my old self back before I became a sinner, but fully better and I pray for a specific good outcome for my life going forward. For forgiveness for my past and for God to see my desire for a better future, day by day.

We hear the deep sorrow and longing in your heart, and we are grateful you have come before the Lord with a repentant spirit. The guilt and remorse you feel are signs that the Holy Spirit is convicting you, drawing you back to God’s truth and grace. This is not a time for despair but for hope, because Scripture tells us in 1 John 1:9, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."* Your desire to turn away from sin and seek God’s will is evidence of His work in you, and that is something to rejoice in, even in the midst of repentance.

You mention wanting your "old self" back, but we must remind you that the goal is not to return to who you were before sin entered your life—because even then, you were not yet made new in Christ. Instead, the Lord calls you to something far greater: a transformed life, renewed by His Spirit. Second Corinthians 5:17 declares, *"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new."* This is the promise for you—not just a return to the past, but a future filled with God’s purpose, holiness, and joy.

We also notice that your prayer does not invoke the name of Jesus Christ, and this is vital. There is no forgiveness, no access to the Father, and no salvation apart from Him. Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). It is only through His blood that your sins are washed away, and it is only in His name that you can boldly approach the throne of grace.

As for the "specific good outcome" you pray for, we encourage you to trust God’s sovereignty. His plans for you are far greater than anything you could imagine. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, *"For I know the plans that I have for you,’ says Yahweh, ‘plans of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."* Surrender your desires to Him, seeking first His kingdom and righteousness (Matthew 6:33), and He will guide your steps. Be patient and persistent in prayer, but also be open to His will—even if it looks different from what you envision.

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this repentant soul before You, thanking You for the conviction of the Holy Spirit that has brought them to this place of surrender. Lord, we ask that You would forgive every sin they have committed, known and unknown, and cleanse them thoroughly by the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Wash them white as snow, Father, and create in them a clean heart, renewing a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10).

We pray that You would break the chains of guilt and shame that the enemy seeks to use against them. Remind them that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Fill them with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, we ask that You would restore to them the joy of Your salvation (Psalm 51:12) and give them a hunger for Your Word and Your presence. Surround them with godly community—brothers and sisters in Christ who will encourage them, hold them accountable, and walk with them in this journey of sanctification.

We pray for their future, Father. Align their desires with Your will, and lead them in the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Give them wisdom to discern Your voice, courage to obey, and faith to trust You even when the way is unclear. May they seek You above all else, finding their identity and purpose in You alone.

We rebuke any stronghold of sin, any lingering temptation, or any lie of the enemy that would seek to pull them back into bondage. By the authority of Jesus Christ, we declare freedom, victory, and a life marked by holiness and devotion to You.

Finally, Lord, if this beloved one has not yet fully surrendered to Jesus as their Lord and Savior, we pray that today would be the day of salvation. Open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel, and may they place their faith entirely in Christ, who alone can save.

We ask all these things in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Beloved, we urge you to take practical steps in your walk with Christ. Immerse yourself in Scripture daily, for it is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17) and the lamp to your feet (Psalm 119:105). Seek out a Bible-believing church where you can grow in fellowship and accountability. Confess your struggles to mature believers who can pray for you and walk alongside you. And above all, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2).

If there are specific sins you are struggling with, we encourage you to name them before the Lord and before trusted believers. James 5:16 tells us, *"Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."* There is power in bringing sin into the light, where it loses its grip on you.

You are not defined by your past sins, but by the righteousness of Christ imputed to you through faith. Walk in that truth, and let God’s grace empower you to live a life that honors Him. We are standing with you in prayer, believing that God will complete the good work He has begun in you (Philippians 1:6).

We're here with you, friend, and we're so glad you've come to the Lord with a repentant heart. We know it's not easy to face our mistakes, but remember, God is always ready to welcome us back with open arms. He sees your desire to change, and that's a beautiful thing.

We want to encourage you to keep seeking God's face, day by day. It's in His presence that we find the strength to turn away from sin and towards righteousness. As it says in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." He's right there with you, ready to heal and restore.

We also want to remind you that God isn't just interested in making you a better version of your old self. He wants to create something new in you. As 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." This new creation is filled with purpose, holiness, and joy. It's a journey, and it's one we're all on together.

As for your specific prayer, we encourage you to trust God's plan. He sees the bigger picture, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). We should seek His kingdom and righteousness first (Matthew 6:33), and He'll take care of the rest.

Let's pray together:

"Dear Lord, thank You for this person's repentant heart. We ask that You would forgive their sins, wash them clean, and create in them a new, clean heart. Break the chains of guilt and shame, and fill them with Your peace. Restore their joy in You, and give them a hunger for Your Word and presence. Surround them with godly community, and guide their future according to Your will. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

We're standing with you, believing that God will complete the good work He's started in you. Keep seeking Him, and trust in His unfailing love. You're not alone in this journey.
