Lord, this is my only chance please can you send someone to help me! I have been debated by my ### again, and he has disproved my beliefs, I love you so much Lord. Why has today been so hard! Please! I feel hopeless! It's ###am and I don't want to sleep. I am really upset! I don't know how much longer I can hold on! Please Lord! I don't want to lose you! I love you so much Jesus please! I don't want to lose you Lord! Why did this have to happen! I don't want to lose you Lord why did you let this happen please don't forget about me! why have you forgotten about me, Lord! What did I do wrong. Please appear to me Lord, I want you to come back I don't know how long I can carry on! I don't want to lose my faith, please lord! My ### had really good arguments it's too much for me to bear, why is my faith so weak. Why did I let this happen. I shouldn't have allowed him to debate me. I don't feel your presence anymore lord, there is no hope for me. We hear your cry and we are standing with you right now in Jesus' name, lifting you up before the throne of grace. We hear how heavy and hopeless this night feels, how shaken you are after being debated and how afraid you are of losing your faith which is so precious to you. Please know that the Lord has not forgotten you and He has not left you, even when you cannot feel His presence.

The Lord says to you in this moment, Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. And again He promises, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you. Hebrews 13:5. Your feelings of distance do not mean He is distant. When you feel overwhelmed, He is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. We want you to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7.

We also want to gently correct the fear that you have done something wrong that made God forget you or that your faith is gone because someone had good arguments. Faith is not kept by winning every debate and it is not lost by one hard conversation. Truth is not decided by who argues best in the moment. Our faith rests on Jesus Christ Himself, who died and rose again, not on our ability to answer every question. It is good to want to defend your faith, and we are told to be ready always to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, with humility and fear. 1 Peter 3:15. But we are also told to study to show yourself approved by God. 2 Timothy 2:15. If you were not prepared for this debate, do not condemn yourself. That does not make your faith weak, it means you need time to learn and grow, and that is normal for every believer.

The enemy wants you to believe that because you could not answer every point, the gospel is disproved. That is not true. We are to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5. Some questions take time, prayer, and searching the Scriptures to understand. If you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We encourage you not to keep debating in this exhausted and hopeless state late at night. Step away, rest, pray, and seek help from mature believers who can walk through those arguments with you.

We know you said you do not know how much longer you can hold on and that you do not want to sleep and feel there is no hope. We love you and we take that pain very seriously. Please do not stay alone with these thoughts tonight. Reach out right now to a trusted pastor, a godly family member, a mature Christian friend, or a counselor, and let them know exactly how hopeless you feel. If you feel you might harm yourself, please tell someone near you immediately and ask them to stay with you. You are precious to God and to His people, and you do not have to carry this alone. The Lord invites you, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. He gives sleep to His beloved, and we pray you will allow your body and mind to rest tonight, trusting Him to keep you through the night. I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety. Psalm 4:8.

We also rejoice that you love Jesus so much and that you cried out to Him by name, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father, and your cry to Him is heard. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39. Nothing this person said can separate you from His love.

Let us pray together for you.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear precious soul to You in the name of Jesus Christ. Lord, You see the tears, the sleeplessness, the fear and the hopelessness tonight. We ask You to wrap Your arms around them and let them know You have not forgotten them. Lord, quiet the storm of arguments and accusations in their mind and speak Your peace over them. We ask You to restore hope, to strengthen faith that feels so small, and to remind them that You are faithful even when we feel faithless. Give them rest tonight, guard their heart and mind, and send a godly person to come alongside them quickly, to listen, to pray, and to help answer these hard questions with truth and grace. Help them to wait on You, to get to church and to find encouragement among Your people. Renew their strength, Lord, for those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. Isaiah 40:31. Let them feel Your presence again and know that You hold them fast and will never let them go. We ask all this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus, our hope and our salvation, amen.

We encourage you to hold on, even moment by moment. Open your Bible to the Psalms and read them aloud, pray honestly even if it is only Jesus help me, and do not make any big decisions in this exhausted state. Tell a trusted believer tonight how you are feeling and make a plan to meet with your pastor before church. Your faith is not gone, it is being tested, and the Lord who loves you will carry you through this test as you cling to Him. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Psalm 61:2. He is that Rock, and He will not let you fall.

Your cry has come before me in the watches of the night, and I hear in it the very trembling which has shaken the people of God in all ages. You say, why has the Lord forgotten me, why have you forsaken me, and you feel as if there were no hope and no presence left. Yet even in that bitter lament there is a word of faith, for you still say, my Lord, my God. You call Him yours though you dream that He has forsaken you, and I love to see you keep the grip of your faith even when it seems to be illogical. That double cry, My God, My God, is itself the proof that faith has not let go.

Do not think that to feel forsaken is to be forsaken. A child who is feeling the strokes of the rod is very foolish to say, my father has forgotten me. The Lord is at that moment dealing with you more nearly than you know. Hear His own answer to Zion's complaint, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands. His remembrance of His people as a whole and of each individual in particular has been secured by Him beyond all question. He will not forget your work of faith and labor of love, nor will He leave you to fall in the evil day, for the Lord is righteous.

You tell me that another has debated with you and with clever arguments has shaken you, and now you ask why your faith is so weak. Between the very lowest degree of faith and a state of unbelief there is a great gulf. You have little faith, but little faith is still faith. Our Lord said to Peter as he sank, O thou of little faith, why didst thou doubt. He did not say, thou hast no faith. Weak faith is apt to have too high an opinion of its own power and then to be all up and then all down, and weak faith often gets a wetting. Peter was not drowned, though he was soaked to the skin. So it is with you. How it tries our faith and proves of what stuff it is made, and how it makes us reel trembling and weak where we thought we were steadfast and strong. Your salvation does not depend upon the liveliness of your prayers nor upon your skill in argument, but upon Christ alone.

Faith protects the whole man. When the assault comes against the head, when the enemy would deceive us with unsettled notions in theology and tempt us to doubt those things which are verily received among us, we are to take above all the shield of faith. The fiery darts of the wicked, whether they come from Satan, from wicked men, or from our own wicked self, are quenched there. The enemy says, your confidence is vain and your hope shall soon be cut off. Faith answers, I have been young and now am old, yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken. There is no respect in which faith is not useful to us, therefore whatever you leave out, see to your faith.

What is faith. It is not merely to know that Christ is there, nor merely to believe that He is strong, but the essence of faith lies in dropping down into His arms. If by faith you can believe in the sin forgiving God and accept the matchless atonement which covers all your guilt, then you are even now among the blessed. His faith is counted to him for righteousness, seeing he has believed in Jesus Christ, and that is a righteousness which at the last great day will stand the test of the most searching enquiry. One sorry piece of craft which Satan teaches to many is to make them doubt, or pretend to doubt, anything in Scripture which frowns upon them. Do not practice such guile upon your own soul. Come honestly to Christ as a sinner and trust Him.

Do not condemn yourself because you should not have entered that debate. Learn from it to be fed and grounded in the Word before you contend for it. For this present hour, turn from arguments to appropriation. If you think God has forsaken you, do not give up your faith in Him, but like your Lord upon the cross, cry My God, my God, again and again. If you have had one anchor before, cast out two anchors now and double the hold of your faith. Pray though your prayers feel poor, read though the Word feels dim, and tell the Lord plainly that you love Him and desire Him, for there is some trace of His hand in your spirit even now that you say He has forgotten you.

You ask how you can last till the Lord's day. God grant you faith enough to live by faith, even to the end, as the freeborn children of God. Go to the house of prayer when it opens, open your sorrow to a faithful pastor or elder, and let the means of grace sustain you. You have not lost Him who has loved you with an everlasting love. He who bore the cry, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me, knows that darkness, and He will bring you through it. Keep looking unto Jesus, trust His finished work alone for salvation, and you shall find that you are persecuted but not forsaken, cast down but not destroyed.

Your cry in the middle of the night has been heard, and I want you to know that God has not forgotten you, even when you cannot feel His presence. Feeling hopeless and shaken after being debated does not mean you have lost Him. He sees you right now, at this hour, and He is near to those who call on Him with a troubled heart.

What you describe is like Peter when he stepped out onto the water to come to Jesus. While he looked to Christ he walked, but when he saw the wind was strong he became afraid and began to sink. Jesus did not let him drown. Scripture says immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, saying, wherefore did you doubt, O you of little faith. The wind was not what caused him to sink, but his doubt, and yet even with little faith, Jesus saved him. Your faith may feel very small tonight, but Christ saves even little faith when it cries out, Lord, save me. That cry you are praying, even through tears, is itself faith reaching for Him.

Do not think that your faith stands or falls on whether you won an argument. Faith needs a generous and vigorous soul that rises above human reasonings, and it is not measured by having the perfect answer in a debate. Arguments can be clever and still be empty, and being unable to answer them in the moment does not mean the truth of Christ has failed. Our standing before God is not by works, or by how well we argue, but by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. He did not save us because we had perfect works or perfect understanding, but while we were without strength He saved us by His mercy, so that no one can boast. That same grace holds you now, not your ability to defend every point.

It is also not a sign that you are abandoned if your faith feels like that of a child again. Faith is not a small thing, it is the whole power of our life with God, but we all have seasons when we are weak and need to be strengthened again through His word and through His people. That does not mean you have lost everything. It means you need to be nourished again, and God is patient to do that.

Please do not stay alone with these heavy thoughts tonight. If you feel you cannot hold on, reach out right now to a trusted pastor, a family member, a mature Christian friend, or a counselor, or contact a crisis helpline in your area. Tell someone where you are and how you are feeling. Try to rest, even a little, and bring your honest prayers to the Lord just as you have here. He already knows your words before you speak them. In the coming days before church, open the Scriptures, even a small portion such as the Psalms or the Gospel of Matthew where Peter's story is told, and ask God to let you hear His voice again. Speak with your pastor as soon as you can and tell him exactly what you have shared here, so he can walk with you and help answer the questions that troubled you.

I am praying for you now, that the Lord who caught Peter will catch you, that He will calm the storm of fear and doubt, and that He will remind you that you are held by His grace and not by your own strength. You are not forgotten. You are not without hope. Jesus said that whoever comes to Him He will never cast out. Keep crying out to Him, Lord, save me, and trust that His hand is already stretched out toward you.

Your honesty about how heavy this feels matters, and God has not forgotten you or turned away from you. Feeling His absence does not mean He is absent. Feeling hopeless does not mean you are without hope. The Lord sees you right now and He hears you when you call to Him with love for Jesus and a desire not to lose Him.

What you are describing is not a failure that disqualifies you. Faith is not winning a debate or having an answer for every argument in the moment. Faith is taking God at His word and trusting what He has said even when you cannot see it. It is the inward confidence in what we hope for and the quiet evidence in our hearts of realities we cannot yet see with our eyes. That kind of trust is what God honors. The Scriptures show that those who were commended before God were commended because they believed Him, not because they were eloquent or never felt weak.

Think of Abel, who simply offered to God what God had asked for and was accepted as righteous because he believed. Think of Enoch, of whom it is said he pleased God, and we are told plainly that without faith it is impossible to please Him. Think of Noah, who had never seen what God warned him about, yet out of reverence he obeyed and prepared an ark, and through that trust he became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. Think of Abraham, who left for a place he had not yet seen and later was willing to offer Isaac because he believed God would keep His promise, even if it required raising his son from the dead. In each case God looked at the heart that trusted His promise and counted that trust as righteousness. He did the same for those who looked forward to the coming Messiah before He had come, and He does the same for you when you trust in Jesus Christ, even when your faith feels small.

That is why the prophet said the just shall live by faith, and why the apostles repeat it. No one is made right before God by keeping the law or by the strength of his own arguments or performance. The law shows us our sin and our need, so that we are driven to Jesus. We are made right with God as a gift, by grace, through faith in Christ. That faith itself is not something you manufacture. It is a gift God gives, and He gives to each one a measure to begin to trust Him. Sometimes He also gives a special strengthening of faith for a particular hard moment, but even ordinary, trembling trust in Jesus is precious to Him.

Because you are justified by faith in Jesus, you have peace with God through Him. You are not at enmity with Him. You have access into His grace, and you stand in that grace not in your own strength. You are received as His child, adopted into His family, an heir through Christ. That standing does not rise and fall with how strong you feel or how well you answered in a debate. God does not weigh the skill of your answers. He looks at whether your heart is turned toward His Son in trust, and you are telling Him that it is.

It is also important to know that true faith will show itself in how we live, but the way we live proves the faith is real, it does not earn it. God sees the faith that moves the life, and He is the one who accounts that faith for righteousness apart from works or religious performance.

When you say you do not feel His presence, please hear this. We are not to build our confidence on a feeling that comes and goes. We build it on what God has said in His Word. He has promised never to leave or forsake those who belong to Him. He has promised that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, and that He who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to those who trust Him. Cling to those promises even when your heart is shaking. Read them slowly, pray them honestly, tell Him exactly what you have told Him here.

You should not carry this alone. The heaviness you feel when you say you do not know how long you can hold on is a sign to reach out right away to someone you trust, a mature believer, a pastor, a counselor, or a trusted friend or family member who can stay with you. If you feel unsafe with your thoughts, please contact a local crisis helpline or emergency support in your area, or go to someone nearby who can help you stay safe. You do not need to have perfect words or strong faith to ask for help. Let others help you hold on while God strengthens you.

You did not do something unforgivable by talking with someone who challenged you. You love Jesus and you want to keep trusting Him, and that desire itself is evidence of His work in you. It is wise, when you are feeling so vulnerable, to step back from debates and to be nourished instead by Scripture, by prayer, and by fellowship with believers who can walk with you and answer questions with gentleness over time. Questions and arguments do not undo the truth that the world was made by the word of God, that what is seen was made from what is unseen, and that God has provided righteousness through faith in His Son.

You are not without hope and you are not without a future. Because you are justified by faith, you can rejoice in the hope of the glory of God, knowing He will keep what He has promised. Hold fast to Jesus even with a weak hand. He is holding you with a strong one.

I pray for you that God will quiet your heart with His peace that passes understanding, that He will remind you that you are His child by faith in Christ, that He will lift the weight of fear and shame, that He will give you rest and sleep and renewed strength, and that He will surround you with caring people who can support you in this season. May He show you again His grace in which you stand, and may you hear His Word as true and trustworthy, so that your trust in Jesus is renewed day by day.
