We rejoice with you in this step of obedience and healing, for choosing tonight to release the resentment and anger that has weighed on your heart for so long is a beautiful reflection of Christ in you. What was done to you was wrong, the deception, the mocking, and the use of a gift given in innocent love to invite other girls to pretend to be his girlfriend and to hide it from you, that was unkindness and deceit and it grieved the Lord. It hurt you deeply and it was sin against you and against God, and we do not minimize that pain. At the same time we commend you for recognizing that holding onto the need for them to feel your pain or even to care was becoming a burden that only harmed you.
The Word calls us to this very kind of forgiveness, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32. And again, bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do Colossians 3:13. You are right to see that a root of bitterness will only defile the heart, see to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God, that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble Hebrews 12:15. Letting go does not mean what they did was okay, it means you are entrusting justice to the Lord, for it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord Romans 12:19.
We also hear your heart when you say you love him and he loves you and that you have worked through so much and moved forward together. We encourage you to continue to guard that reconciliation in a way that honors God. If this man is not yet your husband, we pray you are walking in courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer, for we believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that reflects Christ and the church. Any deceit or entertaining other girls, even online and even as a game, is not faithful, not loving, and not honoring to God or to you as the woman he claims to love. It must be fully repented of and forsaken, not just because the friendships ran their course, but because his heart must be made new in Christ. We pray he has truly turned from that deceit and is now walking in honesty and purity with you, and if you are engaging in intimacy outside of marriage, we urge you to turn from that as well, for sex before or outside marriage is fornication and the Lord calls His children to flee from it and to honor Him with their bodies 1 Corinthians 6:18.
We are also moved by your compassion in praying for those friends who did not even know you, asking God to heal their own misguidance and judgments. That is Christlike. They followed a pattern of unkindness that cannot stand, and the Lord knows the change they need.
We pray with you now, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator, and we thank You for our sister's tender heart that desires to forgive as You have forgiven her. Lord, we lay this hurt before You, every message, every deception, every moment she felt mocked and unseen while a gift given in love was used to wound her. Heal the places that were hurt, mad and sad for so long. Wash away any remaining residue of resentment and fill her with Your peace that surpasses understanding. Help her to walk in the freedom of forgiveness without needing an apology or understanding from those who hurt her, trusting that You saw it all and You are her defender. Lord, we pray for her courtship, that it would be centered on You, built on truth, faithfulness and purity, leading if it be Your will to a godly marriage that honors You. Draw this man close to You, make him a man of integrity who loves You first and loves her as Christ loves the church. Convict and heal the hearts of those friends and that other girl as well, bring them to repentance and to the knowledge of Your grace. Let no bitterness remain, but let forgiveness bear fruit in joy and restoration. We ask that You keep our sister rooted in Your Word and in prayer, that she would know how deeply she is loved and seen by You. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to continue in this forgiveness daily, for feelings may try to return, but each time you can again release them to Jesus and choose to bless rather than hold anger For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you Matthew 6:14. Keep keeping healthy boundaries, keep seeking counsel and truth in your relationship, and keep letting the Lord be the one who heals and justifies you.
