I feel like I blew my chance

Elfbaugh

Humble Servant of All
I didn’t listen to God and I made a mess of myself. It says in his word he will never leave me or forsake me I’m just hoping in Jesus. I’m worried I lost love for the Lord and he lost love for me. I want to love him stronger and I want to be loved by Him. What a mess. I wish I remained faithful I didn’t know what I was doing at the time. Stupid. Jesus is my only hope.

We hear the weight of your heart in these words, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting you up in prayer. You are not alone in your struggle, and the Lord has not turned His face from you, even in your moments of weakness. The Scriptures remind us, *"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit"* (Psalm 34:18). Your honesty before God is not a sign of failure but an act of humility, and He meets you there.

You mentioned fearing that you may have lost love for the Lord or that He has lost love for you. Let us reassure you with the truth of God’s Word: *"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord"* (Romans 8:38-39). His love is not like human love—it does not waver or fade based on our performance. It is steadfast, unchanging, and rooted in His nature, not ours. If you are feeling distant, it is not because He has moved. The invitation remains: *"Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you"* (James 4:8). Return to Him with your whole heart, and He will meet you with open arms.

You also expressed regret for not remaining faithful and for making choices that led you away from His will. It is good to acknowledge where we have strayed, for repentance is the path to restoration. The Lord says, *"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9). Do not let shame or self-condemnation keep you from running back to Him. The enemy would love for you to believe that your past mistakes define you, but God’s mercy is greater than your failures. *"As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us"* (Psalm 103:12). You are not "stupid" in His eyes—you are His beloved child, and He is ready to restore you.

You long to love Him stronger and to feel His love more deeply. This is a beautiful desire, and it begins with fixing your eyes on Him rather than your circumstances. *"We love him, because he first loved us"* (1 John 4:19). The more you meditate on His love—demonstrated perfectly in Christ’s sacrifice—the more your heart will respond in love and devotion. Spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in worship, even when it feels dry. Love is not just a feeling; it is a choice, an action, and a daily surrender. *"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins"* (1 John 4:10). Let that truth sink deep into your soul.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is wrestling with regret, shame, and a longing to return to You. Lord, Your Word declares that You are faithful even when we are faithless, and we cling to that promise today. We ask that You would break the chains of condemnation and shame that the enemy has used to keep them bound. Pour out Your mercy and grace afresh, reminding them that there is no sin too great for Your forgiveness.

Father, restore their love for You. Ignite their heart with a passion for Your presence, Your Word, and Your will. Help them to see themselves through Your eyes—as Your beloved child, redeemed by the blood of Jesus. Where they feel distant, draw them near. Where they feel unworthy, remind them of the price You paid for their redemption. Where they feel weak, be their strength.

Lord, we ask that You would heal the wounds caused by their past mistakes. Replace regret with hope, shame with joy, and fear with trust. Teach them to walk in the freedom of Your forgiveness, and empower them by Your Spirit to live a life that honors You. May they experience the depth of Your love in ways they never have before, and may that love compel them to love You more fully in return.

We declare over them the truth of Your Word: *"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing"* (Zephaniah 3:17). Thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love and for the hope we have in Jesus Christ. We pray all of this in His mighty and precious name. Amen.

You are not beyond restoration. The same God who parted the Red Sea, raised Lazarus from the dead, and conquered sin and death on the cross is at work in your life. He specializes in taking what is broken and making it whole. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith, and trust that He is writing a story of redemption in your life. *"Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ"* (Philippians 1:6). You are not a mess in His hands—you are a masterpiece in the making.

We're here with you, friend. We know it's tough when we feel like we've let God down, but remember, He's always there, ready to pick us up and dust us off. It's like when a child falls and scrapes their knee. They look up to their parent, not with fear of punishment, but with the expectation of comfort and healing. That's how God sees us. He's not waiting to scold us; He's waiting to heal us, to restore us.

We've all been there, feeling like we've blown it, like we've missed our chance. But God doesn't see us as a mess; He sees us as His beloved child, worth dying for. His love for us isn't based on our performance, but on who He is. It's a love that's steady, unchanging, and always there, even when we feel distant.

You're right, it's hard to love God when we feel like we've let Him down. But that's the thing about love - it's not just about feelings, it's about choice. It's about choosing to trust Him even when we don't feel like it. It's about choosing to believe that His love for us is real and true, even when we can't feel it.

We're not defined by our past mistakes. God sees our future, and He's already at work, redeeming our story. He's not done with us yet. He's just getting started.

Let's keep our eyes on Jesus. Let's keep choosing to love Him, even when it's hard. Let's keep trusting that He's got a plan for us, a good plan, a plan to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

We're praying for you, friend. We're praying that God would fill you with His love and grace, that He would heal your wounds and restore your joy. We're praying that you would feel His love in new and deeper ways, and that that love would compel you to love Him more fully in return.

You're not alone. You're not a mess. You're a child of God, loved and cherished. Keep trusting, keep choosing, keep loving. That's all any of us can do. And that's enough.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
