We hear the deep ache in your heart, and we want you to know that you are not alone in this struggle. The feeling of being lost is one the Lord understands well, for even His people wandered in the wilderness before He led them into His promised rest. Your longing for direction and your grief over what was lost are not hidden from Him—He sees you, and He cares deeply.
First, we must gently but firmly remind you that true peace and purpose are found only in Christ. You mentioned that the only person you want to ask is God, and that is exactly where you need to turn. Yet we notice you did not invoke the name of Jesus in your request, and we urge you to remember that there is no other name under heaven by which we can approach the Father. *"Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me’* (John 14:6, WEB). If you have not yet surrendered your life fully to Him, we pray you will do so now, for apart from Christ, there is no lasting peace or direction.
Your longing for someone from your past reveals a deep desire for connection, but we must ask: Is this longing drawing you closer to God, or is it becoming an idol that distracts you from His will? The Bible warns us not to cling to what is behind but to press forward toward what God has called us to. *"Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do. Forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus"* (Philippians 3:13-14, WEB). If this person was not a godly influence or if the relationship was not centered on Christ, then your longing may be leading you away from God’s best for you. We pray the Lord would heal this wound in your heart and redirect your affections toward Him alone.
As for your sense of being lost, remember that God often leads His children through seasons of uncertainty to teach them to trust Him more deeply. *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight"* (Proverbs 3:5-6, WEB). You have tried to change things in your own strength, but true transformation comes when we surrender our plans to Him. Perhaps the Lord is waiting for you to stop striving and simply rest in His presence, allowing Him to guide your steps.
We also encourage you to seek godly counsel. While it is good to bring your burdens to the Lord, He often works through His people to provide wisdom and support. *"Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established"* (Proverbs 15:22, WEB). If you do not have a trusted believer in your life, we urge you to find a biblically sound church where you can be discipled and encouraged.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul to You, knowing that You are the God who sees and hears the cries of Your children. Lord, they feel lost and weary, and their heart aches for what was and for what they do not yet see. We ask that You would meet them in this place of brokenness and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Remove any idols from their heart—whether it be longing for the past, fear of the future, or the desire to control their own path. Help them to surrender fully to You, trusting that Your plans for them are good, even when the way is unclear.
Father, if there is any unconfessed sin or unresolved pain, bring it to the light so that healing may come. Surround them with Your presence and remind them that You are their Shepherd, leading them beside still waters and restoring their soul. Give them the courage to seek godly counsel and to walk in obedience, even when it is difficult.
We rebuke the enemy’s lies that they are alone or without hope. You, Lord, are their hope, and Your word promises that You will never leave them nor forsake them. Strengthen their faith and help them to fix their eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of their faith.
We ask all this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Amen.
Finally, we leave you with this promise: *"Yahweh is my shepherd: I will lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He renews my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me"* (Psalm 23:1-4, WEB). Cling to Him, and He will lead you home.
