I don't feel guilty for lust anymore

We have heard your honest cry and we want to sit with you in this struggle before the Lord together. To say there is no hope and that you no longer feel guilty for lust after three years grieves us, but we do not believe you are beyond hope, and we do not believe God has abandoned you. What you are describing is a hardened conscience, and Scripture warns us about this very thing. Ephesians 4:19 describes those who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness, and 1 Timothy 4:2 speaks of those branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron. When we continue in sin without repentance, our heart can become numb, not because the sin is no longer serious, but because we have stopped listening to the Holy Spirit. That numbness is not freedom, it is danger, and it is a call to urgently return to God while He is still calling you. We love you enough to tell you plainly that lust is sin. Jesus taught in Matthew 5:28 that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. And we are commanded in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. God created sexual desire to be fulfilled only within the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any indulgence outside of that, whether in the mind, with the eyes, or with the body, is sin that separates us from fellowship with Him.

Yet we also want to rebuke the lie that there is no hope. That is not the voice of God, it is the voice of the enemy who wants you to believe your sin is greater than God's grace. Romans 6:23 tells us the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. There is hope, but that hope is found in one name alone. We noticed your request did not mention Jesus Christ, and we must lovingly tell you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and can be forgiven and cleansed. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not yet truly turned from your sin and trusted in Jesus, we urge you to do so now. Romans 10:9 promises that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is His blood shed on the cross that pays for lust and every other sin, and it is His resurrection that gives us power to walk in newness of life. Without Him we cannot overcome, with Him all things are possible.

We want to pray together for you now for a softened heart, for godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and for deliverance.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear one to You. You see the three years of battle, the weariness, the shame, and now the frightening numbness where guilt no longer comes. Lord, we ask You to have mercy. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10. We ask You to restore a tender conscience and grant godly sorrow that produces repentance leading to salvation, which brings no regret. 2 Corinthians 7:10. Forgive the sin of lust, cleanse by the blood of Jesus, for Your Word says in 1 John 1:9 if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Break the chains of this habit, Lord. Show this dear one that there is a way of escape, for 1 Corinthians 10:13 says God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Teach them to walk by the Spirit so they will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16. Renew their mind so they are not conformed to this world, but transformed by the renewing of their mind. Romans 12:2. Restore hope where the enemy has spoken hopelessness, for Your mercies are new every morning and Your faithfulness is great. Lamentations 3:23. We pray for strength to flee, to cut off every source of temptation, to bring this struggle into the light with a trusted pastor or mature believer for accountability, and to fill the mind daily with Your Word. Let them know they are not forsaken and that Your grace is sufficient. We ask all this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We encourage you, do not remain in isolation. Bring this into the light with a godly man of God who can walk with you, and make radical practical choices to flee. Remove access to whatever feeds the lust, whether it is images, websites, entertainment, or fantasies. Replace it with Scripture memorization, prayer, and worship. When temptation comes, call on the name of Jesus immediately and run. You have not lost your chance. The very fact that you reached out shows God is still drawing you. Do not harden your heart any longer. Today, if you will hear His voice, turn to Jesus with full confession and ask Him to be your Lord and Savior and your Deliverer. He is able to forgive, to cleanse, and to restore your joy and your sensitivity to sin. There is hope, and His name is Jesus.

We've been thinking about what you shared, that after three years the guilt has faded and it feels like hope has gone with it. That numbness can be disorienting, and we want you to know you are not alone in feeling it.

When a struggle lasts this long, it's understandable that the feelings around it change. Not feeling guilty anymore doesn't mean you are unreachable or that God has stopped caring about you. Often it just means you are tired and have been carrying this by yourself for a long time. Isolation makes any persistent struggle heavier, and trying to fight it alone can leave you feeling stuck.

We have seen it help when someone decides not to stay isolated. One steady next step that many find doable is to invite one trusted, same-sex person to walk with you consistently, someone mature who will listen without shaming you and check in with you honestly each week. It also helps to honestly look at what keeps the pattern going and make a clear plan to remove those access points when you are thinking clearly, not in the moment of temptation. If you have a pastor or Christian counselor you trust, reaching out to them can give you extra support as well.

We care about you and we are praying for you.

Father, we lift this brother to You and ask You to show him Your nearness and kindness in this tired place. Give him courage to reach out, strength for each day, and hope that You are still at work in his life. Lead him to the right support and help him know he is not beyond Your mercy and grace. In Jesus' name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest confession that you no longer feel guilt, and that you fear there is no hope after three years of struggle, is itself a mercy, for it shows the Spirit has not left you alone. To feel hardness of heart and to mourn that hardness is already a beginning of repentance.

For a time you may have strangled your convictions and held down conscience and would not let it reprove you, and when conscience did speak you said, be quiet. Conscience, when it is unenlightened or long resisted, can be dulled, and there is never an omission of duty or a commission of fault that does not cast a stain upon it. Yet conscience itself is not the rule, Christ is. And the Lord who is exalted on high to give repentance and remission of sins gives not merely the remission but the repentance too. He gives it not only to those who seek it aright, but even to those who cannot repent of themselves.

Do not mistake what repentance is. It is not a few qualms of conscience because you dread judgment, nor a sheer hypocrisy which gives a rest of conscience that only lulls you to sleep to return to sin. And it is not a bitter despair which sears as with a hot iron and leads to hardness of heart. God deliver you from that false repentance. True repentance is the work of the Spirit in the renewed heart. It gives God glory, it makes a rainbow with tears of grief for sin and glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work.

You say, I cannot feel. Hear this for your comfort. If it is a cause of repentance to you that your heart is very hard and that you cannot repent, why you do repent. When you go down on your knees and say, Lord, I groan before thee because I cannot groan, I cannot feel, Lord help me to feel, why, you do feel, and you have got the repentance that you are asking for. At least you have got the first degree of it, you have got the mustard seed of repentance in tiny grain. Let it alone, it will grow. Foster it with prayer and it will become a tree. The very grace which you are asking of God is speaking in your very prayer.

Remember also that repentance is not a thing that happens only at the commencement of the spiritual life and is then done with. Repentance lives as long as faith lives. And faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance which saves is consistent with faith in Christ. It ejects sin as an evil tenant and admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart. It purges the soul from dead works and fills it with living works. It makes us avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for us. You must take heed not to put your repenting into the place of Christ, but to look out of self to Christ and to Christ only. If Christ is first, last, midst and everything to you, He will give you a sensitive conscience, He will give you the heart of flesh, He will give you the pure and cleansed life.

Our Lord has ordained that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name, and they are so joined together that wherever we find the one we are sure to find the other. Where there is no repentance there can be no remission, but where there is true repentance, that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, there is the full and free forgiveness of all sins. True repentance will yield works meet for repentance. It will be practical and it will last, not as a temporary pang but as a lasting turning.

Therefore do not conclude that three years have put you beyond hope. The Lord has spared you, and these spared moments are not to be spoiled by more misdemeanors but given up to repentance and to prayer. Will you now, before sin sets in everlasting darkness, look to Him. Turn from lust, which belongs only within the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman in marriage, and flee from it as from a consuming fire. Bring it into the light, confess it plainly to God, ask Him for that gift of repentance which you cannot work in yourself, and trust alone in the blood and righteousness of Christ for pardon.

I will pray that God will lead you to true repentance unto life, that He will sprinkle your heart from an evil conscience, that He will keep you through this temporary state in Jesus, and that you will find that faith in Christ which saves and the repentance He asks of you, which looks to Him and gives Him all glory.
