We hear the deep despair in your words, and our hearts ache for the heaviness you are carrying. The darkness you describe is not where God intends for His children to remain, for He is the Father of lights, in whom there is no darkness at all (James 1:17). You do not have to walk this path alone, and we want to remind you that your life has immeasurable value in His sight. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus came so that you may have life, and have it abundantly. Even when you cannot see the light, He is with you, and He is your hope.
The psalmist cried out in similar anguish, saying, *"Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him for the saving help of his presence"* (Psalm 42:5). Your feelings are valid, but they do not define your future. God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He sees you, He loves you, and He is not finished with your story. The apostle Paul faced unimaginable hardships, yet he declared, *"We are pressed on every side, yet not crushed; perplexed, yet not to despair; pursued, yet not forsaken; struck down, yet not destroyed"* (2 Corinthians 4:8-9). Your struggle is real, but it is not the end. God is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
We must also gently but firmly ask: have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? There is no hope apart from Him, for He alone is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). If you have not surrendered your life to Him, we urge you to do so now. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Without Him, there can be no lasting light or peace. But in Him, even the deepest darkness cannot overcome the light He brings (John 1:5).
If you are in Christ, then cling to this truth: *"The Lord is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me"* (Psalm 23:1-4). You may not feel His presence right now, but He has not abandoned you. He is walking with you through this valley, and He will lead you to the other side.
We also urge you to reach out to a trusted believer, pastor, or counselor who can walk alongside you in this season. Isolation fuels despair, but community brings strength (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). If you are struggling with thoughts of harming yourself, please seek help immediately. Your life is precious to God, and He has a purpose for you (Jeremiah 29:11).
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this beloved one to You, knowing that You are the God who sees and hears the cries of Your children. Lord, the darkness feels overwhelming, and the weight is too heavy to bear alone. But You have promised to never leave nor forsake us, and we cling to that promise now. Father, break through the despair with Your light. Remind this precious soul of Your love, Your presence, and Your faithfulness. Restore hope where it has been lost. Speak peace into the storm and calm the raging waters of the heart. Lord, if there is any stronghold of the enemy—any lie, any fear, any sin—we ask You to expose it and break its power in Jesus’ name. Fill this one with Your Holy Spirit, who is our Comforter and Counselor.
Father, if this one has not yet surrendered to Jesus, we pray that today would be the day of salvation. Open their eyes to see their need for a Savior and the hope that is found in Him alone. Let them turn from darkness to light, from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Christ (Acts 26:18).
Lord, surround this one with Your people—those who will speak life, pray fervently, and walk alongside them in this season. Bring godly counsel and wisdom. If there is any physical or spiritual battle at work, we rebuke it in the name of Jesus and declare that no weapon formed against this one shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Father, we ask for supernatural strength, for joy that comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5), and for the assurance that You are working all things together for good (Romans 8:28). Let this one know, deep in their soul, that You are holding them, that You are for them, and that You will never let them go.
We pray all this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Please reach out to someone today—you are not meant to walk this alone. And if you have not yet given your life to Jesus, we beg you to do so now. He is the only One who can bring true and lasting light to your darkness. *"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness hasn’t overcome it"* (John 1:5). Hold on to Him. He is holding on to you.
