I commit lust every single day.

Your honesty before the Lord is a good and necessary step, and I thank you for sharing it so openly. The struggle you describe, the daily battle with lustful looks and thoughts, the sense of guilt afterward, and the desire to keep praying for others even when motivation feels low, are all things many believers face. The fact that you are turning to Jesus before and after the urge comes, that you are opening the Bible to fight it, and that you have a desire to gather with other believers, shows that God is at work in your heart.

It helps to understand what temptation is. Temptation itself is not sin. Even Jesus was tempted, and every person faces temptation. Scripture says temptation is common to all people. The sin comes when desire is allowed to conceive and we choose to yield to it. In each temptation there is a decision, whether to walk according to the flesh or to walk according to the Spirit. When you feel that urge and you look with lust, that is the moment the flesh is being followed. Feeling terrible afterward is the Spirit convicting you, and that conviction is meant to drive you back to the Lord, not away from Him.

The Bible describes the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life as belonging to the world, not to God, and friendship with the world is enmity with God. We live in a time when sexual images and enticements are placed before us constantly through media and entertainment, and our eyes and flesh are overstimulated. That does not excuse the sin, but it means you must be wise and watchful. Prayer alone, without practical steps, is not enough. Prayer should lead to action. Just as a person who prays for protection also sets a guard, you are called to pray and then to act with prudence. That means turning your eyes away the moment a lustful thought begins, removing sources of temptation where you can, memorizing Scripture to renew your mind, and walking in the Spirit rather than feeding the flesh.

You also mentioned wanting more motivation to pray for others and to be free from lust. This is where motivation in prayer matters. Scripture says we sometimes ask and do not receive because we ask with wrong motives, wanting to consume it on our own desires. God does not intend prayer to be a way to get our own will done on earth. True prayer begins with God and His will and opens the door for Him to do in us and through us what He has wanted to do all along, without violating our will. The wisest prayer you can pray is, Lord, work out Your perfect will in my life, have Your way in me. That includes praying for others. You do not need a long or eloquent prayer for it to be real. Every prayer recorded in the Bible is short. God is not impressed by length or amount of time on your knees. Your Father knows what you need before you ask. What He desires is a sincere heart. Even a brief cry in your mind or heart, a simple asking for guidance or help in the moment of temptation, is prayer. Often it is in those quiet moments that the Spirit ministers assurance and comfort to your heart.

So keep the focus of your prayers on worship and surrender. Begin with awe for who God is and a desire for His kingdom and His will to be done in you. Then bring your specific needs honestly. Ask Him to cleanse your heart, to give you strength to walk in the Spirit, to help you love purity, and to give you a genuine love for others so you will intercede for them fervently. The fervent prayer of a righteous person is powerful because it comes from the heart and aligns with God. Righteousness comes only through Jesus, not your own effort. When you confess your sin to Him, He is faithful to forgive because of the cross.

Practically, continue to come to Jesus immediately when the urge comes, as you have been doing, but add a decisive turn. Do not linger on the image or thought. Look away, move away, quote a verse you have memorized, and ask the Lord to fill your mind with what is pure. Difficulties like this often drive us to our knees, and like David in Psalm 143 who cried out for God to hear his supplication in faithfulness and righteousness, you can cry out for mercy and not for judgment, asking God to teach you to do His will.

I am praying for you, that God will give you a renewed desire to seek His will above your own, that He will give you power to walk in the Spirit and to turn from lustful looking, that He will fill you with His peace when you feel condemned, and that He will stir your heart again to pray for others with love and faithfulness. He hears sincere prayer and He answers, sometimes by saying no to what would harm us and yes to what will make us more like Christ. Keep coming to Him, keep taking practical steps to guard your eyes and heart, and keep gathering with believers for encouragement. God is able to give you patience and strength as you wait on Him and trust Him day by day.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer.

We have been continuing to lift you up these past few days, specifically for your daily battle with lust and for a renewed motivation to pray for others here. We thank God for your honest and humble heart. You shared that you have been looking at women lustfully in public and that you feel terrible because of it, even while you have been thinking of Jesus throughout the day and turning to Him and to His Word when the urge comes. We praise God that you came to Him before and after the temptation and that you tried to read the Bible to resist it, and that you were looking forward to going to Church.

We want you to know that God sees your struggle and your desire to be pure and to serve others in prayer, and He is faithful to forgive and to help you overcome. The Bible tells us to walk by the Spirit and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh in Gal 5:16, and that if we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9. We have been praying that the Lord will give you strength to flee from temptation as we are told in 2 Tim 2:22, to fix your eyes on Jesus, to renew your mind through His Word, and to restore your motivation and joy in lifting up others in prayer.

If your request was answered and you have experienced victory over lust or a renewed burden to pray for people here, please post a praise report and let us all know so we can rejoice with you. If your request does not seem to have been answered and you are still fighting this battle every day, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. We want to keep standing with you for as long as it takes.

We pray together now for you in Jesus Name. Father, we lift our brother to You and ask You to cleanse his heart and mind and give him power over lust through Your Holy Spirit. Help him to turn his eyes away from temptation and to set his mind on things above. Forgive him and fill him with Your peace where there has been guilt, and rekindle in him a passion to seek You and to intercede for others. Draw him closer to You as he continues to seek You in Your Word and in fellowship at Church. May God bless you as you continue to seek Him through His Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
