I can’t stop masturbating

Alaongire

Disciple of Prayer
I need God’s help in stopping masturbating. I get triggered by sexual content I see in media and or whenever I try to write a love scene in my writing. Please give me forgiveness and sexual healing.

We hear your cry for help and stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your burden to the Lord who is faithful to forgive and heal. The struggle you describe is one many face in this fallen world, where temptation lurks in every corner—especially in media and entertainment that stirs up lustful thoughts. But take heart, for Scripture assures us, *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB).

First, we must address the root of this battle: masturbation, when accompanied by lustful thoughts or fantasies, is a form of sexual immorality—what the Bible calls *fornication of the heart* (Matthew 5:28). It distorts God’s holy design for sexuality, which is reserved solely for the marriage covenant between a man and a woman. Jesus warned, *"For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies"* (Matthew 15:19 WEB). The desires of the flesh war against the Spirit, and we must crucify them daily (Galatians 5:17, 24).

You mentioned being triggered by sexual content in media and even in your writing. Beloved, we must guard our eyes and minds diligently. Job declared, *"I have made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman?"* (Job 31:1 WEB). If certain media, books, or even creative projects lead you into sin, you must flee from them. *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body"* (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB). This may mean setting strict boundaries—perhaps avoiding certain shows, genres, or even stepping back from writing love scenes until you have greater mastery over your thoughts.

But victory is not found in willpower alone. You need the power of the Holy Spirit and the renewing of your mind. Begin by confessing this sin to the Lord, for *"if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"* (1 John 1:9 WEB). Then, replace the lies of the enemy with God’s truth. Meditate on Scripture that affirms your identity in Christ: *"But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellence of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light"* (1 Peter 2:9 WEB). You are not a slave to sin—you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Practical steps will also help. Accountability is crucial—find a trusted, mature Christian brother to confess this struggle to and pray with regularly. *"Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective"* (James 5:16 WEB). Fast from media that tempts you, and fill that time with prayer, worship, and Scripture. When lustful thoughts arise, redirect your mind immediately—*"Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report: if there is any virtue and if there is any praise, think about these things"* (Philippians 4:8 WEB).

We also encourage you to examine your heart: Are you seeking fulfillment in temporary pleasures rather than in Christ? Lust is often a counterfeit for intimacy, but true satisfaction is found only in Him. *"You will show me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore"* (Psalm 16:11 WEB). Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother, who is crying out for deliverance from this stronghold of lust and masturbation. Lord, You see his heart—his desire to honor You with his body and mind. We ask that You would break every chain of bondage in his life. Cleanse him by the blood of Jesus, and create in him a clean heart, O God (Psalm 51:10). Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, that he may walk in purity and self-control.

Father, we rebuke every spirit of lust and perversion that has gained a foothold in his life. We declare that he is not a slave to sin but a son of God, called to holiness. Strengthen him to flee temptation and to stand firm in Your truth. Renew his mind with Your Word, and help him to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Lord, we ask that You would heal any wounds or emptiness that may be driving him to seek comfort in sin. Fill him with Your love, peace, and joy. Surround him with godly accountability and fellowship. If it is Your will, prepare a godly spouse for him—a woman who loves You and will walk with him in purity and righteousness.

We thank You, Father, that victory is already won through Jesus Christ. We declare that our brother will walk in freedom, not by his own strength, but by the power of Your Spirit. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Beloved, do not lose heart. The road to freedom may be difficult, but it is not impossible. Every time you resist temptation, you grow stronger in Christ. Every time you choose purity, you honor God and store up treasure in heaven. Remember, *"He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ"* (Philippians 1:6 WEB). Keep pressing into Him, and He will lead you into victory.

We're here with you, brother, and we believe in your ability to overcome this struggle. It's true that the world we live in is filled with temptations, but remember, God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can handle (1 Corinthians 10:13). Let's tackle this together.

First, we need to address the root of the issue - masturbation accompanied by lustful thoughts. It's important to understand that this is a form of sexual immorality, and it's not God's design for our lives. We must confess this sin to the Lord and ask for His forgiveness. He is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Next, we need to guard our eyes and minds. If certain media, books, or even creative projects lead you into sin, you must flee from them. This might mean setting strict boundaries, avoiding certain shows, genres, or even stepping back from writing love scenes until you have greater mastery over your thoughts. Remember, we must not look lustfully at anyone (Job 31:1).

But victory is not found in willpower alone. We need the power of the Holy Spirit and the renewing of our minds. Confess this sin to the Lord, and then replace the lies of the enemy with God's truth. Meditate on Scripture that affirms your identity in Christ. You are not a slave to sin; you are a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).

We also encourage you to find a trusted, mature Christian brother to confess this struggle to and pray with regularly. Accountability is crucial. Fast from media that tempts you and fill that time with prayer, worship, and Scripture. When lustful thoughts arise, redirect your mind immediately.

Lastly, examine your heart. Are you seeking fulfillment in temporary pleasures rather than in Christ? True satisfaction is found only in Him. Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you (James 4:8).

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
