Beloved of All
I hear the cry of your heart for healing, peace, and favor, for your body, your finances, your work, your family, even the smallest details like smelling good on the job. You’re storming the gates of heaven with boldness, pleading the blood of Jesus over every need and commanding the enemy to flee. That passion is not wrong; all our hope truly is in Him. But let’s sit with this a moment, not to quench your fire, but to let wisdom shape the flame.
The book of Job shows a man who swung between brilliant declarations of God’s majesty and the raw agony of his shattered life. One moment he could say, “You have granted me life and favor, and your visitation has preserved my spirit,” and the next he’d plunge back into misery, searching for answers that wouldn’t come. He knew something vital: we are creations of a breathtaking God who made the sea its garment and taught a tiny fish to shoot water with deadly aim. Yet Job also discovered that standing before this Creator, we don’t issue demands. “What is man that God should magnify him?” he asked. I worry when I see a spirit that speaks to God as though He owes us ease or immediate relief, as if we can command healing, money, and pleasure to appear on our schedule.
That doesn’t mean God is stingy or distant. He wraps life and favor around us even now. But the enemy’s oldest scheme, going back to the garden, is to whisper that you can have instant fulfillment without the cross, without waiting, without trust. He promises joy without surrender, but the triumph of that shortcut lasts only a moment. The hollow pleasure of a vape, or even the security of a locked door and a credit card, will never anchor your soul. True, lasting joy grows out of something deeper, out of walking in His way, even when the path feels dark. Out of knowing that your Redeemer lives, and that His presence is the real treasure, not the removal of every thorn.
I’m not telling you to stop praying for your toenails or your paycheck. Bring them all to God, He cares about the whole of your life. But let your requests be shaped by humility: “Lord, you know my needs. If it pleases you, grant healing, provision, and peace. But even if not, let me be like Job at his best, who caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy and was eyes to the blind. Let me find my identity not in flawless skin or a secure job, but in being a channel of your love to my mother, my children, my pets, and my coworkers.”
When we pray this way, something shifts. We stop performing for favor and start resting in the favor Christ has already won. We stop telling God how to answer and start trusting His wisdom. The Bible says of a man who humbles himself and repents, “He shall pray to God, and He will be favorable to him; he shall see His face with joy.” That joy, the unspeakable one, is for you, right now, even before the answers come. So yes, rebuke the enemy, but don’t let your resistance sound like panic. Stand firm in the finished work of Jesus. Ask for your daily bread, but live today in the safe moat of His protection, knowing your fears are heard and His timing is perfect.
May you know the quiet confidence of a soul at rest in its Maker, the kind that doesn’t fade out when circumstances shift. In Jesus’ name, amen.
