I apperently hurt one of my best friends

I apperently hurt one of my best friends feelings without realizing it! I still don't think he should have been hurt but he was! I appologized but then he said something extremely hurtful back to me! Now I'm really sad and hurt! I pray that he feels bad for what he said and will apologize and that we will go back to being as close friends as we were before this all happened!
