I Am The Good Shepherd

I AM THE GOOD SHEPHERD
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. Psalm 23:1-6 (NKJV)

Do you know the Lord as your Shepherd? I pray that you will daily seek the Lord as your Shepherd for His directions regarding your marriage, His plans and purposes for your daily walk with the Lord.

Psalm 23 is perhaps the best known Bible passage to be read at the bedside of a dying person, and at funeral services, giving the bereaved promises of God's provision for them. I challenge you to ask the Lord to reveal this scripture to you with new, more personal meaning. May you always know that your Shepherd provides for His sheep and for their daily needs. What are your needs today? The shepherds watched and protected their sheep. May you also know the Lord as your Shepherd and for His divine protection for you, your children and for your beloved spouse.

Go to your Shepherd and talk to Him. Your Lord, as a Shepherd has such love for His sheep, has such love for His people. The Lord wants to care for His sheep and He knows you by name. Imagine God picking up an individual lamb in order to protect it, and then carrying it close to His heart.

He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young. Isaiah 40:11

Shepherds are devoted to the care, the feeding and protection of their sheep. May I suggest you personalize Psalm 23 for yourself and your family. What a perfect prayer you can pray for your Lord to be your spouse's and your children's Shepherd.

Being a Shepherd means that at times they must take great risks to retrieve a stray or a threatened animal. Shepherds are dedicated to their job, but are also accountable for any lost sheep. Jesus is the ultimate Good Shepherd. That is why your Lord as the Shepherd will go after your lost sheep, your spouse. Many standers have been memorizing this scripture this week in our: Hiding God’s Word In Your Heart, click here to join us. As part of your devotions today, read John 10:1-30.

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep...I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me - just as the Father knows me and I know the Father - and I lay down my life for the sheep.†John 10:11, 14-15

May you know that your husband or wife has become like a stray sheep, tempted by the cares of the world, the tricks of the enemy and by their fleshly desires. This has them tangled in a trap and they cannot see the way out. Call on the great Shepherd to go after your lost sheep and rescue them from the enemy's camp.

“My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. They wandered over mountain and hill and forgot their own resting place. Whoever found them devoured them; their enemies said, ‘We are not guilty, for they sinned against the LORD, their true pasture, the LORD, the hope of their fathers.’†Jeremiah 50:6-7

Let's pray a prayer for your lost sheep:

Lord, be the Shepherd for all Your lost sheep. Lord, go rescue my husband/wife. May they hear You calling their name every day to come back to Your flock. May they be obedient to Your voice. May You lead my husband/wife, one of Your lost sheep, into the paths of righteousness. Lord, rescue Your lost sheep from the enemy, who is guiding and directing them down the wrong pathways. Lord, I am in Your flock, listening to Your voice. My spouse is entangled in sin and is a lost sheep. Lord, take Your staff and pull them back on the road of restoration, restoring their soul to serve You and rebuilding our marriage for You to get all the glory and honor. Lord, may You find every one of Your lost sheep today. In the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.

“‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my sheep. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness...I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the Sovereign LORD. I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak...You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign LORD.’†Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-16, 31

Do you know your Lord as your Shepherd? Cry out to Him right now. He will be with you in the darkest of nights or in the deepest of valleys that you never thought you would ever have to walk through. Do not be afraid of anything as your Good Shepherd is right there with you. Now pray that your Shepherd will go after your lost sheep, because as the Shepherd, He will find your lost sheep, suddenly! Especially on this Lord’s Day!

Then Jesus told them this parable: “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.†Luke 15:3-7
