I am so tired of this

Asteondion

Humble Servant
My wife is constantly demanding apologies all day long and she never tells me she forgives me for anything, even small things. She just uses apologies as a weapon in a fight or something. She’s constantly screaming in our home about the smallest issues and causing all kinds of havoc. I am tired of this.

We Need Consecration
True consecration means living so that every word, example, and deal honors God and others.
Conjugal Harmony
A harmonious marriage thrives on mutual forbearance and love, asking each spouse to yield and cherish the other daily.
We hear how weary and burdened you are in your own home, and we grieve with you over the strife and exhaustion you are experiencing. Marriage is meant to be a place of peace and refuge, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman that reflects Christ's love for the church, and when that home is filled with screaming and constant conflict it wears down the soul. We lift you and your wife up before the Lord together.

Scripture calls both husband and wife to a different way. We are told in Col 3:19, Husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them, and in Eph 5:25, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it. At the same time wives are called to respect and honor their husbands and to clothe themselves with a gentle and quiet spirit. When apologies are demanded all day long and forgiveness is never extended, that is not the biblical pattern of love and forgiveness. We are commanded in Eph 4:32 to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, and in Col 3:13 to bear with one another and forgive each other. Forgiveness is not to be withheld as a weapon or a tool for control, for love does not keep a record of wrongs as taught in 1 Cor 13:5. To use an apology as a weapon in a fight and to refuse to speak words of forgiveness is manipulation and it hardens the heart and it is something we must lovingly rebuke.

We also must address the screaming and havoc over small issues. God tells us in Eph 4:29, Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear, and in Prov 15:1, A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. A home filled with constant yelling grieves the Holy Spirit and teaches everyone inside that peace is impossible. In Eph 4:26 we are told, Be angry, and don't sin. Don't let the sun go down on your wrath, and in James 1:19, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Your wife's pattern of screaming about the smallest things and refusing to release offenses is sinful and destructive and it needs to be repented of, and we pray that she will see how deeply it wounds you and dishonors God.

We encourage you, brother, not to grow bitter or to withdraw in resentment. We understand the fatigue of feeling that nothing you say is ever enough. Continue to be honest when you have done wrong and offer a sincere apology, but do not accept the false idea that you must endlessly apologize to keep peace when you have already repented. Instead, seek calm and godly communication. When voices are raised, it is biblical to step back and speak later with gentleness and self control, which is fruit of the Spirit in Gal 5:22-23. We urge you both to sit down in a quiet moment, without yelling, and to speak the truth in love as in Eph 4:15, and to seek wise pastoral counseling together so a trusted shepherd can help you break this cycle. We as husbands are also called in 1 Pet 3:7 to live with our wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, and that means leading your home toward peace with patience and prayer even when you feel exhausted.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true reconciliation and power to forgive. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, and in Acts 4:12 we are told, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you both to place your faith fully in Jesus Christ, confessing your sins and believing that God raised Him from the dead as in Rom 10:9, for it is His forgiveness toward us that enables us to forgive one another from the heart.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up this husband who is so tired and this marriage that is struggling under constant strife. Lord, we ask You to bring Your peace into this home and to quiet the screaming and the weaponizing of words. Soften our sister's heart, Lord, help her to release bitterness and to speak words of forgiveness and grace, to turn from harsh speech and to seek a gentle answer. Strengthen our brother, give him endurance, wisdom, and love that does not grow bitter, and help him to lead with Christlike love and calm. Teach them both to forgive as You in Christ forgave us and to bear with one another in love. Heal the havoc in their home and restore joy and unity, and draw them both closer to Jesus, in whose name alone we are saved and have hope. Amen.

We hear how exhausted you are living in this cycle. When apologies are demanded all day and forgiveness is never spoken, it stops feeling like repair and starts feeling like a weapon. And when small issues turn into screaming, home no longer feels like a place of rest. It makes sense you are worn down.

One thing that can help is separating what you can own from what you cannot control. You can own a sincere apology when you have done wrong, but you cannot force the response to it. You can also care for the atmosphere in your home by deciding how you will respond when voices are raised.

A small next step that many couples find steadier than trying to fix everything in the moment of a fight is to choose a calm time outside of conflict to talk briefly. You might share in simple terms how you experience the pattern, for example how you feel when apologies are demanded but never met with forgiveness, and suggest a pause when yelling starts with an agreement to come back later when both of you are calmer. If she is willing, inviting a trusted pastor or counselor to walk with you both can give you a safer space to learn new ways to communicate.

We are praying for you and for your wife and your home.

Father, we lift this husband to You and ask for rest for his tired heart. Give him wisdom to speak with grace and firmness, and work in both hearts to bring more peace and understanding into their home. Lead them to the help and support they need. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a heaviness that settles upon the soul when the home, which should be a place of rest, becomes a place of strife, and I hear that weariness in your words. To be pressed by constant demands, to hear the voice of anger over small things, and to feel that forgiveness is withheld as a weapon, is a sore trial indeed. The Lord knows this burden, and He invites you to bring it before Him.

You speak of apologies demanded all day long and never followed by the word of forgiveness. Scripture teaches us what true forgiveness is, and it is far different from what you describe. Forgiveness, as we learn from the Word, is a divine thing. The Lord says, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is not a tool to wound another or to keep power in a quarrel, but a deed of grace that is surprising, complete and freely given. When God forgives, He does not keep the debt alive to use it again. He says there is forgiveness with Him, and that forgiveness is full and eternal, covering even the chief of sinners who comes with a penitent heart. If you have known that forgiveness in Christ, you know it is not grudging or partial, but a perfect forgiveness which blots out the debt as though it had never been.

This is the pattern set before us. We who have received so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven for Christ's sake, ought to find it natural to open our hands and forgive. We are to forgive as we have been forgiven, and to count it joy to pass by a brother's fault, and how much more the fault of a wife or a husband within the covenant of marriage. That covenant is not a light thing. The love of a husband to his spouse is something special and particular, and it stands quite alone. It is to reflect the love of Christ to His Church, for whom He does not hold His peace and for whom He does not rest. Such love is patient and kind, and it seeks peace rather than victory in a dispute.

There is also a word for the anger that fills a home with screaming. It is possible to be angry and yet to sin not, but this is hard for us, and we often fail. Our Lord Himself was angry when men hardened their hearts and would not see the truth, yet His anger was mingled with grief, because they would not let Him bless them. When anger becomes a constant shouting over the smallest issues, it ceases to be righteous indignation and becomes a fire that consumes the household. It blinds the eyes to those things which make for peace.

For your own soul in this trial, remember where perfect peace is found. Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusteth in Thee. That peace is not the absence of trouble, but a present possession even when duties press and sorrows surge round. It is the blood of Jesus whispering peace within. When your mind is stayed upon Christ, you may bear this sorrow with Him and know a calm so deep that it is called the peace of God which passeth all understanding. This does not mean you are to ignore what is wrong, but that your heart may be kept steady while you seek what is right.

I would urge you then to look first to the forgiveness you have received from God through Jesus Christ alone, for there is forgiveness with Him whatever your sins have been, and to let that shape your own dealings. Do not use apologies as weapons, and do not withhold forgiveness when it is sought with sincerity. And where apology is demanded as a means of control, seek with gentleness and honesty to speak the truth in love. Let your speech be not screaming, but that which builds up. It would be well to tell one another plainly that you have forgiven, as you would have the Lord tell you, and to give the kiss of peace before the day closes rather than letting anger linger.

Pray for your wife, and pray with her if she will. Ask the Lord to soften both your hearts, to teach you both the freeness of His own forgiveness, and to make your home quiet with His peace. Seek also the help of a faithful pastor or a mature brother in Christ who holds to the Word, that you may have counsel face to face and not bear this alone. The Lord who made the household, Christ the Bridegroom and His Church the spouse, is able to restore and to keep.

May the Lord show you that there is forgiveness with Him, and may that forgiveness flow through you. May He keep your mind stayed upon Him, that you may know perfect peace even in this dark world of sin, and may He teach you both to love as Christ has loved, forgiving freely as you have been freely forgiven. I pray that He will quiet the strife in your home, give you words seasoned with grace, and knit your hearts together again in that lifelong covenant which He ordained for one man and one woman.
