Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We hear your cry and we grieve with you over this struggle, and we thank you for your honesty in bringing this into the light. What you are describing is a very real spiritual battle and we want you to know that the fact you miss Jesus and are distressed by the loss of guilt is itself evidence that God is still drawing you and the Holy Spirit has not left you. At the same time we must speak truth to you with love because this is a dangerous place to remain.

The Word tells us to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Cor 6:18. Lust is not a small failing, it is fornication of the heart and it grieves God, defiles our bodies which are temples of the Holy Spirit, and it is meant to be reserved only for the covenant of marriage between a man and a woman. When we continue in it we harden our own hearts. That is why you no longer feel guilt as you once did. Scripture warns us to exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called today, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin Heb 3:13. A seared conscience does not mean you are beyond forgiveness, but it is a solemn warning that we must repent quickly and not trifle with sin.

We also hear your weariness and depression and loss of motivation. Sin promises pleasure but it always takes more than it gives and leaves us tired and empty and distant from God. Jesus himself invites us when we are in this place, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matt 11:28. He has not moved away from you, but sin has built a wall, and that wall must be torn down through confession and repentance.

We rejoice that you are reading the Bible daily, please do not stop. But reading must be joined with obedience and repentance or we deceive ourselves. But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves James 1:22. Each person is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin, and the sin, when it is full grown, produces death James 1:14-15. The way to victory is not to try to manage lust but to flee it completely, to make no provision for the flesh, to cut off the sources, the images, the idle time, the private access that feeds it, and to walk by the Spirit.

We want to encourage you to take decisive steps today. Confess this sin fully to God without excuse, for if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. Ask Him to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you Psalm 51:10. Bring this into the light with a trusted mature Christian believer of the same sex who can hold you accountable and pray with you regularly, for confession and accountability break the power of secret sin. Flee temptation rather than fighting it up close, and fill that space with prayer, with the Word, with worship and with fellowship. And submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you James 4:7.

We are praying together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we can be saved and have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up this dear one who is weary and depressed and feels distant from You. Lord, have mercy and forgive the sin of lust and every act of fornication in thought and deed. Wash this heart clean by the blood of Jesus. Soften what has become hardened, restore a tender conscience and godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him. Break the chains of lust and set him free to walk in purity and in the Spirit. Lift the heaviness of depression and tiredness and give rest to his soul, and restore to him the joy of Your salvation. Give him strength to flee temptation, to remove every stumbling block, and to find faithful brothers or sisters to walk with him in accountability. Help him not only to hear Your Word daily but to obey it, and to remember that Your grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and to live soberly and righteously in this present age. Fill him again with hunger for Jesus and with hope that You who began a good work will be faithful to complete it. We ask all of this in the mighty and merciful name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We urge you to not remain alone in this. Keep seeking Jesus, keep confessing quickly when you fall, and trust that His forgiveness and cleansing are real. He is faithful even when we are weak, and He will restore the joy you miss if you turn to Him with your whole heart.

Thank you for being this honest with us. We hear how tired and discouraged you feel, and also how much you miss closeness with Jesus. That very ache to be near Him again matters, even when the feelings of guilt have gone numb.

What you described is so common when someone has been fighting the same struggle for a long time. Reading your Bible daily is a faithful rhythm, and we are glad you are keeping it, but change rarely comes from trying harder in the moment. It is more like training over time, small steady steps where God forms our hearts and habits. Feeling flat or unmotivated does not mean He has left you, it often means you are weary from carrying this alone and need support and rest as well as prayer.

If it would help, we encourage you to invite one trusted person in this week, a pastor or mature believer you respect, to know what you are facing and to pray with you regularly. Not for shame, but so you are not battling in isolation. Keep bringing honest, brief prayers to God throughout the day, especially when temptation is strong, simply turning back toward Him.

If that low mood and exhaustion continue, please also talk with your doctor or a counselor alongside prayer.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Thank You that You see his heart and his desire to walk with You. Give him renewed hope, strength to turn toward You again, and trusted people to walk beside him. Restore his joy in Jesus and guide him day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a hopeful sign that you can still say you miss Jesus, for that very missing proves that the Spirit has not left you to hardness of heart. The depression and weariness you feel, and even the numbness where guilt once stung, are not strange to the children of God when sin has been indulged. Guile becomes abundant when guilt is not confessed, and a man must put a fearful strain upon his conscience to hush its protests. Do not think that because you do not feel guilty you are not guilty. The guilt remains until it is washed away, and the loss of feeling is itself a reason to fly more swiftly to Christ.

You ask for prayer because you have fallen into lust and find yourself reading the Scriptures daily yet falling again, tired and without motivation. Hear this truth for your comfort. The work of the Spirit is linked with the work of the Son. When the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile. Forgiveness and a change of nature go together. You are not to seek to make yourself better in your own strength and then come to Christ. Repentance and remission are to be preached in His name, and repentance itself is the gift of God. You are to ask Him for it as you ask for pardon, for where there is true repentance there is full and free forgiveness, and where Christ is trusted the heart is purged from dead works.

Do not mistake what true repentance is. It is not a mere trembling under terror, nor a carnal sorrow that passes when the storm is over. True repentance gives God glory. It says, Lord, I have no claim upon You, I have no right but the right to be punished, yet I appeal to Your mercy for Your dear Son's sake. It is a repentance that makes you weep and abhor your past life because of the love of Christ which has pardoned it, and it makes you avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for you. It looks out of self to Christ and to Christ only. Such repentance yields works meet for repentance and it lasts. It is not a thing done once at the beginning and then ended. Repentance lives as long as faith. Sweet sister Repentance is to be our companion all the way to the gates of pearl, cultivating heart searching and practicing daily repentance, continually desiring a lowly estimate of ourselves because self abhorrence endears Christ to us as the great Savior of unworthy ones.

You fear because your sense of guilt has faded. Know that the repentance which saves the soul is not at first a full and complete view of the guilt of sin. As experience strengthens judgment and enlightens the heart, the true estimate of sin will daily increase. The truest repentance is often that of a man just entering Heaven. Therefore do not wait until you feel enough sorrow to qualify yourself for faith. Come now, just as you are, altogether a sinner, and confess all your guilt and heartily humble yourself in the sight of God. There can be no cleansing, no washing, no blotting out of guilt till there is a fair and square acknowledgment of it. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

The Lord does not drive you to repentance as a slave is driven with the whip. The goodness of God leads you to repentance. It draws you. Think of His goodness to you even now, that you are still spared, still able to read His Word, still made to long for Jesus. Let that goodness melt you. Set your sin in the light of His marvelous goodness and of the holy and glorious Being against whom it is committed, and you will feel a burning indignation against it.

So I pray for you now, and ask you to pray thus with me. Ask Him for His mercy's sake to pass over your guilt. Plead with Him for His dear Son's sake to blot it out. Ask Him to give you that godly sorrow which needs not to be repented of, a repentance unto life which preserves you through this temporary state in Jesus. Ask Him to take away guile as well as guilt, to make you hate the lust which so wearies you, to keep your reading of the Word from being a mere duty and to make it a meeting with Christ Himself, and to restore to you the joy of His salvation. He will yield to such pleading, for He delights to deal with sinners in the way of mercy.

Continue to look to Christ alone to save you, and to the repentance He asks of you, which is to turn from this sin as an evil tenant and to admit Christ to be the sole master of the heart. Flee from every provision for lust, make no place for it, and seek the help of a faithful pastor or brother in Christ to walk with you and hold you accountable. You are tired, but Jesus gives rest to the weary. Come to Him anew today, confessing, believing, and trusting the matchless Atonement which covers all your guilt, and you shall be among the blessed.
